SIR BOBBY ROBSON (1933 - 2009)

I don't think that I have to say very much about this man: Bobby Robson was one of the best managers this world has ever seen. And Bobby has seen it all: European success with Ipswich and Barcelona, domestic success with PSV, Sporting and Porto, managing his beloved hometown club Newcastle United and a successfull spell with England when only a cheat and a cruel penalty shoot-out held him away from the biggest prize in football, the World Cup.

I will select the English football leagues (he managed Newcastle, Ipswich and Fulham), Spanish First Division (Barcelona), Portuguese First Division (Sporting Lisbon, Porto) and the Dutch First Division (PSV).
My aim will be to manage every team Sir Bobby has and try to emulate his successes down there. It may be difficult to win the Europa League with Ipswich, but I'll give it a try. But first of all, I try to make myself a reputation at Fulham, where it all began...

Good Luck mate. A few have tried to emulate him before but have failed without really starting, I hope it goes better for you :)

Alright, the time has arrived: Bobby Robson's debut in front of an expectant crowd at Craven Cottage. They expect nothing but triumph against the Austrian opposition, Sturm Graz. Fulham are four games away from the Group Stages of the new Euro League, but they need to overcome Graz and another team which is yet unknown. These two legs mark the end of the pre-season for Fulham who were hit by injures of several first-team players, including Clint Dempsey and Brede Hangeland. Both are doubtful for the season opener at Man City on Saturday, 15th of August.

FULHAM FC 3 - 2 SK STURM GRAZ (OKAKA, NEVLAND, WÖLFER OG)
Certainly not what Bobby Robson had in mind in front of the 16.000 supporters at Craven Cottage. The home side with many players missing because of injury, lacked ideas and quality to break the Austrian defending line. Graz were 2-1 up front at half-time, but substitute Erik Nevland could equalise with 8 minutes to go. With everybody already expecting a 2-2 stalemate, a Graz player was forced to an own-goal 3 minutes from the end. Fulham have the slightest advantage possible for the second leg and have to improve if they want to advance to the next round.

STURM GRAZ 1 (3) - 2 (5) FULHAM FC (NEVLAND, MURPHY)
One week later, both teams met each other in Austria for the second leg of this tie. Fulham started much better than their opponents and killed the tie off at half time after taking a 2-0 lead at half-time by scoring goals from Nevland and a penalty from skipper Danny Murphy. Sturm Graz couldn't recover anymore from this double salvo and were only able to score a consolidation goal after 62 minutes.

Fulham don't play well yet, but it seems to be enough to win games. 2 wins in 2 games, it could have been worse. But we need to improve if we want to get something at Eastlands in 9 days time. I'm quite confident that we will reach the Group Stages of the EURO League as our opposition has been relieved: Fredrikstad from Norway. I honestly don't know anything about them, so we are the clear favourites to go through, anything else would be a huge disappointment.

Coming next: The start of the Premier League season 2009/2010 and the 4th Qualifying Round of the EURO league, and maybe some transfers if we can sign some players, 4 million pounds are not the world, but it's a fair enough budget.

THE PREMIER LEAGUE - LET IT BEGIN!

DAY 1: MANCHESTER CITY 1 - 2 FULHAM FC (DEMPSEY, NEVLAND)
You couldn't have asked for a better start to the season than THIS! Robert Mancini said in the pre-match press conference that he would be very happy to have such a "soft opposition" in his debut game. He had to eat his words, because my lads were terrific! Dempsey with a splendid free-kick and Nevland with a header silenced Eastlands before half-time. Man City, self-proclaimed title challengers couldn't get in the game until Stephen Ireland scored the 1-2 after 56 minutes. We defended well and survived the late Citeh attacks and got a fantastic result at the opening day!

EURO LEAGUE QUALIFIER: FREDRIKSTAD 1 - 3 FULHAM FC (JOHNSON, HUGHES, NEVLAND)
Five days after the great game at Eastlands we travelled to Norway to face an unknown force. I played the first team to avoid any trouble. I'm sure the hosts gave it their best shot to get something out of the game, but we were always winning the game. Johnson opened the gates after 9 minutes, but Fredrikstad could equalise a few minutes later. We had many chances, but didn't score. Two headers from Aaron Hughes and Erik Nevland in the middle of the second half settled the game and brought us on the brink of qualification to the Group Stages!

DAY TWO: BOLTON WANDERERS 2 - 1 FULHAM FC (JOHNSON)
My first loss in management, and what an unnecessary one it was! Andy Johnson fired the ball in the net to gave us an early lead and Bolton never got going in the first half. We should have led 4-0 at half-time, but we couldn't get past Jääskeläinen. From then on, simple football rules could be applied: When you don't convert your chances, you gonna concede at some point in the game. Bolton did twice, sending us home to London with empty hands. Very disappointing, because we could have won this game.

