Good morning guys
I am about to start a new game on the 11.3 database as Arsenal in a 4231 formation. I was reading a post about the Trequartista role in FM 2011 and thought that Cesc Fabreags would be good in that role because of his stats. I have tried fabregas as an advance playmaker support, deep lying playmaker support and box to box midfielder but so far I have not got him to perform well.
As anyone tried Fabregas as a Trequartista with any success (screen shots would be great) or can I be given some advice on how to get the best from Fabregas. I know from reading about the Trequartista role that the player does not get involved in defending. I would also like to know how to sep up the team that the lack of defensice cover from the Treqartista does not affect the team
Also I would like some help with Jack Wilshere. Most tactical forums are calling him a box to box midfielder but I am unsure about this because he does not seem to have the attributes to play as a box to box midfielder. I do not want to play him as an advance playmaker support because I feel that he will ignore is defence duty and get to involved in the attacking phase of the play. The only other option would be to play him as a Central Midfielder Support and, create a double pivot in midfield with Alex Song who would be set as a Central Midfielder Automatic.
I also read that you should have on of your Midfielders set to a Central Midfielder Automatic role because that is how the AI sets up the midfield. I am no tactical expert and I do not have a clue how to read AI tactics. My question to the forum and to those who have a very good in depth knowledge would be able to further explain to me if the AI actually uses that tactical approach.
I know the orginal question was playing Cesc Fabregas as a Trequartista and not how to set up Jack Wilshere and Alex Song in Midfield but this is also an area that I struggle with. If anyone got some advice on playing Song and Wilshere with Central Midfielder duties please let me know or advice on creating a double pivot. I have read Lucatonix thread on creating the triple pivot and it is very good but I really want to learn how to create the double pivot that was played by Germany in World Cup 2010.
So please guys help a fellow FMer to start enjoying the game again because right and I cannot understand how the game works no matter how much 3D matches I have watched

When you write about Trequarista you should imagine Totti(very skilled and creative attacker, but slightly lazy). Trequarista role is wasting Fabregas' teamwork and work rate(unless you manually adapt his mentality and closing down bars). I would say Adv Playmaker support or Box-to-Box are much better options for him(of course you should set his creativity bar to high). Actually you could use Van Persie as Treq behind the striker.
Jack Wilshere lacks good defensive attributes and you would rather use him as CM or Adv Playmaker with attack duty(like Iniesta). He is decent winger too(AML hugging the line or AMR cutting inside), especially when his training focus is speed.
Anyway, if you would like to recreate Germany's World Cup tactics with Arsenal, it might be something like this:

Fabianski
Sagna(FB support)---Squillaci----Vermaelen---Clichy(FB attack)
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------Fabregas(Box-to-Box)------Song(CM defend)-----------
Walcott(Winger attack)---RvP(Treq)---Nasri(Inside Fwd support)
-----------------------Chamakh(Targetman)-------------------

Of course, you should adjust manually the mentality, creativity, free role, runs from deep etc for all players. I would say stick to Balanced scheme, high creativity, shorter passing and mixed marking. Germany played more controlled football, their left winger(Podolski) wasn't inside fwd, they didn't press much(stand-off), zonal marking(at least it looked like it on the TV as far as I remember), but if you play that way with Arsenal you might get some problems vs. compact, defensive minded, teams(just like Germany had with Ghana(or whatever the team that beat them in the group phase was)).

This is my advice, never managed Arsenal but I think it will work well ;)

well according to the player role calculator Fabregas' best position is trequartista

The Player Role Calculator isn't completely accurate, and certainly doesn't tell you whether a player will play well there, just that his stats suit the position reasonably well. As a trequartista, fabregas would just be floating around inbetween defence and midfield looking for space, and when he gets the ball, he will be looking to run with it or play a pass through to the striker. however, another aspect of the trequartista's game is that they too can score goals, effectively being the second striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation, this is something that fabregas's skills do not suit very well, and something which is vitally important.

Advanced playmaker works for fabregas bang in the centre of midfield with either fellaini or moussa sissoko partnering him as cm-defensive. what ive found is if ur other advanced players have good enough movement off the ball he'll find them. but the main thing is ensuring hes got a physical dm next to him with a high work rate and tackling to sort shizz out when things get too hairy. If hes still playing **** have a private chat with him after a few bad performances in a row but take into account his personality and your reputation when choosing your words!!! By the way guiseppe Rossi works a treat as a trequartista.
