I don't write that often and I'm unsure whether a similar thread has been open or if this is even the right place to open it but I just wanted to see if anyone else has a player who, no matter what team you move to, must be part of your team?

Well, personally, that special player is Keita Balde Diao from Lazio. This is mainly because of his huge potential in real life and the fact that, as a Lazio fan, I want him to succeed. The affection which I have for him often leads me to preferring him to other players who may be more experienced or in better form. His attributes are not exceptional at the beginning (he is very underrated in the game, despite the fact that he is only 18) but if he is afforded a lot of playing time he can become a star player like he has in my case. I'm often influenced by real life and because he is one of our (Lazio's) best players at the moment I wanted him to reach that same level in the game. After 3 and half years at Lazio I resigned (too frustrating xD) and 6 months later moved to AS Monaco where I spent ?27M to make Keita mine once again. I also bought Berardi for a surprising low ?4.8M but as the season progressed the latter saw the pitch less often due to competition with Falcao, Volland and Keita. As Keita is my special player I found myself often moving Volland to LM to give Keita a first team place regardless of his form. I'll post some screens of his present attributes later, if the thread does okay xD

Basically, what I'm asking you is: Is there any player in the game which you must have in your squad, which you often prefer to other players in better form as a result of you 'putting your money on' him to succeed? If so, give a bried description of this player and what makes him that special player for you and hopefully some screens of his development. I look forward to many replies and hope that the thread doesn't seem stupid or pointless.

While I'm here I might as well ask if anyone can recommend the best facepack for FM 2014?

Name: Keita Balde Diao
DOB: 8 March 1995
Nat: Spanish
Position: Striker
Team: Lazio

Background:
Keita was born in Spain to Senagalese parents and from a very young age was part of Barcelona's 'Cantera'. At 15, due to a prank (ice cube in team-mate's bed) he was 'kicked' out and sent out on loan to Cornella for a year. However, 15 year olds could not be loaned so they 'released' him, and (so they thought) he would then sign another contract with them after the loan. In that season Keita scored 47 goals and when Barcelona approached him Keita rejected them, attracting teams like Real Madrid, United and Lazio. He joined Lazio with team-mate Mamadou Tounkara in 2011 but didn't play for the youth team until 2012 when he finally received his Spanish citizenship. Keita and Tounkara were a driving force in that young Barca team but somehow the Spanish side managed to lose them both. Since their arrival in Lazio, the Lazio primavera (youth) has become one of the most competitive teams at that level in Italy winning the league last season. This season Keita has earned himself some playing time in the first team and has done very well in each appearence, providing numerous assists both in Serie A and Europa League and scoring 2 goals, one against Parma and another amazing one against Napoli where he dribbled passed 5 defenders. Keita is considered one of the most promising youngsters in the world making his superb dribbling, speed, selflessness and shots his key attributes. Unlike many players his age, Keita appears to have his head on his shoulder, displaying great maturity, professionalism and attachment to the jersey which he wears.

yup carlos fierro cause im mexican and i know him in real life he when to school with me in middle school and now hes a soccer player and im just sitting here

That's an awesome story (sorry about the ending though), do you still hear from him?

Anyhow, do you have him in your squad? If so, what's he like? Thanks for the reply btw, it's sad to see a 'non-spam' thread with no replies, let alone your own. ;)

Anyways here's Keita's transformation after almost 5 years. The 'before' photo was taken by me, but I'm sure it's how he was.

yea his facebook and holy sheit that is some transformacion and i do but im only 2 years in and i get bored cause i always play as southampton and i dont know what other team to use i use o use parma but the suck now and are poor as **** can you recommend a team?

I know haha, that's mainly because of first team football, although better options were present in the team I played Keita because of his potential. I highly recommend that people focus on at least one or two young potential stars.

Well, I'm a Lazio fan and always start with them. In 3 and a half years managing them I won everything except the Serie A and the Champions League (which I played once, got passed the group stage but before the finals I resigned). I enjoyed my time there until the final year where it became too frustrating losing to crappy sides and then beating top teams in Europe. I couldn't handle the inconsistency. However, if you're a good manager, with a few transfers you could compete for the title, although Juventus are another level! The main problem for me I think was the revolution of the side, after 3 years the team was almost completely new. That being said, Lazio's average age is quite high so it is expected. In the first season aim for a EL spot because the season after you could easily win it, like I did, and the year after you could again unless you qualify for the CL. I won the EL twice in a row but in one season finished 7th and in another I only qualified for the EL through the Italian Cup. The likes of Hellas Verona, Atalanta and Chievo seem to be hyped in the game, in real life they pose a threat to larger sides, and I think SI planned to imitate that in the game but it is exaggerated in the game and they often finish top 7, that's one of the reason why I found the Serie A difficult compared to European competitions. I enjoyed seeing Roma relegated in the first season and go straight back down when they came back up a year later! (6) Actually, I'm not even sure if they're back in Serie A...

Lazio has some potential stars in the side, for example Onazi and Felipe Anderson (who, unlike Keita, rarely played and therefore was wasted) as well as the younger Keita and Tounkara. Hernanes is class and so is Klose who could last you two years. Lazio's defence (DC) is poor however, I transformed it into a top defence for little money over the years. Musacchio of Villareal cost me 1M (Sold him to United for a 39M profit two or three years after), Rojo who I got cheaply and then expensively (17M) because he was partially owned by an agent and in the Beta you didn't need the full player to play him (Really ****** me off because he was only like 3M (100%) when I bought him, played a season, value went up to 24M or so and had to pay for the other 75%) Alvarez Balanta is another beast of a DC, now at Real Madrid for over 40M, paid him 8-9M. Jonathan Silva and John Stones (DL and DR) both cost me 16M but that was in the final season.

