Brief description: Starting in England's Level 9 of the Football League pyramid with Darlington, trying to achieve as much success as possible, going up through the leagues, and if achievable, then the Premier League/European Competitions. At the end of the 2011-12 season Darlington Football Club, due to administration the club were forced to be relegated to the Northern League Division 1, four leagues below their current state, they were rejected the name to be carried over meaning a newly formed club Darlington 1883 were to start a new journey, for which they needed a new leader; After just finishing his coaching badges, a local young manager under the name of Nathan Parkin was to take the reigns of the club, and guide them back to their rightful Football League status.
After bringing in his own new backroom staff, and no fewer than 19 new players, to get the squad up to his standards for their promotion chase. Obviously so many signings need time to gel and get to know each other, however unlike many other English clubs, Parkin's priority for bringing in new faces was based upon technique and not fitness.

After he had previously stated his love for the passing/possession type of game, he installed a 4-3-3 formation, based on the made world famous tiki-taka style from F.C Barcelona, hoping to replicate the passing style from Spanish club with Darlington. View attachment 302233

In the club's 4 pre-season friendlies, Parkin recorded 3 wins after his first defeat to Blyth Spartans, this form continued in the Northern League D1: Darlington started the campaign looking like early title contenders, winning 3 out of 3, conceding no goals and scoring 7. Dominating each match.
However after this early start, Parkin encountered his first managerial troubles, as his club struggled to find a way to win, having only gathered 2 victories in 16 matches, along that time going 8 consecutive games without a victory. This made the board and fans alike begin to wonder whether the job wasn't going to be for Parkin, the state of his job became precarious and hanging by a thread.

Just as the press started to believe his job was going to end, Darlington have a valuable win away to Dunston, winning 1-0. Post match Parking went to the boardroom and request they should give him more time to turn the fortunes around, they approved and he was relived a bit of pressure off. Parkin gathered the team into a meeting, explaining they must improve as mid table just wasn't enough for the club predicted to be champions, and the ought to turn the draws and defeats into victories!
Since that win away to Dunston, Darlington went on an amazing run, which sent Darlo from 13th to 3rd in the league, recording 13wins, 3 draws and just one defeat. Scoring 27 and conceding 9. This really put Darlington in a promotion challenge with 12 games remaining, The Quakers are only 3 points shy of the top, seeming to have found form at a good time, their fans will hope it will continue into May and they can gain promotion.

The cup competitions; Northern League Challenge and the FA Vase ended at the first hurdle for Darlington, which came to a disappointment, however Parkin stated he felt the league was so much more important, and he had to prioritise.
