Hi all

I want to create my own philosophy my idea is to comibine possession, counter attacking and high pressing

For high pressing do I set TI to Closed down much more and attacking, because counter mentality got men behind the ball instead of pressing. Also I wont have to set all the OI to close down always would I ?

For counter attacking i was thinking of set of PI to more direct passing??

Set it to close down much more if thats what you want them to do, you also dont want all players set to more direct passing - you dont want a centre back launching the ball forward imo.

What about the OI I remember last year you had to set every player close down always

Well, it depends what your trying to do again - if you have your defenders set to close down they will close down but if your against a good team they will pass around them and leave you exposed - visualise this, a defensive team players further back to your goal, counter a little further forward than defensive, standard middle of the pitch, control just into the opp half and attack will be further forward - that should give you some idea of how to set up the position of your whole team, if your gonna be on attack and have your centre backs closing down if your opp pass around them you are goosed, i would get the strikers involved and maybe two of the midfield to close down much more and set the others to close down less so you keep some sort of shape.

the whole point of counter attacking is to draw them onto you and then quickly exploit space behind them....if you close down early, you will win the ball high up, when opponent is in their own third, so it makes no sense to counter, as you simply don't have the space required....you can of course order your team to do exactly that, but don't expect results...

exactly this, its hard to work out what hes trying to do isnt it? i dont think he really knows judging by the initial post because as you say counter is hitting teams on the break once there is space in behind them to do so.

Yes it sounds confusing granted, How to explain it, example from corner i always keep one man edge 3 men forward, when defending i would like to counter attack like Man united did against arsenal, but if the counter is not on i wanted to patiently move the ball tiring the opposition waiting for the right chance to present itself, I also believe in if you have the ball your not going to lose thats why I press high win the ball back if there is a direct counter attack go for it if not rest on the ball and passing it round.....
