After getting bored of my Liverpool story (will still continue) due to the fact that it's my first story and that it is relatively plain.

Inspired by many before me, I have decided to start my own story about a manager. Seeing that many FM players and users of the forum are from some part of Europe and myself being one of the few from Australia, I've decided to start off by managing an Australian club, Sydney FC, and progress my story from there.

Like the title states it will be about the life of an Australian Manager. I'm not sure of my goals for the story as of yet but they will become clear as the story progresses.

Just to let you know, I am no Tolkien, Rowling or Goodkind. I write this for the love of the game and the love of the game only. And hopefully it might improve some of my writing skills along the way.:D

For those who are curious, the personality of the manager in the story will somewhat reflect on my own. My same name will also be used. As for the other details, I will let you find that out on your own if it be true or false.

Just to let you in on my game details. I will be using a large database playing in a few countries of my choice. I do not wish to announce them just yet. I will try to focus on both the game and the story as much as possible.

Wish me luck. First post coming soon.

Kristian Steko. Born in Croatia, Zagreb on August 20th 1988 and moved to Sydney Australia at only the age of two was, and still is a massive football fan. He still remembers the day when his father took him to see Sydney United play against Perth Glory in the wonder days of the NSL. The game was his life and passion. He trained as a goalkeeper until he was of the age of 14. That's when schooling and other personal issues made a break into his life. He just didn't have time for the beautiful game after that point. Every day that went past was agony without the ball in his hands or at his feet.

After a few years past Kristian almost completely lost all of his skill as a goalkeeper. His positioning was bad, he couldn't make right decisions, his technique was getting worse without the training and playing the game did not interest him anymore. But his intelligence grew as he was dedicated to his schooling.

At about the age of 15 he decided to help a family friend named Joe, coach his under 9's division 2 squad. His first training session went very well. He knew most of the boys from the squad and got on well with the others. At this point his intellectual mind started working wonders for this team. He knew, depending on their attributes (speed, strength etc) were they would play and how. Joe was amazed at Kristian's knowledge of the game. Joe had helped Kristian with man management and other aspects. But at the end of the season when the team won promotion into the 1st division, Joe recommended him for a coaching vacancy in the under 18's squad for the next season.

Four years later and Kristian manages the Sydney United 1st Grade squad and has won the flag three years in a row. The story starts about a week after the grand final against APIA. The young manager is well off the peak of his career.

What's the best you're hoping for? I guess to win the club world championship or something?

Although I live in sydney, GO GOLD COAST!!! You have a follower in me.

Surprise

Kristian woke up after a seventh consecutive day of partying. His head was sore just like the rest of his body. He eventually found the strength in him to get up.
Jeez two o clock in the afternoon......

He double checked the time on his phone.
Yep two o clock. And I don't remember a thing from the night before. Just the way I like it.

After taking a few panadols he noticed that on his phone was a message with 27 missed calls.

HTML:
 Please call back
Bit strange but alright....

The phone ringed about 2 times before someone picked up.

"Helo" A voice called

"Yea, who's this?" He asked

"It's Scott Barlow" The man answered

Kristian entered a state of deep thought, he has heard of the name before but he couldn't put a description to it.

"Who?"

"Scott Barlow. Chairman of Sydney FC"
Kristian's face whitened as he held the phone to his right ear.
Why would the chairman of Sydney Football Club call me?

"Listen Mr Steko, I have a proposition for you. Would you like to discuss it in person?" He asked.

"Sure, name the time and place mate." Kristian replied.

"Excellent. How about in the harbor, I've got to run a few errands in the city..... Hows about, in front of the opera house at around six tonight? I will recognize you don't you worry mate."

Bit hasty. I haven't even met you yet. Next thing you know he will be buying me dinner. Which reminds me, were are the girls from last night??

"Sounds good. Catch you then." Kristian finally replied.

"No worries mate, laters."

What am I getting myself into. I'm in no condition to go out.......... Twenty seven missed calls, this guy wants more then a date ay?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Kristian hopped off the train and walked down the stairs. He hadn't been to circular quay in two years. But it hadn't changed. Same old Maccas on the side with the food court to the right of it. He walked down the harbor to the steps at the opera house. A man called to him.

"Ahh Mr Steko we finally meet. Good to see ya" He said as he shook his hand roughly.

"Good to see you to Mr Barlow." Kristian responded as he gently took his hand away.

He was a lean man with short brown hair about the same size as he.

"Walk with me Kristian." They walked down the steps and into the botanical gardens.

"If you haven't heard already, Lavicka is on the verge of being sacked."