EURO LEAGUE QUALIFIERS: FULHAM 2 (5) - 0 (1) FREDRIKSTAD (OKAKA 2x)
I still had worries about this tie, so the first team had to play again. And they didn't disappoint me, Okaka scored twice in the first half to make things clear, Fulham are going to be in the Group Stages of the EURO League!

Tough draw for Fulham in the Group Stages of the EURO League: The Cottagers, managed by Bobby Robson, will face Benfica, Atletico Madrid and Kalmar FF from Sweden. I honestly can't see us getting past Benfica or Atletico, but we'll give it our best shot, that's for sure!

DAY THREE: FULHAM FC 3 - 1 BIRMINGHAM CITY (DEMPSEY 2x, NEVLAND)
Today Fulham put more misery on the Birmingham City team who have now lost their first four consecutive Premier League games. After a slow start with only a few scoring opportunities, Clint Dempsey broke the deadlock with a nice shot after 36 minutes. With their minds still in the dressing room, the Brum conceded the 2nd goal after 47 minutes after Erik Nevland's magnificent run through the defensive line of the guests. Birmingham came back with a screamer by Benitez, but the hopes of the Brum supporters didn't last long as Clint Dempsey scored a direct free-kick, and what a free-kick it was!

The draw for the Third Round of the Carling Cup was made, and Fulham were given a tricky tie: They play away at Premiership new boys Burnley. Burnley will visit Craven Cottage now, trying to get a good result against Fulham.

DAY FOUR: FULHAM FC 2 - 2 BURNLEY FC (SHOREY, JOHNSON)
Despite the late equaliser from Andy Johnson, who saved one point for our side, this was a game to forget. Burnley had no fear and played like that, too. They more or less dominated the game for most of the time and did what they wanted. Rightly so they took the lead before half-time. Nicky Shorey equalised after a corner, but things didn't get better, they got even worse: Burnley took the lead again and played like Man United. They were nearer to the third goal than our side to the equaliser. But Andy Johnson's volley saved the day for the supporters, but not for me. Very disappointing performance.

Best of luck. Sir Bobby was Newcastle's greatest ever manager in my opinion. The fact he got the sack was an outrage.

Cheers, mate. Totally agree with that statement. This sack was the beginning of a long, painful road for the Toon. Let's hope we'll be off this road very soon! Ho'way the lads! :D

SEPTEMBER UPDATE

DAY FIVE: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 0 - 2 FULHAM (JOHNSON 2x)
After the international break we travelled to Seven Sisters to play London rival Tottenham, and despite comments by their manager Harry Redknapp, who said that he'd be looking forward to beat us and get the season going after a disappointing start, we were the ones who celebrated at the end of the game. Tottenham dominated the game, but we scored the goals and were lucky that the Spurs missed one chance after another. This result certainly wasn't on my mind, but I can live quite well with it!

EURO LEAGUE, GAME 1: FULHAM FC 1 - 1 ATLETICO MADRID (HUGHES)
I don't know whether that was the biggest game in the club's history, but it certainly was one of the biggest games this club was ever involved in. Madrid were the favourites and demonstrated why, but Aaron Hughes was the first goalscorer after heading a Pantsil free-kick in the net. Madrid became stronger and stronger in the second half and Forlan eventually equalised after 74 minutes. We were lucky to get the draw as a second goal for the Spaniards was ruled out because of offside, Madrid were unlucky with that decision, and I admit, they were right to do so...

DAY SIX: FULHAM FC 3 - 1 EVERTON FC (HOWARD OG, PANTSIL, MURPHY)
What a great end of the week we have had after a strong win against the Toffees from Merseyside. I expected a close game, but things didn't start off well for goalkeeper Tim Howard who put the ball in his own net after a shot by Brede Hangeland. Pantsil increased the lead with a flying header after 35 minutes, but Everton came back with a Fellaini goal just before half-time. We stopped playing football in the second half, but Everton were not successful, instead we set up a flying counter-attack finished by a magnificent solo effort by our captain, Danny Murphy!

CARLING CUP 3RD ROUND: BURNLEY FC 1 - 2 AET FULHAM FC (ELM, RIISE)
Honestly, I don't bother much about the Carling Cup. That's why I rested several first-team players and game first-team debuts to Danny Elm, Gary Mackay-Smith and Danny Hoesen. Elm proved his selection right by scoring after two minutes. Burnley came back and equalised late in the second half. I brought Dempsey, Gera and Etuhu on to put pressure on the tired Burnley defence and it was a good decision, because Bjorn Helge Riise scored the game-winner after 116 minutes, sending us through to the next round! I didn't want to win this, but who knows, what's coming along!?

The draw for the Fourth Round of the Carling Cup was made, and Fulham got quite lucky: They will enjoy home advantage when they face Bolton Wanderers at Craven Cottage in October.

