I've been playing football manager long before it was football manager. I have always enjoyed it but cant get a handle on the new game.

I've played so far with Arsenal, Everton and Southampton and have done lots of wheeling and dealing to create really strong teams.

I have yet to make it to January with any of these teams without being sacked or **** near the relegation zone. I really cant understand what is happening and how such good teams on paper could be doing so poorly.

I like to play 4-3-2-1 with flat four at the back (full backs on automatic, centre backs on defend), three central midfielders (one on support, one on automatic and one on defend), two wingers (both on support) and one advanced forward (on attack).

My results with all three teams have been wildly inconsistent (beat Man Utd 2:1 at home and then lose 5:0 away at QPR). I have also had huge issue with morale with players talking issue with team talks or with unrest in the squad due to treatment of fringe players requesting more game time.

I would really appreciate any advice on how to turn it around. Finding this game so frustrating. Never had these issues trying to get a handle on previous releases.

I cant get over how sensitive players are in this game. I cant imagine a whole dressing room turning on a manager in real life for telling a fringe player that you are in charge and he needs to carry on putting his head down if he wants a game.

Help needed stat !!!!

Yeah read the above link that igneos79 gave you. I was in the same boat but im doing a lot better now. Im currently in late December 2014 and hoping to see January 2015 for the first time in this game in the next hour!

Your team just sounds so unbalanced and generic, completely lacking any creative player to create chances and a forward who will be isolated.

You need movement from deep, you need to create overloads and overlaps. You're playing in straight lines and it's no surprise you are struggling.

Stop using automatic duties. Automatic means their duty will be influenced by your mentality. So for example.

Contain, Defensive - Duty is defend
Counter, Standard, Control - Duty is support
Attacking, Overload - Duty is attack

Seen as you haven't mentioned your mentality I can't comment on that, but you can see what their duties are now and will have a better idea on how they're playing.

If you insist on playing 3 CM (roles not position) then you will need to play fluid or very fluid to make up for the lack of specialist roles in the side. Make the Advanced forward a DLF(S), CF(S) or False 9 so he isn't isolated and he will link up play.

That's all I can say right now as you haven't given a lot of detail on your whole set up. Post your full tactic, mentality, fluidity, PI's, TI's and you will get better help.

You also mentioned doing a lot of "wheeling and dealing". Buying and selling players affects both team cohesion and tactical familiarity. If you've added several new players, they don't bed in and perform to maximum level immediately. That can be a factor as well, especially if you aren't taking any specific steps to address it.
