Tottenham Hotspurs were formed back in 1882 and in 1901 became the first non league side to win the FA Cup. Since then Spurs have gone on to win the FA Cup a further seven times with the most recent being back in 1991.
Tottenham have won the Uefa Cup on two occasions along with winning the Uefa Cup Winners Cup in 1963 becoming the first English club to do so. In 1960-61 Tottenham were the first team to complete the double in the twentieth century, when they lifted the English first division title for the second time.
Spurs have also won the English League Cup on four occasions along with lifting the Community Shield on four occasions. Last season (2012-13) Spurs finished in fifth position just one point behind arch rivals Arsenal which meant the club had to settle with Europa League football next season instead of Champions League.
Post season Spurs superstar Gareth Bale made his much anticipated move away from the club in a world record transfer to Real Madrid for a reported £85'000'000. Coach Andre Villas Boas reinvested heavily bringing in Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen for a combined fee of over £100'000'000.
In a somewhat shocking turn of events Tottenham head coach Andre Villas Boas resigned from his role at Spurs taking on the vacant Zenit St Petersburg job with just over a month remaining until the Barclays Premier League was due to kick off.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy acted quickly and promoted from within with an unknown U18's coach being thrust into the limelight by landing the job on a one year contract.
The new manager set out his philosophy when meeting up with the media for the first time, promising a game based around possession based, attacking football along with a heavy reliance on the club developing a constant supply of talent to the first team focusing money on bringing in young players from around the globe to be placed into the various youth squads and moved up accordingly.
