The UEFA Champions League Challenge

This is the challenge that I created a couple of years back and its quite simple - win the Champions League with teams that have already won it and try and earn as much points as I can. This is a fun challenge to try and is against my usual 1 club saves.

The teams I can manage and the point rewards are as follows...….

You only get points for the first victory in the Champions League so if you won 5 with Celtic you would get 40pts and not 200.

COME AND JOIN!!!

I will use this as my story thread for my attempt but feel free to post your Champions League successes with managerial history on your current save and I will put up a leaderboard. Or just start a new save and have a go at it!

FC Barcelona

I thought I would go for a quick 5pts lol and then see where it takes me. I did consider Juventus and Real Madrid but I prefer Barcelona and the chance to manage Messi, Suarez and Griezmann really excited me.

--

Just a quick note on how I will manage this. I will try and avoid signing players from future clubs that I can manage and I will naturally prefer to sell players to clubs that I will manage also. Once successful I may do a firesale at each club lol.

Messi could be heading to Steaua Bucharest lol

Sampdoria 0

AET

Lineup

Johann Cruyff's Barcelona won their first Champions League thanks to an excellent Ronald Koeman free-kick in extra time.

Arsenal 1 (Campbell 37)

Lineup - Valdes, Oleguer (Belletti), Marquez, Puyol, Van Bronckhorst, Edmilson (Iniesta), Deco, Van Bommel (Larsson), Giuly, Ronaldinho, Eto'o*

Frank Rijkaard led Barcelona to glory here against an Arsenal side who had their goalkeeper sent-off early in the first half. Despite that Sol Campbell put Arsenal ahead however Barcelona clawed it back thanks to Samuel Eto'o and Juliano Belletti struck the winner.

Manchester United 0

Lineup - Valdes, Puyol, Toure, Pique, Sylvinho, Busquets, Xavi*, Iniesta (Pedro), Messi, Henry (Keita), Eto'o

Pep Guardiola won his first Champions League as a manager as Barcelona edged out Man Utd. I seem to remember there being talk that Messi never scored headers or against English sides so he duly popped up with a looping header to secure the trophy.

2011 Champions League Final

Barcelona put on a footballing masterclass as they easily beat Man Utd here. Pep Guardiola's side played some scintillating football and scored some tremendous goals and despite Man Utd levelling they were outclassed throughout. My Man Utd supporting mate got married that day and I seem to remember taking great delight in annoying Stonecold at the reception lol.

Ibrahim Afellay is the first player to appear in the - how the **** did he get a Champions League winners medal? - category.

2015 Champions League Final

Juventus 1 (Morata 55)

Luis Enrique was the victorious manager here as Barcelona won their 5th Champions League. I cant remember too much about this final lol but I know I watched it. Jeremy Mathieu has a Champions League winners medal!

PRE-SEASON

I had £25m to spend and two positions I really needed to fill - left back and centre back as I had no depth there. I filled those positions and also brought in a couple of wonderkids to boost the ranks. With me only intending to be at the club short term (hopefully) I wanted to bring in some prospects who would be excellent as a leaving present - thinking of that when I haven't had a game yet!

Other than that I was adding one or two to the backroom staff.

Anywho regarding transfers I went off to Aberdeen and paid £8.5m to bring in
Scott McKenna. He was excellent in my Aberdeen save and although he isn't a ball playing centre half he should thrive at Barcelona and hopefully he will excel.

I also paid £8.5m to bring in
Jetro Willems from Eintracht Frankfurt. The 24y/o is a decent left back and will provide cover for Jordi Alba.

The 2 wonderkids that I brought in were
Pelayo Morilla from Sporting Gijon for £625,000 and Armin Djerlek from Partizan Belgrade for £500,000. My 2 future parting gifts lol.

Leaving the club was Arda Turan who joined one of my future teams - Marseille - for £4.7m

Regarding my squad we are obviously very strong. I am keeping my usual tactic so will play Griezmann out of position as an AMC but he will play up front should Suarez be injured. Abel Ruiz has been called up to the first team squad just in case.

Barcelona 2 (Messi 29pen, Griezmann 90)

Lineup
- ter Stegen, Semedo*, Pique, Umtiti, Alba, Arthur, Rakitic (Busquets), Messi, Griezmann, Coutinho (Dembele), Suarez (Rafinha)

One game managed - one trophy won. Suarez was disappointing up front so I subbed him and moved Griezmann up top and he duly got a debut goal.

Real Valladolid 0

SUMMARY

Just two games to start the season and we won both and even collected a trophy. I am looking forward to when my players settle into my tactic and I would hope that we would destroy most teams.

Anywho this save is all about the Champions League and we have been drawn against Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan and Celtic - 2 of my future destinations.

Anywho regarding transfers worldwide my future teams have made some changes. Bayern sold Tolisso to Real Madrid but replaced him with Lorenzo Pellegrini and they also signed Rudiger and Weigl. Man Utd signed Hysaj from Napoli and Chelsea signed Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic.
