July 2nd 2014:
I was trapped in the world of the internet, I was browsing sky sports trying to keep up to date with the footballing world and trying to keep myself involved in the sporting world. One word caught my eye, It had always caught my eye and my attention. Sassuolo. Being Italian bread and Sassuolo born, I was surround by football from the minute I was born. Being brought up in Italy my football love affair started at the age of 5 and was shortly followed by the start of my relationship with Sassuolo. By 10 I was consistently attending 5 - 10 games a season and at 18 I was buying season tickets, however we had taken a two year break as I was trying to focus on gaining my coaching badges but I continued to keep a track over their results as above all they were my team and a huge part of my life. Anyway, since the sacking of Eusebeo Di Francesco, articles have be popping up all over sky sports as to who would be the latest manager. I tried to keep track as many managers including myself were after this job and I knew
that my chances of actually getting it were very slim but you I decided to be optimistic. This latest article was entitled, U.S Sassuolo: In-depth on Candidates. I scrolled through and to my absolute amazement I read something that had completely shocked me.
Candidate 5: Lazzari Monzazzoli - 50/1
Who the **** is he? An extremely inexperienced manager who is not known by anyone in the footballing world outside of Sassuolo. He is a home grown boy and has been a life long fan of the club. He recently gained his coaching badge and will be looking for his first job in Football. It would be a surprise if he would be the man to get the job but if they decided to stick with a home boy then he could be the man.
Well the odds weren't great but at least I knew I had been acknowledged by the Sassuolo board and was being considered at least slightly.
My eyes switched the bottom right of my screen. 10:47pm. Not got much else to be doing right now so I may as well caught on some sleep. I was heading for the shower when I heard a ring. My phone vibrated and it was an unknown number.
LM: Hello.... who is this?
U.S S: Hello I am the chairman of U.S Sassuolo Calcio.
LM: Oh.. Sorry yes hello, How may I help you.
U.S S: Yes are you Mr. Monzazzoli.
LM: Yes I am, what can I do for you.
U.S S: We are calling as we would like to offer you an interview for the Sassuolo job.
LM: Thank you I would love that but why me?
U.S S: We are currently looking to stick to our roots and who better than a home-grown man.
LM: Thank you so much
U.S S: It's only an interview, but we would like you to make your way to the Board office tomorrow at 10:00am.
LM: Ok, I will meet you there, Goodbye.
-*Call Ends*-
Now I had a reason for getting an early night but after that phone call, I am not sure if I could any now.
