Before I get cracking on the story, I'd like to say welcome and thank you for reading; it will be my pleasure to manage my favorite club into the future whilst, hopefully, bringing you some entertainment from the read. I'll be using a variety of media to try and portray this save as it would be portrayed to the general public (so it will include news reports from various papers and publications, club releases, youtube videos etc.) I look forward to seeing where this takes me.
Andre Villas-Boas was axed from Tottenham after failing to reach the Champions' League by just one point.
Tottenham have sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas after less than a year in charge after he failed to carry the North London club to the Champions' League.
The first casualty of the new Premier League season has arrived. After just a few short months in charge of the Lily Whites, Portuguese manager, Andre Villas-Boas has been axed after failing to see his Tottenham side to the highest stage in Europe.
A Spurs statement said: "The club can announce that an agreement has been reached with manager Andre Villas-Boas to the termination of his services. The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties."
The statement also revealed that, for the time being, Tim Sherwood, the technical co-ordinator at Spurs, would be taking charge of training while the club look to find a replacement for Villas-Boas. Steffen Freund and Tony Parks will also remain at the club while Jose Maria Rocha, Luis Martins and Daniel Sousa, all three thought to have been Villas-Boas supporters, have also left the club.
Early leaders to take the young manager's place are former England boss, Fabio Capello, Spurs' current Director of Football and Capello's assistant while at the FA, Franco Baldini, former Spurs boss, Glenn Hoddle, or Swansea manager, Michael Laudrup.
This was not Villas-Boas' first short-term appointment in London, nor was it his most turbulent. The young Portuguese manager spent some time at Stamford Bridge after his extremely successful stint at Porto before falling quickly from grace under the immense pressure of English top-tier football. Villas-Boas could not be contacted for a statement.
Claude Montpils, former French international, has been named the new manager at Spurs.
Chairman Daniel Levy announces that the Tottenham Hotspur have found their replacement for the ousted Andre Villas-Boas in the former French midfielder, Claude Montpils.
The announcement came six days after the axing at White Hart Lane that left one of England's most watched clubs without a manager for the second time in a year: Claude Montpils, who many will remember as the talismanic midfielder for the French national team, will take the helm at the Lane. His appointment has drawn some mixed reactions from supporters of all stripes with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust giving wary approval to the decision, while Lord Sugar, a famous Spurs fan and former Chairman at the North London Club, questioned the efficacy of hiring such an unproven manager.
"Mr. Montpils was certainly a great player, and I know he's been coaching a lot in France, but he has no managerial experience that I can see," said Lord Sugar in an impromptu interview with ESPNFC. "I mean, I'm not saying he won't be good, I'm just saying that I'm worried and I would have thought there might have been other, more suitable options for a club of our stature."
Naturally, current Chairman Daniel Levy struck a different chord with the media; in a prepared statement, he informed us of Montpils' appointment and said that he was "personally very invested in the career of Montpils" and that he believed that the marriage between Spurs and Montpils would prove a beneficial one for both parties. "I'm aware of the concerns that supporters have voiced over Monsieur Montpils' lack of managerial experience," said Levy. "But over the last six years, Claude has worked hard to get his continental pro license and he has been coaching in French professional football since his retirement in 2002. After extensive deliberation and vetting, I am very confident that M. Montpils not only has what it takes to succeed with Spurs, but to take us higher than we've been in some time."
Claude Montpils inherits a squad that promises good things, although fans are still nervous about going ahead into a season without their golden boy, Gareth Bale, whom the side sold for 78 million pounds earlier in the off-season. That money was re-invested in the squad and several new players were brought in. What they will be able to accomplish will come down to Montpils and his team, however.
Montpils is expected to make an appearance before the press in the coming days.
Franco Baldini, Spurs' Director of Football, has been relieved of his duties by the Board of Directors just two days after Claude Montpils has been appointed.
Tottenham Hotspur have sacked their Director of Football, Franco Baldini, just days after appointing their new manager, Claude Montpils. In a short statement, a club spokesman said that the decision was reached after a few of Baldini's decisions had come under question, including the decision to sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. The decision to relieve Baldini of his duties comes as what can be described as a sort of cleaning house at White Hart Lane after the disappointing finish to their last season. The club revealed that their new manager would be undertaking all transfer negotiations for the foreseeable future in a departure from the continental model which might please some Spurs fans who have been bemoaning the Director of Football's presence at the club on Twitter for some time now.