"Mhm" He replied

"So, due to your success in the past three years with United....." He paused as he looked at Kristian's dumb stuck face. He knew what was coming next.

Dear god....

"The board was wondering if you would like to take over Lavicka's place as manager of Sydney Football Club."

If you were a chick I would kiss you no matter how ugly you were.
Me take over? Lavicka is a century older than me with more experience..... How will this end out....

Kristian looked up to notice that Scott was impatiently waiting for an answer.

"Umm... Sure.. I mean. Of course I would like to. But why me?" Kristian asked

"Because of your success. Your young and yet you know so much about the game and that can only improve with the years you have ahead of you. Its a gable that we are willing to take"

"Show me the ****** papers" Kristian said.

He walked into the giant fortress of the SFS. It was only him and Scott walking across the grass in silence as Kristian stared in awe of the sheer size. He stared at bay 23 as he was in deep thought.

Bay 23.....The Cove...

He remembered the opening days of the A-League and him being one of the first to be apart of the large amounts of supports who cheer their team on behind the goal. They drank, sang, picked fights and embraced every weekend. Now he was going to be in the middle of it all. He thought he looked at almost all forty-thousand seats by the time he started to walk down the sideline. The rugby lines were still noticeable, but were going to be replaced by the football pitch. There were no goal posts up, rugby nor football.

Guess they will be coming up pretty soon.

They walked for about five minutes in silence when Scott said.

"She's a beauty isn't she?"

Kristian didn't answer him, he just kept staring at the awesome structure. He compared it to King Tom, the home of Sydney United. In comparison King Tom looked like a shopping trolley.

That day he had met almost everyone at the club.

No more talking to important people. This is what I've been waiting for, I shall cherish this and every other minute on the pitch.....

It was two weeks before their first training session and Kristian already had some sort of idea of what formation he was going to play and how he wanted his squad to play. He was notified today that he had about two million dollars (1M Pounds) to spend on transfers.

Most of the players won't appreciate me and probably take me as a joke. Like the more older and experienced players. This will be harder than I thought.

His assistant coach, Michal Zach already went out of his own troubles to organize some friendly matches before the season started. They play Manly at the end of June, Wollongong at the beginning of July, Sydney Olympic, West Sydney Berries, his old club Sydney United and his old rival club Bonnyrig White Eagles.

"Kristian, Phil Jones here from the sun Herald. Don't you think you are too young and too inexperienced to take up such a high reputation job like manager of Sydney FC?"

"Well I disagree with you. If you think that three NSW premiership wins in a row is not enough experience. You've got it all wrong mate. I also believe that my age doesn't affect my managing ability what so ever!" He replied

Please end. God I hate reporters. I knew they were bad but not this bad!

"It's surly going to affect your man management skills, especially the older much experienced players."

"I do not wish to talk about my managing ethics or anything relating to that matter. Now if you excuse me, I'm late for an appointment." He said in anger.

Not really. JUST **** OFF! Give the media five minutes with you and look what happens.

As he left, many more reporters started asking questions. He was harassed all the way to Scott's car.

"Mate, just get me out of here." He said to Scott.

"No worries. You look like you've been beat by tiger. Get used to it mate, its gona happen more often"

"That's what I'm afraid of." He replied.

If the reporters are like this, I wonder how my players are.

I can totally relate to this. Watching the Sydney United games at a young age, same Croatian heritage, a Liverpool fan. Following, best of luck =]

PS. Dinamo suck though.

The Training Ground

First training session with the 1st team squad. Kristian walked out onto the park. It was only him and Michal Zach on the pitch.

Kristian liked to be early for training sessions. It gives him time to think through and finalize what he would go through. About 30 minutes later the rest of the squad and some of his assistant coaches all arrived. He was surprised by the large first team squad. It consisted of 25 players. Many young and some much older. He stood in front of the squad. Many of the men he had already met, some he got along with, others thought he was a joke.

"Hurry up gaffer, you gona tell us what to do or what?" He heard a voice cry from the back of the scuffle of men.

"Mark you will shut your mouth and will speak when spoken to because mate, I'm in no F'&%^'n mood to argue" Kristian Replied.

He was told by his staff to discipline the players and to never take them lightly. And it is true that he is not in the mood for a fight. He's just been out drinking and his girls told him off.

Mark Bridge walked up to him.

