Transfer Tips - "Admire Youngster" Does this work? How to get them to force transfer?

I am playing as FC Nantes in Ligue 2 presently and have found a youngster I want to try pry away from a club.

I first admired him in the press and he declared that he was very grateful for my praise. A week later I said that our club would be interested in signing him but a number of players are on the radar.

He came back with "FC Nantes would be an attractive proposition. Won't reveal any more until some concrete developments have been established."

Where are you supposed to go from here? I can make an offer. My scout says he's valuable to the club and that a whopping 2.1 million might be necessary. Obviously I'm saying all this stuff in press to hopefully get him to force a transfer cheaper.

The problem is no matter what I try to offer (i've tried multiple saves) I can't seem to get him for less than 3 million no matter what. Has anyone successfully done this?

To significantly reduce his transfer value he'd have to complain about being unsettled, refuse new contracts, demand a transfer and generally destroy his future at his existing club - and no-one's going to throw their toys out of the pram in the hope of going to Ligue 2, are they? If he's that good he'll probably have higher ambitions before too long. I'd pay up if I had the money.

Using FMTRE to check some of relations for fun, I found a player whom I announced to the press that I'd wanted to buy had immediately slapped me onto the 'disliked person' list. ¬_¬

So it can backfire, especially if you don't put in a bid soon.

Keep praising him until he has you as favoured personel. After that declare interest in him. Then after he's said he would love to come to your club, make a low bid (but still not laughable) for him. The club will say no, the player will be ****** and his value will drop, and if he doesn't have much of his contract left, he won't sign one leaving you free to do so.
