Notts County cruised past league 1 outfit Hartlepool United at victoria park to book their place in the 2nd round of the carling cup. Michael Mifsud opened the scoring for his new side after just 28 seconds and it soon got worse for the home side as Ben Davies and the Nicolae Mitea extended county's lead. Hartlepool were given hope just before half time as Jamie Clapham guided the ball past his own keeper and then 2 minutes into first half stoppage time Adam Boyd put the league 1 side right back in the game. But second half goals from Mifsud and a first Notts County goal for Emad Motaeb sealed the win.
Notts County travelled to the south coast to face Bournemouth in a match between two sides tipped to do well this season. Bournemouth had 56% possession in the first half and wasted numerous chances in the first 5 minutes of the match which would come back to haunt them. Michael Mifsud kept up his fine start to the season when he ran on to a through ball by Nicolae Mitea for the opening goal on 10 minutes. With the home side pushing forward for the equaliser they were punished by who else but that man mifsud again when he curled a superb free kick past Bournemouth keeper Shwan Jalal.