"Didn't your parents teach you to respect your elders ay? I fu&^$'en teach you a lesson in that mate" He shouted aggressively

"Mark! Shut it! All of you go warm up and then we will get started on some drills." Tony Popovic, the first team coach said.
.
Most of the coaching staff respected him, and so did most of the squad. Just a few of them made things harder for him. He explained his way of the game and his formation for the first friendly against Manly. A few players stood out but there could be improvements. With many youngsters, Sydney is definitely a team for the future.

After a hard first training session, both physically and mentally for Kristian he went home. Many things were on his mind and he longed for a drink so much it hurt.

He kept thinking of bringing new players in. One thought was the legend Mark Viduka. Currently out of contract the striker has been looking for a club to join. Kristian was in contact with his agent and he told him he will get back to him.

Tired..... Need a drink to help me sleep.

Sunday, 28 June 2009.....

Kristian awoke from his sleep via a rather early phone call.

Jesus.... Who calls at ****** three am?

The number, was a private one. He decided to pick up anyway.

"Helo?" He asked.

"Yes hello this is Mark's agent. How are you doing..."

Mark..... Mark...... OH VIDUKA!

"Yes... Whats up?" Kristian Asked

"Yes Mark an I have both accepted you contract terms and we just need you to fax back a confirmation. Then he will be with you in a couple of days."

Wait... What. Your not serious are you???.......... SHITTT!!!!

"Yea no worries I'll get on it now. Will you be coming with Mark?" He asked

Like I care...

"Yes we will both arrive at the club in a few days. I have spoken to Matt Young and he said that he will inform you of our arrival." Mark's agent said.

"Ok no worries see you then"

"bye" Click..................

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH YEA!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, 29 June 2009.....

After meeting with Mark and having him train with the boys was a great experience for Kristian. Mark seemed to get along with everybody. He respected Kristian which was a good thing to.

Karol Kisel later that day said to the press that. "Signing Viduka was a great piece of managing by Steko."

Wasn't that hard.....

The next day Sydney were to play Manly United. Many things still going through his mind, but its only the 1st game so what ever happens, happens.

Manly United Vs Sydney FC

Wasn't too hard sitting on the bench for the first time as the manager of Sydney FC. Kristian was about to yell at his players when they allowed Manly to take two shots on goal in the opening ten minutes. Not long after that Kristian had something to cheer about. Kisel put in a wonderful cross into the box which Viduka finished.

First goal as manager... Wonderful play.

After that it was all Sydney. Scoring another 3 goals which followed.

Manly United 0 - 4 Sydney FC

After the game he shook all the players hands and told them each had a great game. A few sat silent in the change rooms but the others were thrilled to have won. Most of them gave Kristian their congratulations and then afterwards the dressing room was empty.

Better tell the girl I won.....

Ring..... Ring.... ring.......

No answer.. I'll just text.

Great story, it's like a autobiagraphy, just make sure you get the football in as well ;)

Wollongong FC Vs Sydney FC

Steko was FUMING when his defense let Dane Treneski take a shot from about 15 yards out and put it past Bolton. It came from Rhyan Grant's side of the part.

"Rhyan!!!! CLOSE HIM DOWN OR I'M ****** WELL GOING TO BRING YOU OFF THE PARK" Kristian shouted from the edge of the technical area.

After that point in the game it was all Sydney. They retained possession and attacked with it. Brendan Gan, replacement for Stevie Corica mad space in the box for himself and placed the ball in the net. Kristian applauded the good play and great finish.

Two goals followed. A tap in from substitute Mark Bridge and Stuart Musialik.

"Well done boys. We played well today and stuck to our game plan. I don't want to ever again see what happened in the first twenty or so minutes. For now I will forget it but if it happens again, I'll be having a hard think about your position in the first team."

With no complaints from the lads they went for a warm down and left.

Some respect..........some.

Wollongong FC 1 Vs 3 Sydney FC

Call the girl again........ No answer...... Send another text then.

What on earth is going on???

Sydney Olympic Vs Sydney FC

Same old, same old for Steko. Stevie Corica picked up a knock in the 1st half and in the second half, his replacement, Gan also received an injury. Steko fumed at the referee for not showing a card of some sort.

In the end Sydney FC came out winners. But with two casualties. Corica out for around 14 days and Gan out for 3 weeks.

Sydney Olympic 1 Vs 2 Sydney FC

Kristian later that day received a call from another agent saying that he accepted his offer. Whats annoying is that he will sign on next year.Zvonko Pamic the Croatian midfielder will be bought nest season for 1.7M (dollars)

"Zach mate..?" He asked his assistant manager.

"Yea mate?"

"Would you mind covering for me for the next few friendlies? I'm in way over my head with finding a replacement midfielder and other things." He asked him

"Yea no worries. I'm assuming you already know the rest of your lineup right?" Zach asked back.

