Can I get an Airport named after me? The Ralph Lavery Story
So before I start I must thank Lippo255 and his excellent CJ Lippo a life in football for the inspiration. This is my first ever story, maybe my first ever post, this is despite reading many stories silently in the past. Hopefully you guys enjoy the read.
So I have followed the same rules as Lippo had set out with a CA of 70 and a PA of -8 for my young upstart who will be placed at my home town team of Carrick Rangers in the 2nd tier of Northern Irish football. I had briefly considered placing my player in the English league system but remembered from my managerial save the young centre back I sold who last time I checked was the new John Terry at Chelsea, giving me the confidence that I will rise to the top if good enough. Anyway emough of the intro, lets get on with it.

So it was finally here. After a night when I was unable to sleep it was the day of my trail at Carrick. The day when all my practice of only using my weaker foot, of curling free kicks around the broken down Lada Riva in the carpark opposite my house would hopefully pay off. Now whilst it wasn’t exactly how I had dreamed it, it wasn’t Everton, Barca or Real, it was still a chance to get my foot onto the football ladder.

I arrived at Taylors Avenue and was so nervous, but was determined to give a good account of myself and get that youth contract. So we ran through some drills, ball control, passing, attack vs defence that sort of thing and then we played a match. I felt things had gone ok and I had even managed to grab a goal and an assist in the match, so I was hopeful but I guess you can never tell with these things.

So after the match was over we were split into 2 groups, one sent to the home dressing room the other to the away. After what felt like ages the manager came in and spoke to us. I'm still not sure what he actually said but I'm sure he said yes! From the noise and the jumping and cheering I definitely heard that bit right. I am going to b a footballer!

So first training session with Carrick and here I am. A striker who can also play in the hole. Some good finishing and passing stats but could have done with being a little quicker, but at 14 hopefully this will improve over the next few years.
I am hoping that I can maybe get the odd 1st team appearance even in one of the many cup competitions, but I firstly need to establish myself in the u18s as looking around me I look to be one of if not the youngest players here. Lets hope the Gaffer is of the opinion that if you are good enough you are old enough and that my age doesn’t count against me.

So with the transfer window slamming shut I remain at Carrick for the first half of the season. I had considered that I may be sent out on loan but they have decided to keep me around.
So the Gaffer calls me into his office after training on the Wednesday night. On the short walk for the local leisure centre were we train to the ground I’m wrecking my brain to think what I had done to **** the manager off to the extent that he needed to speak to me. Nervously I knock the door.
Gaffer: Come in Ralph, take a seat.
Me: thanks boss, what’s up? Have I done something wrong?
Gaffer: You have done something but it isn’t wrong. Ive been watching you in training and I have been impressed. So as you know we have the Steel & Sons cup on Friday night and I want you to start for us.
Me: In the 1st team? Me? Really? You think I’m ready?
Gaffer: I have faith in you to make the difference.
On my walk home I’m overjoyed, on cloud 9. I can’t wait to tell my class mates in school tomorrow.
So match day comes and I play, actually I have a stormer. With 1 goal, 1 assist and the PoM award. My football career has just hit overdrive and I just hope that I can now push on and become a regular in the 1st team.

That’s right a call up to the N. Ireland u19s. This will be another step up as I will again be playing well above my age and with players who are already with big teams across the water in Scotland and England. I just have to work hard and take it all in; all of this can only be good for my development.
So I start against Moldova and with a 6.9 rating I’m pleased with my performance though the yellow card was a bit of a let-down, but I have always loved a tackle even if I’m not that good at it!

Against Lithuania I start on the bench, 2 big games in 3 days is still a little much for my young legs, however I do get on at half time but make little or no impact and get a 6.5 for my efforts.

I’m over the moon with the start to my career; however this comes to a juddering halt when I pick up a knock playing for the reserves ruling me out for 5 weeks and missing the chance to make further appearance for the 1st team but also missing the next N. Ireland squad. Gutted!

Having worked hard to get back from injury I’m rewarded with a few further 1st team games and I now have 5 starts and 4 goals and even made the team of the week. This has also caught the eye of the N.I. u19s manager as I’m back in the squad again, good that the knock hasn’t affected me.

So having real difficulties with this. I have the story written right up until season 3, however every time I try to update it I keep getting told that there are too many URLs, which there are none or forbidden words which as far as I can see there are none. I will continue to try to re word things and get the updates up.

I had this before mate when i was doing my story - As you said i just had to reword some of the text and suddenly it worked...

So that is my first season as a footballer over. I have done quite well with 14 starts and 8 goal for the first team and also managed a handful of games internationally for the u19s. Next season the aim is to cement my place in both teams an improve the amount of game time and goals I get.