DAY SEVEN: FULHAM FC 6 - 1 PORTSMOUTH FC (MOKOENA OG, PANTSIL 2x, DEMPSEY, NEVLAND 2x)I'm acutally speechless. We obviously played with 12 men in the first half as poor Aaron Mokoena scored the opening goal into his own net after trying to block a shot from Erik Nevland. His afternoon got even worse after picking up two yellow cards before half-time. Pompey, who already lost 6-1 against Liverpool this season, crumbled like a schoolboy team. It was men against boys. We got the job done, destroyed Portsmouth within 20 minutes and enjoyed the afternoon. This game marks the end of a great month of September with Fulham sitting in 2nd position, one point behind Liverpool. Who would have expected that?

Note: Can anybody tell me how to make a screen-shot @ Windows 7?

good luck mate keep it up and the first club will be done europe isnt out the question i u do well in ur home games

OCTOBER UPDATE

EURO LEAGUE, GAME 2: KALMAR FF 2 - 2 FULHAM FC (PANTSIL, KARLSSON OG)
That was a must-win game and we threw a two-goal lead away without getting forced to do so. Pantsil scored after 26 minutes and Karlsson scored an own-goal to give us a comfortable lead at half-time. But our problem hasn't been solved so far: We stopped attacking and brought Kalmar back in the game. Mark Schwarzer fumbled the ball in injury-time to give the Swedish host a much celebrated equaliser, leaving us with one game after two games. We lost two points here, they might be crucial at the end of the group stages.

DAY EIGHT: HULL CITY 1 - 1 FULHAM FC (NEVLAND)
The last game before another international break saw us travelling to Yorkshire to take on Hull City, who seem to struggle this season. Nevland brought us the lead after 13 minutes, but Hull didn't give up and attacked us with no fear. Seconds before half-time, we had the chance to make it 2-0, but Clint Dempsey missed the penalty. Things didn't get better for us as Chris Smalling fouled Jozy Altidore in the box, giving Hull the equaliser. We failed to score another goal so we had to settle for a draw at the KC Stadium.

DAY NINE: SUNDERLAND FC 2 - 5 FULHAM FC (NEVLAND 3x, DEMPSEY 2x)
As a die-hard Newcastle supporter, that was the game of the season for me. And I danced at the sidelines in joy because my lads didn't let my down at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland failed to turn up in the first half, giving us the opportunity to lead 4-0 at half-time! I enjoyed every second today, but I changed the tactics a bit for the second half and rested some players for the Benfica game. Sunderland were able to sweeten the pill with two goals by Kenwyne Jones on this fantastic afternoon for Fulham FC!

EURO LEAGUE, GAME 3: FULHAM FC 4 - 5 BENFICA (PANTSIL, NEVLAND, ELM 2x)
What a game the sold-out Craven Cottage has hosted! We fought like brave lions but ended up with empty hands against the Portuguese giants. Benfica played clever football and led 3-0 after half an hour to the surprise of the Fulham followers who thought they could give Benfica a good game. But an incredible fightback saw us coming back on equal terms after 60 minutes, turning the stadium into a mad-house! Benfica didn't like it and scored another two goals within 6 minutes, and despite another Fulham goal, Benfica ended victorious at the Cottage, making it almost impossible for Fulham to qualify anymore, they're sitting 3rd now, 4 points adrift of 2nd Benfica.

CARLING CUP, FOURTH ROUND: FULHAM FC 4 - 3 BOLTON WANDERERS (ELM, OKAKA 2x, DEMPSEY)
I turned my sights on this competition as I believe that it's the easiest way to get into Europe. Nevland and Hangeland got rested, the rest was my first team. It was a good game between both sides, despite Fulham leading 4-1 after 55 minutes, Bolton never gave up and continued attacking. Bolton came back and scored two goals, setting up a nervy finish of the game. But the Cottagers survived the late attacks of the Lancashire outfit and celebrated their win which sees them through to the Quarter Final of the Carling Cup!

The draw for the Quarter Final of the Carling Cup was made. Fulham make a trip to Goodison Park, where they face Everton FC. A very tricky tie, but not it could have been worse as Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal were still all left in the hat.

DAY TEN: MANCHESTER UNITED 5 - 1 FULHAM FC (DEMPSEY)
Welcome back to reality, Fulham! We stood absolutely no chance today against United at Old Trafford, who were 3-0 up after less than half an hour. Whatever Man United did, it seemed to work, they were all over us. Clint Dempsey scored the only goal of the game, scoring a dodgy penalty after Gary Neville was suspected of a handball. With 3-1 down, we were waiting for an opportunity to somehow get back in the game, but Wayne Rooney killed our hopes with two goals late in the second half. A well deserved loss, but we'll be back!

good start unlucky about United. Will follow this keenly
