Reviving Luton Town - My First and Long Term Story

View attachment 397090

Luton Town Football Club is an English football club based since 1905 at Kenilworth Road, Luton, Bedfordshire. Affiliated to the Bedfordshire County Football Association, it was founded in 1885, and is nicknamed "the Hatters". Its history includes major trophy wins, several financial crises, numerous promotions and relegations, and some spells of sustained success. The club was perhaps most prominent between 1982 and 1992, when it was a member of English football's top division, at that time the First Division; the team won its first major honour, the Football League Cup, in 1988. During the 2013-14 season, the team is contesting English football's fifth tier, the Conference Premier.

Goals for the save
-Promotion to the Football League
-Promotion to League 1
-Promotion to the Championship
-Promotion to the Premiership
-Domestic cup win
-Compete in Europe

I hope this save goes well, please note I'm definitely not the best at FM and it may take me a few seasons to get things done!
Wish me luck!

Pre-Season

I quickly went about a complete reorganization of the club. We were spending a huge amount of unnecessary wages on players that definitely didn't deserve them. I began with just 500 p/w wage budget but after releasing and selling a huge amount of players I soon had just over 8k/pw spare.

I'm gutted about the sale of Andre Gray (our best striker in real life), however I am playing with the no striker tactic from this forum, so he simply wasn't needed. I'm going to use the no striker tactic for this season and see how I get on.

I then proceeded to bring in the much needed midfield and defensive cover, as well as a new goalkeeper to replace the aging Mark Tyler

I'm happy with all these signings, they are mostly League 2 quality, such as Bopp and Jamie Adams, however I made a small error with Konadu - although he will be used as backup so no matter.

Pre-Season

A decent pre-season gets us warmed up for our opener at Southport. I do like to play morale boosters so that's probably why it's all green haha

View attachment 397081

Well that's our preseason done- Let's we can kick off our season well at Southport!

Some Things I Forgot

Finances
Our finances are looking pretty stable. We have a very good attendance (probably L1 standard) so I'm not too worried about that side of things.

Wage/Transfer Budget Left

We still have a lot of wage budget left- hopefully I'll use it in January

Training

My team training depends on the match, but in general it's Defensive Positioning and Balanced.
Individual is based on role.

August

August

A solid, solid month - what a way to start our campaign for promotion!

View attachment 397076
Two massive wins against Forest Green and Cambridge, the latter who we've fought with all season for 1st in real life!

View attachment 397074
A great way to kick off the season, with 3 players scoring on their debuts. Bopp was my POTM, one assist and one goal shows he's raring to get going.

View attachment 397073
Disappointed about this one - thought we had the game wrapped up after Bopp's goal but noooo, a late penalty ensures we drop 2 points in my first home game

View attachment 397072
I was convinced history was going to repeat itself after Andrew scored, however Yussuff scored to ensure we got the 3 points

View attachment 397071
Now thats what I like to see! Three goals in 5 minutes ensured a quality away victory against a very good side- Bopp in particular was quality, loving his form at the moment!

View attachment 397070
And it gets better! A late-ish McChubby header wins us the game against fellow promotion contenders Cambridge.

View attachment 397069
Was pretty much in control here- although Yussuff has been injured for 5 MONTHS so I'm going to have a lot less firepower- Let's hope Bopp can keep up his form

We top the league by 2 points, I'll put the table in the next update

Player of the Month

Eugen Bopp

View attachment 397068It was very close between Bopp and Yussuff, however I feel Bopp's overall performances were better and I hope he keeps it up!

September

Wow, what a month. We conceded a grand total of 0! goals and destroyed second in the league Grimsby 5-0. Lets hope this continues!

View attachment 397034
What a performance! I was doubting Viana before the game, however he proved me wrong, scoring 2 and assisting 1- doesn't look like we'll miss Yussuff as much as I thought! This win also gives us a 4 point gap at the top, useful this early on.

View attachment 397033
A pretty scrappy win but a win nonetheless. I changed tactic late on and Guttridge repaid my tactic change by scoring the winner, his first of the season. Good teams win even when they play bad, right?

View attachment 397032
Very happy with this- all 3 of my AM's scored, along with a 3rd of the season for big fat McNulty to conclude a hammering of Dartford.

View attachment 397031
Here we go again. Viana is proving me completely wrong, scoring 4 in 4 and generally looking like a very good player. Guttridge also scores again, whilst we yet again don't concede. This may be hampered however by the 4 week loss of Dutot, a key CB for me

View attachment 397030
Oh and this happened....bye bye Richard Money - he was useless when he managed us haha!

