Being a tynesider is a funny business- one minute you're celebrating a massive win over one of the big 4 the next your despairing over a derby day hammering to Sunderland. What really grinds my bones is the lacklustre effort coming from the present day squad, you have 52,000 passionate fans turning up each home game spurring you on but yet more often than not they go missing and we eventually get thrashed. For some unknown reason it's these horror shows that keeps me going as not just a Newcastle fan but as a football fan in general, yes, you could go the easy option and follow Man utd or Chelsea but where is the fun in that? Theses defeats make the wins more special and meaningful than winning week in and week out. I'm not saying I love to lose but winning feels all that better when you've lost some aswel.
Then there is pardew!
I can can take the odd 3-0 battering to Chelsea or Liverpool but when you are losing like this every week and especially to the Mackems twice it just kills you inside. In the pre-season before the 2014/2015 season Alan Pardew had brought in an influx of new faces after a dismal second half of the season which saw dreamboat midfielder Yohan Cabaye leave for the French capital. This for the board and the adoring fans of the club was not good enough and Pardew was given the boot at St.James park. The question now hung over the river Tyne- who will be the next gaffer at Newcastle? Well this is where the story begins...
30th June 2014- Newcastle upon Tyne
"It's Germany who progress to the quarter finals of the 2014 World Cup where they will play France"
So the Germans were in the quarter finals hey- to be fair I tip them to win it not Brazil. I got up from the couch and grabbed a nice cool Budweiser, I grabbed the remote and flicked over to sky sports news where the main coverage was on the days World Cup fixtures and who will be the new Newcastle boss after pardews sacking 3 days ago. The media had thrown David moyes as the favourite with Steve Bruce of all people just behind him. In my hand my phone buzzed with the name "Davo" on my screen. He worked for newcastle united as a board member and I was lucky enough to be his mate and get all the inside gossip at the club I love. "Hello" There was a two second pause before I heard a voice down the wire. "Christian stay calm but I think you may be the next manager of Newcastle united"
what.
I immediately answered back to this madness "Have you been drinking?"
"No mate I seriously have got you an interview with Ashley tomorrow at noon, I told him all about your love for the game and the toon plus you certainly know your footy. Just go down tomorrow mate and see what happens-bye"
and just like that I was left to ponder about what I had just heard and whether or not he was taking the **** there, was this real?