"Yea that's all good. Thanks for that champ"

"Don't mention it."

More drinks..... and bed.

good start mate keep going like this and it will be a great thread no doubt

The bus arrived at the Dairy Farmers Stadium. Kristian stepped out. He had never been to Queensland before, or anywhere out of New South Wales for that matter. It was a totally new experience for him. As the team walked through the halls Kristian bumped into non other but "GOD" himself.

Oh my god.... Robbie Fowler... should I shake his hand and greet him?

"Hay Robbie how are you mate. I'm Kristian Steko, I manage the boys from Sydney." He said in a low tone.

"Hay mate, yea I've heard of you ay. Nice to meet ya, Big ask isn't it, to take up a club at such a young age." Robbie said.

"Yea, but the offer was there so I had to take it. How you liking Australia so far?"

"Its going quite well. Me and the boys won't be so hard to beat, you'll get a challenge. Speaking of which, I've got to get going. Catch you on the field ay mate?"

"Yea catch ya.." He said

GOD!!!!!!!

After being asked by the press who would win the A-League, and with who he will use to stop Robbie Fowler Kristian replied with no comment. He wasn't use to so much publicity and also didn't want to give anything away before the game.

North Queensland Fury Vs Sydney FC

Kristian felt a sudden shake of cold go through him as he stepped onto the pitch at an A-League game for the first time. He told the boys to give it their all today and to stick to his game plan.

Aloisi and Viduka played up front with Gan (back from injury) played just behind them. Brosque and Kisel played on the wing with Colosimo taking up the holding midfielder position. The back line consisted of Hwan, Golec, Keller and McFlynn with Bolton in goals.

The pressure was getting to Kristian until in the tenth minute Viduka's header just went over the bar. A very good start. Simon Colosimo got booked for a silly challenge from behind. North Queensland then had a good chance with a shot hitting the post and going out. Kristian thought his heart almost stopped. Later in the 40th minute Keller had a free header from a corner but it went well over the bar. In the last minute of added time the North Queensland striker was through and was one on one with Bolton. Luckily he struck it right at the keeper. After a nerve racking first 45 minuted the whistle finally blew for half time. Kristian walked into the dressing room with many mixed emotions.

"Boys, we've got the possession but were not creating chances. I want to see some balls been played into the box. Also, they are having to many shots on goal, close them down for christ sakes. Mark John you two swap places up there, I want mark playing ahead of you. Do it for the fans that traveled all the way from Sydney to watch our first match. Alright? Now get back out there.. GO!"

If we don't get as much possession in this half I'm going to have to play someone right in the middle of the park....... Hmmm

From the kick off there was an improvement. Viduka had half a chance, beating his defender but placing his shot too near the keeper.

"SPREAD IT WIDE BOYS. WIDER" Kristian shouted from the bench.

Gan had a similar chance but on the left side. Again, it went straight at the keeper. In the 70th minute Payne came on for a tired Alex Brosque. In the 74th minute Fowler was given to much time a space and took a shot just inside the box. It took a deflection and went into the bottom right corner of the net. 1-0 to North Queensland. Kristian felt sick. He always said to them CLOSE THEM DOWN! And yet it just doesn't happen. Viduka came off for Musialik also due to fatigue. Another chance went begging for Sydney when Gan hit the ball straight into the keeper again. After putting almost everyone forward. Keller put in a cross which went up to the far post, Hwan was unmarked and placed his header in the top right corner of the net. Quality finish from the defender.

Thank god.........

Kristian couldn't wait for the full time whistle to go and when it did a huge sigh of relief came over him. He walked into the dressing room again with emotions leaning towards his bad side.

"CLOSE THEM DOWN! CLOSE THEM DOWN! How many times do I have to F*%$ ing say it. That's exactly what happens when you don't. And that cost us two points. I'll see all you guys on Monday. The sooner I'm back home in Sydney the better."

Kristian decided for his assistant to take the press conference because he was not in the mood.

North Queensland Fury 1 - 1 Sydney FC

Throughout the week training sessions didn't improve. More players were on his bad side and he was loosing reputation with the fans.

Jesus. Over one match.......

The next game was against Adelaide United at the SFS. He needed to win this one. He decided to make a few changes, bringing Kofi Danning on replacing John Aloisi. John respected the decision at first but most of the lads showed their anger at the coach. Kofi is young but possesses great pace and would make a good poacher.

"Oh, So your going to give him a run and leave me sittin' on the bench gaff? Hows that fair eh?" Said Mark Bridge.