Baldini is joined on what has been labelled Tottenham's night of long knives by fitness coach Nathan Gardiner, and the entirety of the club's scouting team. It would seem, then, that Montpils is not only intent on making his mark on this club on the pitch but in the transfer market as well.
We were able to reach Baldini's agent who said that he was "disappointed by the decision to part ways, but if the Tottenham organization prefer to put all their eggs into the untested basket that is Claude Montpils then so be it."
The French Centre Back has been a popular player at Spurs since he started there in 2009.
Tottenham have signed a contract extension with their French CB, Younes Kaboul, keeping him at the Lane until 2017.
The first act of Tottenham's new manager, Claude Montpils was to sign Younes Kaboul to a contract extension, keeping him at the Lane until 2017 and paying him 51,000 pounds per week -- a wage he said was "very fair" for the contributions that he expects from his Centre Back. Kaboul's contract was set to expire at the end of the season and Montpils wanted to make sure that he got the best out of the strong man. "Giving a player a level of security, to know that his future is fairly safe, is very important to me; it is important that they know they can trust the club and that the club has their back," said Montpils. "I'm glad that we have been able to lock him down for his best years."
Pastore Moves to North London Last Update 21/08/13 -- TEAMtalk.com

Tottenham Hotspur sign the cultured winger, Javier Pastore, who is expected to come in and claim a first team place immediately.
Claude Montpils has been busy at work strengthening his squad over the past month, bringing in four new players, the biggest name being Javier Pastore who had previously been playing at Paris Saint Germain. Pastore brings international experience already having 10 caps for Argentina at just 24 years old and having played in both France and Italy before. The Spurs boss said he was delighted to sign his man for just 15.75 million pounds given that the Paris outfit paid over 35 million for him.
Pastore mixes good pace with incredible flair and footwork to dazzle crowds and confuse opponents during his runs down the left flank. He is viewed by many as a replacement for Gareth Bale who left the Lily Whites this summer for a record fee of 76 million pounds. While Pastore may not be a like-for-like replacement, one thing is certain: his creativity will really help Spurs going forward. This signing was praised by Spurs legend and fellow-Argentine, Ozzy Ardilles who said "Javi [Pastore] is a top talent from Argentina and I have every confidence that he will provide a lot of great creativity going forward for Tottenham. This is a good signing in my view."
Javier was unveiled to fans and media this afternoon where he said that he was very excited to be able to play for the storied North London club and for Claude Montpils. "It is a great chance for me to prove myself in the best league in the world, and in the greatest footballing culture in the world," said Pastore. "I want to thank Claude for giving me this opportunity and let all the fans know that I am going to play and train my heart out for this club. Come on you spurs!"
Montpils, too, was enthusiastic at the unveiling ceremony, saying that he believed that Pastore would be a lift to everyone at the club. "I think that once Javi gets into the swing of things, gets training with the lads, and finds his feet with our club, he will be a favorite for fans, players and coaches alike. He is very ambitious and that is what I'm trying to inject into the club -- that and the kind of creativity that he can bring to the table which will balance out our very hard working team. Overall, I think this signing will prove positive for the club."
Javier Pastore is the last in a list of four signings that have been made since Montpils joined the club. The first was Brazilian international striker Leandro Damiao (6.5M) who promises big things in the future, the Czech left back David Limbersky (2.2M) who will likely share first team responsibilities with the young Englishman Danny Rose, and the hot young prospect Italian goalkeeper Mattia Perin (1.5M) who is coming in to play backup to French superstar Hugo Lloris and replace the aging duo of Hurelho Gomez and Brad Friedel.
Table-topping Tottenham celebrate their most recent victory against Manchester City.
Tottenham Hotpsur are atop the Premier League table after one month of play, having won three of four matches in that competition (and both of their Europa League fixtures), and drawing in one. In August, the North London club beat Swansea 2-0, drew Newcastle at St. James Park by 1-1 in a disappointing match, defeated Fulham 2-0 at home and, in the most exciting result, beat Manchester City away 1-0. Newly-appointed manager, Claude Montpils, said that he was very happy with the results that his lads were getting, and that he looked forward to carrying the momentum on into the rest of the league campaign.
Not only has Tottenham been finding success in the domestic competition, but they are looking forward to continuing their success in the Europa League. They annihilated their opponents, Domzale, in the play-off and are now drawn in a group with Victoria Plzen, Real Sociedad, and Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The group looks like it may test the English side but Tottenham should get through.