Sorry for the long reply man, but I just wanted to show you how success is achievable with Lazio. ;)

love it thanks im going to start a lazio save ill get fierro and all the players you told me thanks

My *that special player* has to be Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea. (Yes, I'm a Chelsea fan). I've a certain affection towards academy graduates, I'm not English.

Nathaniel Chalobah initially started his career as a defender and he was seen as a Terry successor and was already one of the best prospects in the academy, but then hr started showing very good passing and other attributes that would benefit more up the field so he was tried as a Defensive midfielder on a loan spell to Watford. This experimentation proved successful and he started his development as a midfielder in a Yaya Toure mould. He's currently on loan at Nott'm forest. I want Jose to integrate him into first team when he comes back in January. It'll help both the player and the club as midfield is currently Chelsea's glaring weakness with one of our young prospects sidelined for 6 months for Torn ACL.

I don't have screenshots right now as I'm typing from mobile.

He had okay/decent stats at the start, but I kept his training to heavy as Box to box and kept giving him chances in midfield against lower teams or in League cup matches, he developed well, next year he was among my best performers, bossing the midfield with his strength and passing (ended the season with 89% passing success). He played a major role in MF in my third season at the age of 20, he was one of my key starters. He has very well filled the void of club Legend Frank Lampard in my midfield, scoring some screams from distance as well.

He is the player I always keep a check on, even when I'm not managing Chelsea, although I do not buy him with other teams as I want him to be a Chelsea legend and be a blue forever.

That's brilliant man! It's crazy when you think about it, other players might not give these youngsters a chance to reach their potential and therefore waste the chance of developing a top player.

That was one of the things I considered when I bought him but in FM Lazio often sells players (E.G. I rejected 40M offers for both Onazi and Musacchio (Initially) whereas the computer would have accepted) when a good offer arrises so I said: They'll sell him to someone else anyway so I might as well take him and further enhance his development. Plus, my plans for the future are to go back to Lazio and make him part of the team again.

I was looking at the rankings last night and Monaco and Lazio are 18th and 19th respectively, I was happy about that because when I took charge of Lazio they were nowhere near that high. For Monaco, the credit for their position is not mine, I think they would have been up there regardless of my arrival. Plus, I brought Lazio to 'Rich' status which makes me proud, if only it was real life lol!

However, my biggest failure IMO is Muniain, when I arrived at Monaco Real offered me around 25-40M (Can't remember exactly) but I rarely used him (4-4-2, Volland, Carrasco and Rodriguez were better options) and now his value has descended to 8.5M and I can't sell him... Wait wait, I traded him plus 60M for Sergi Roberto... He was taking 7M and never played! Sometimes I wonder how the **** Ancelotti and Guardiola do it, too many good players and only 7 subs! That's good about the Serie A, you have 12 subs!

I play in EPL, I still do well with 7 subs. I make sure I have versatile player covering up for every position in case of injury but I also have subs according to my tactics.

I change tactics a lot during a match after watching, some games need me to use players with high aerial ability and direct, some need me to break down parked busses. I play a highly fluid 4-2-3-1 usually changing shapes in a match, going 4-2-4 when chasing a match, sometimes even 3-4-3 when its extremely important that I win. I start with same 4-2-3-1 but change accordingly (only if required).

I'm not a big fan of classic 4-4-2 :-)

For almost half a season with Lazio we were lethal with a 3-4-3 but Monaco's players are not suitable to it or maybe it's the Ligue 1's football that doesn't permit it to be successful but I'm no expert :D

Chalobah is extremely good as Box to box with his "Dictates Tempo" PPM. He usually controls the game near opposition half for me, a DLP doesn't go that close and AP focuses more on risky passes. Improve his tackling first then train him as Box to box heavy. Dude's got buttload of potential, will improve a lot with first team football. I'm not sure if he has fixed PA or -10, though.

Mine at the moment (Playing a net game) is a lad who came through the first intake back when I was managing Everton. Got sacked the next year and spent almost an entire season out of a job before going to relegated Cardiff. Luckily, held on to Caulker, and Cornelius so my team there is a little ridiculous, before I spent ?8m bringing Brian Clark to Wales.

Looking at his attributes, I like to see him as a young Alan Shearer, really good for me and if I leave for a big club, I'm sure as **** bringing him with me.

It's a regen, you're not welcome here..

Just kidding man, I love your "If I leave for a big club, I'm sure as **** bringing him with me."
Although they're virtual humans, it's incredible how you can develop affection for them. Mine for Keita is aided by his potential IRL and the fact that he plays for Lazio, yours on the other hand is even more incredible due to him being a regen. His attributes are class for an 18 year old!

I like to buy 2 players (depending on budget).
1. Ryan Bertrand. In game, at best a fairly good fullback, but he is the most consistent LB i ever had. A must buy for me all the time, if i can afford him.
2. Akos Kecskes 17y old(Atalanta). Last time i bought him was in my final Chelsea save in FM13, scout rated him same as Bertrand, fairly good at best. After 3 years: 4.5 stars potential, ~10 goals every season. He is a Central Defender. Corner monster (not using any sort of corner exploits). Paired him with Chalobah in the defense, rock solid.

Chalobah isn't a defender anymore in FM14. His tackling/marking stats are fairly low at start of the season as well.

Not a big problem, i used him a lot in FM13 in the DM position too. Now thankfully i have more options for him there. Anchorman/Defensive Midfielder seemed to limit his ability.