View attachment 397029

View attachment 397028
Definitely not our best performance, but we kept a clean sheet away and Grimsby drew so we keep our 4 point advantage - would have liked a win against 22nd placed Woking though!

View attachment 397027
And we round off a quality month with an away win at Hereford. Ruddock scores his first senior goal which is cool, he has some serious potential and I'm definitely keeping him. Craig Lynch, our backup AM got injured for 4 weeks however leaving us with only Konadu as backup

View attachment 397026

Anyway, after such a good month surely I'd get Manager of the Month?
YES
View attachment 397025
And Viana scoops Young Player of the Month! He is definitely a starting AM from hereon out

View attachment 397024
Anyway here is the league table and some stats- we top the clean sheets and Bopp is up on the top goalscorers, a good achievement for an AM

View attachment 397023View attachment 397022
Player of the Month

It has to be David Viana- the young AM has played quality, winning Young Player of the Month and generally being quality, despite me thinking he was backup

Roll on October!

October

A few slip-ups this month, losing to Hyde of all people (the team with 1 win all season in real life!) and getting knocked out of the FA Cup due to an awful draw against Barnet - hopefully when the FA Trophy comes around I can go for that instead! Our league form was solid - and we now have an 8 point gap at the top.

View attachment 396759
We actually faced the bottom 3 teams in the first 3 games, I was hoping for 9 points but obviously Hyde thought otherwise!

View attachment 396758
A solid win against 23rd placed Halifax. We get things kicked off with a Bopp goal and it was all easy from there. McNulty is banging them in!

View attachment 396756
Bottom of the table -10 points Aldershot get a nice beating from us. Viana getting the early goal and then Franks finished them off all before half time. Things are looking good league wise as we take an 8 point lead due to a Grimsby slip-up

View attachment 396752
And so ends our unbeaten start to the season. Carlton scored two first half goals and we just couldn't finish, despite Andy Parry's consolation in the 90th minute. Hopefully we can pick up and get another win next game.

View attachment 396751
We lose Jamie Adams, first choice DLP for a few weeks :(

View attachment 396748
Literally the single worst team we could have got. At least it's at home.

View attachment 396747
Back to winning ways with a solid early 3 goals to seal the 3 points. Although Kane Ferdinand, our star player on loan from Peterborough, becomes our second 5 month casualty. Viana got 2 assists and a goal, looks like he's heading for Young Player of the Month again!

View attachment 396745

View attachment 396743
Ugh. They so did not deserve this win. We had 5 CCC's and 9 shots on target compared to their one. Ah well, these things happen. Onwards and upwards!

Table/Stats

View attachment 396741View attachment 396738
We top the table by 8 points. FC Halifax still struggling and I'm very surprised by Braintree- Dan Holman is always an animal on every save I do it's odd.
We top clean sheets, Player of the Match awards and Average Rating, along with naughty club captain Henry being in the Most Yellow Cards list.

Anyway, look who won back to back young players of the month
View attachment 396735

Player of The Month

Has to be Viana, again. He has just played great, scoring 3 and assisting 3 in 4 games. I really didn't expect much from him, he is only a "good conference player" but has potential for League 1 star so lets see how it goes

View attachment 396733

Lets hope we keep up the good league form in November!

A very solid month, but still a few close calls. We played awful at Southport and Welling, only winning due to Viana and a late Griffiths goal. Both Bopp and Viana scored hat-tricks, with Viana banging in 5 in 6 games this month, moving him onto the golden boot list. The win against Braintree was very good, as they were 3rd at the time. Lastly, we rounded off the month winning at Cambridge in our second awful cup draw - oh well, at least one of our main competitors is out!

View attachment 395867
Guttridge out for a while, absolutely GUTT-ed (badum-tsh)

View attachment 395865
McChubby picks up our third long term injury, COME ON. At this rate I'll have all my key players out for over 2 months, yay
League Table/Stats
View attachment 395863
We soar ahead by 11 points, looks like a 2 way race between us and Barnet. Aldershot finally move up a place, they should stay up.

View attachment 395861
Viana is shredding up this league, with 7 POTM awards and 13 goals. We top clean sheets and yellow cards too, as well as destroying the average rating stats.

Player Form/ Player of the Month
View attachment 395858
Viana tops the form list, with Scott Griffiths and Adams close behind, as the others are all injured/suspended

View attachment 395857

Player of the month simply has to go to this man. Viana has won us 3 games single-handedly this month and is completely surprising me. He is now a "Leading Skrill Premier player" and looks set to increase even more as we go on. A highlight was his freekick to win us the Southport game