"You will get your chance Mark, just be patient." Kristian replied.

Mark again said something but Kristian just ignored it and continued with the session.

Sydney FC Vs Adelaide United

He could hear the roar of The Cove as he walked out onto the park. They were in full voice tonight. The SFS was packed to the rafters for Sydney's first home game of the season.

Only one change was made to the lineup. Kofi Danning replaced John Aloisi.

The game started off very slowly. Sydney held possession throughout most of the first half but couldn't create the chances they needed. The second half was more of the same and got worse when Adelaide decided to play more defensive. In the 89th minute Karol Kisel won a corner. He drove it to Golec. The Adelaide defender Lecki, atempted to clear the ball away from Golec's feet but ended up sweeping Golec up from under him. The referee immediately pointed to the spot and Mark Viduka placed it in the back of the net.

Sydney FC 1 - 0 Adelaide United

It was a win truly deserved by Sydney. They dominated the game and took their one and only chance when it was given. Golec received man of the match for winning the penalty and becoming a brick wall in the defense.

"We played well. The defense held up nicely giving Adelaide no chance to score goals and through that we held possession. The attack didn't play as well as our defense but we can work on that." Kristian said to the press.

Kristian was thrilled after his first A-League win. He told the boys that work was still to be done, but that day they played well.

Maybe I should call with the business phone.

Ring....Ring....

"Hello. Jess speaking." A voice came.

"Jess, why aren't you returning my calls or any of my messages?" There was a silence.

"Kristian, your a busy guy and.... Well I don't see you all that often anymore and... well...."

(Click)

Don't want to hear it..... Should have seen it coming long time ago. Almost out of scotch..... ****.

Not much changed in the dressing room after the Adelaide match. Sydney were on top of the ladder but most of the guys probably thought it was a fluke.

During the week Kristian had offered a professional contract to young prospect Kerim Bulet.

Central Coast Mariners Vs Sydney FC

The Central Coast were always a though side to beat at home. Kristian decided to bring Gan off and replace him with Corica who just returned from injury. He occupied the center of the park in front of Colosimo.

Both teams had good chances in the 15th and 16th minute of the game. The Mariners played it wide and danger man Mcalister got onto the end of the cross but put it over the bar. Sydney also played it wide to Grant as he played it into the box but was cleared for a corner.

In the 22nd minute Viduka found an overlapping pass to Kisel who shot the ball straight at the keeper. Another corner. In the 28th minute Viduka was 1 on 1 but also played it to the keeper. Nothing much happened up to the half time interval.

"Boys, were playing well. We need to play a bit more quicker. Were giving em to much time to get back. I wanna see some more shots to. Our defense is holding up well, we just need to score the goal. It will come lads don't worry."

In the 50th minute of the game Kellar gave a little shove at Mrdja. The referee pointed to the spot. The whole bench went up in flames.

"BULLSHIT! GET UP NICK YOU ******* LYING *******!" Kristian shouted as the 4th official tried to calm him.

"Did you see that mate? DID YOU? WERE PLAYING FOOTBALL HERE NOT ******* NETBALL!" He went on.

Mcalister then placed the spot kick in the back of the net.

"Well done reff, ruin a great game..... Well done."

Is this guy serious..

Later in the 68th minute Hwan was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Elrich.

"**** this I'm out of here." Kristian said as he left the bench.

That is ******* disgraceful.......

Central Coast Mariners 1 - 0 Sydney FC

Kristian later received a warning from the FA for telling the press that he thought the referees decision was wrong on both occasions during the match.

Good luck mate. Never really tried the Aussie league because of the salary limit but I might give it a try

Sorry if I haven't been posting much. My studies call. But I update when ever i get the chance.

I honestly see no point in continuing this story, but I am planning on starting from scratch when Football manager 11 comes out.

Because of the usual stories which only have a certain amount of detail, eg Transfers, wins etc, the word "STORY" can be misinterpreted. I intend to write a new introduction to the story with a new and improved layout with new ideas.

I intend to have 2 separate parts to the story, the actual STORY and the FM screen shots. Don't have a clue how I'm to sort that out but I have enough time to think on it. I'm open to any suggestions from you guys.

The story will be about a young Australian Manager wanting to hit the big time. Not sure of my goal as of yet but I will think on it :)

Be sure not to miss my story of an Australian Football Manager in FM11 guys should great and fun :D. If you have any suggestions please message me. I shall very much appreciate it.

Sorry if I have posted this reply in the wrong thread. I didn't know where else to put it.
