FM is beyond a joke first game of season Arsenal away used the Brian Clough Tactics went well won 1-0 nil via a penalty from Modric so I decided to keep that tactic and players nothing changed went to Newcastle got beat 2-1 I can't see how using the same tactics that beat Arsenal can then get done by newcastle then I got beat off Hull 2-1 I can't understand its ridiculous FM needs to get a grip. Any suggestions to sort it out.

you cant expect to win every game, gareth southgate uses the same tactic every week - beats liverpool and loses to everyone else!

newcastle away is a different prospect to arsenal away i assume, you should maybe tweak it to to suit the team you play but gettin beat by newcastle away isnt that obscene?

Fact Sam Obscene. Really no offense to Newcastle no matter what tactics I do I should be beating them. I decided to sell Keane and Defoe as there absolute flops

maybe the arsenal win was fluke and your tactic is a load of *****

Maybe but its a well trialed tactic that everyone uses Woody's Brian Clough Tactics if you have any other suggestions I'd willing listen.

maybe it doesnt suit your team, ive had a tactic that has absolutely dominated with some teams and totally failed with others, youve gotta work a tactic round your team and its strengths and not just use a pre-made one and expect instant success

Don't blame the game because you downloaded something and didn't work how you wanted.

Maybe you should of lost to Arsenal as well but if it wasn't for the penalty it might of been a great result just getting a draw? Maybe Arsenals team was full of injuries or they wern't fit yet.

It's the start of the season, the time teams are the most inconsistant, Tottenham sucked at start of the season, even Man U were drawing/losing games they shouldn't. Tottenham has a lot of new players, it takes time to gel together.

Maybe your players don't suit the tactic? Just because it works for others doesn't mean it will work for your squad of players.

Tips? I haven't played Tottenham so will be general:
- I play more cautious, especially when starting a match. I aim to keep possession and not conceed, if i'm doing a good job of that then i'll start to up the tempo/width/creative freedom gradually. Going into a match with a team where half the starters have never played a competitive match together and expecting them to play attacking, fast tempo, creative flowing football is asking for trouble.
- It could be due to weather. If the passing is short and quick with lots of dribbling but the weather is a downpour the ball will be slowed down so best changing the tactic to more direct passing. At the other end if there's lots of direct passing but its really windy the balls will just get blown off target.

Maybe you should of lost to Arsenal so getting a draw would have been a great result but you got lucky with the penalty? Maybe Wenger should have been blaming the game for the loss? Maybe Arsenals team was full of injuries or they weren’t fit yet or the weather/pitch didn’t suit them or just weren’t gelled because its start of season and they rely on fast tempo where a team like Newcastle/Hull are slower more physical style so less gelling required to play to there style.

Its funny I have been using the Brian clough tactics with Tottenham and had success with it. Just won the world club cup. Might restart the game from scratch and see if it works again.

Tactics or should i say results will be inconsistant until the team become fully gelled with them. The Newcastle game may have just been on of those games, football is always throwing up strange results, thats what makes the game so popular.

you cant win every game i have beaten chelsea 2-0 with my middlesbrough but have been destroyed 5-0 by pompy thats football for you every team has thier good and bad day maybe you had a good day against arsenal

you cant criticise tactics cause it never won you the game against newcastle becuase then you could say that tactic wone me the game against arsenal

thats life thats all i can say

That's very, very true JP Woody. Until the squad is gelled properly, then you have to play slightly more cautiously than you'd want to. On top of that you've got all the various things which do need tweaking - a defensive tactic which closes down space in the middle might be ideal against Arsenal, but play it against Manchester United and you'll get creamed.

Plus at the start not only are they not gelled together, they don't really respect you which makes team talks a lot less effective. Really only the players you bring in respect you and pay attention to you when giving team talks, so its hard to get the best out of your players initially.

I think thats possibly one reason people have problems, they buy all these wonderkids selling the older players to fund it and end up with limited Influence/Determination in the team. Hence with limited response to your team talks and lack of leadership on the pitch things are more likely to go badly.

If your Tottenham I would not be surprised at all to loose to Newcastle home or away, they are much better on the game than in real life

Absolutely. I'm coming more and more to the conclusion in my games that a response of 'not listening' to teamtalks is actually a sign that my managerial authority (in terms of reputation) is actually not high enough to reach certain players and trigger the reaction I'd like from a player with a teamtalk. Top class players and a manager with no (or a very low) reputation is a recipe for disaster if you don't get things very right, very quickly. Combine that with inattention to detail, and you could well have a very frustrating game.
