Personally I would set your expectations as top half finish at a minimum, and potentially go for European qualification as you have the makings of a decent squad although your transfer budget only increases by £300k so probably isn’t worth it. I wouldn’t go any higher than that first season though, try and be realistic.

Brief History

Udinese Calcio is an Italian football club based in Udine, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and currently plays in the Serie A. Founded in 1896, Udinese is the second oldest club in the Serie A, after Genoa C.F.C..

The traditional team home kit is black and white striped shirt, black shorts, and white socks. The club plays in the Stadio Friuli, which has a capacity of 41,652.

Honours:

UEFA Intertoto Cup: 1
2000
Mitropa Cup: 1
1980
Anglo-Italian Cup: 1
1978
Coppa Italia Primavera: 1
1993
Campionato Nazionale Primavera: 1
1981
Coppa Italia Serie C: 1
1978
Campionato Primavera di serie B: 1
1964

As you can see Udinese have not won a lot during there 115 year history, the club trophy cabinet has a lot of empty space for you to fill!

Backroom Staff

Assistant Manager(s):
- Richard Barral
- Diego Bortoluzzi

Now first of all, no team needs two assistant managers and to be honest they’re both pretty average/rubbish. Terminate Richard Barral’s contract and if you can afford to I’d get rid of Bortoluzzi as well.

Potential Replacements:
- Massimo Neri
- Al Stewart

Coaches:
- Paolo Artico
- Adelio Diamante

Not exactly blessed with quantity or quality. I’d personally get rid of both.

Potential Replacements:
- Gianpiero Ventro
- Massimo Neri
- Marco Rota

Fitness Coaches:
- Lorenzo Di Iorio
- Claudio Bordon

Both are poor fitness coaches, I’d probably get rid of both. Di Iorio has a 20 rating for Goalkeeping though and Udinese do not currently have a GK coach so you could offer him a contract as a GK coach.

Potential Replacements:
- Paul Winsper
- Gianni Nani Bisciotti
- Fabio Marseredjian

Goalkeeper Coaches:
- None

Udinese currently have no goalkeeper coach. A cost effective solution would be to make Lorenzo Di Iorio a GK coach, however there are better ones out there.

Potential Replacmenets:
- Joop Hiele
- Ray Clemence
- Michelangelo Rampulla

Youth Coaches:
- Fabio Fiore
- Paolo Cudia
- Fabio Rositto

Fiore is pretty average, Cudia is a good youth coach. Rositto is terrible and should have his contract terminated.

Potential Replacements:
- Brian Eastick
- Bernhard Peters

Physios:
- Jovan Mihaljcic
- Claudio Rigo
- Marco Zilli
- Ignacio Sitges
- Andrea Condolo
- Nicola D’Orlandi
- Maurizio *** (LOL)
- Aldo Passelli

As you can see, Physio is not a position where you are short of numbers. The board suggests you should have 2 physios and Udinese currently have 8. I’d therefore advise getting rid of all of them apart from Sitges and Passelli.

Scouts:
- Gabriel Wainer
- Ernesto Varnier
- Angelo Trevisan
- Geronimo Barbadillo
- Richard
- Roberto Policano

You currently have 6 scouts but are allowed 9. Of the ones you currently have I’d keep them all apart from Trevisan and Policano.

Potential Replacements/Additions:

- Romeo Jozak
- Thomas Niendorf
- Furio Valcareggi
- Aldo Cantarutti

Squad

First Team:

I’m going to break it down into positions and give recommendations for possible ins/outs and replacements.

Goalkeepers:

View attachment 143142

- Samir Handanovic
- Emanuele Belardi
- Jan Koprivec

Samir Handanovic is your obvious first choice Goalkeeper here, a good shot stopper and at 25 has a good 10 years left in him. Emanuele Belardi is your second choice keeper and is also pretty good, however he starts the game injured for around 2 months. Jan Koprivec is a young ‘keeper at only 21 years of age. He’s one potentially for the future.

Ins: N/A
Out: N/A

Defenders:

View attachment 143139

- Damiano Ferronetti
- Mehdi Benatia
- Maurizio Domizzi
- Gabriele Angella
- Andrea Coda
- Christian Zapata
- Joel Ekstrand
- Giovanni Pasquale
- Pablo Armero
- Mauricio Isla
- Dusan Basta

Defensive Udinese have some pretty good players. Your best central defenders will be Zapata, Benatia and Coda. Ekstrand is decent cover and Angella is a decent youth prospect. Domizzi is also decent cover, but is getting on a bit age wise so look for another backup sooner rather than later.

As for full backs, Isla and Armero would be your first choice. Armero just getting the nod over Pasquale due to the fact he is quicker. Pasquale is your back up left back and Basta and Ferronetti are your back up right backs although both start the game injured.

Advice: Retrain Isla as a right back so he becomes natural.
Ins: Sime Vrsaljko, Rafael Toloi
Outs: Domizzi, Basta or Ferronetti in January once they’ve recovered from injury

Midfielders:

View attachment 143136

- Giampero Pinzi
- Emmanuel Badu
- Cristian Battochio
- Juan Guilermo Cuadrado
- Kwadwo Asamoah
- Gokhan Inler
- Matej Vydra
- Alexis Sanchez
- Almen Abdi

A pretty strong set of midfielders here with Inler, Asamoah and Sanchez being your stand out players. Asamoah is a very good box to box midfielder as is Inler who can also be played as a ball winning midfielder. Alexis Sanchez needs no introduction. In Badu and Battochio you have two very promising defensive midfielders and Matej Vydra has the potential to be a world class winger. The one area that the midfield is lacking in is a left winger.

Advice: Retrain Sanchez as an AML so you can use him as an inside forward.
Ins: Andreas Ivanschitz, Anthony Mounier, Diego Biseswar, Miralem Sulejmani, Mark Gonzalez, Balazs Dzsudzsak
Out: Giampero Pinzi, Almen Abdi

Forwards:

View attachment 143137

- Antonio Di Natalie
- Bernardo Corradi
- German Denis
- Leo Steve Beleck
- Youssou
- Mohammed Gulraiz

Arguably the weakest area of the squad, Antonio Di Natalie stands out a mile and is a very good striker but at 34 is getting on a bit and will need replacing very soon. Bernardo Corradi is also old and not that good. German Denis starts the game injured for a couple of months and is decent backup. The other three are decent youth prospects.

Ins: Garra Dembele, Vaclav Kadlec, Jelle Vossen
Out: Bernardo Corradi

Tactics

With the current squad of players I’d say the team is most suited to a 4-5-1, one you get in a good left winger. One that I would advise is one I created and used with many teams and been successful.

Here it is if you want to plug and play:

So guys, there you have it. Hope it wasn't too laborious to read and that someone out there actually finds it useful. Any questions/comments/feedback are more than welcome. I hope some of you will enjoy playing as this great little team as much as me.

Yours in FM,

can one of the Mods change it to 'a' instead of 'an' in the title of the thread please? Was a typo and it's bugging me! Cheers.

Good guide. I have always had respect for Udinese, and their tactical approaches. Alexis Sanchez is a great player.
