My world class right back became unsettled 2 seasons ago and has been unhappy since then. I was ok with that and i thought that he would eventually sign a new contract but he hasnt and now hes only got 12 months left , i seriously dont want to sell this guy. Does anyone know how i can get him to re-sign - help!.

I'd play him for starters. if you're lucky in his profile there's an option to solve a problem. did he say anything to you or in the media about his dssatisfaction?

Im playing him , thats not the issue , he says he wants a new chalenge. Its Mark hughes that keeps flattering him , so hes now one of his favoured personell. I cant use the 'resove issue' option because its not there. Seriously this guy has 180 something CA . Hes the best right back ive ever seen.

maybe you should try hunting down mark hughes and killing him...

Yeh but i cant find the option to do that :P . The guy hates me too i was international manager for England and Brazil at different times and each time he wouldnt release his players to me. I dont know how he even keeps his job , buying overated players for top doller and in my 10 seasons on the game hes only won the Euro ( UEFA) cup once.

Sorry m8 there's no solution. Eventually after 2 months or so the player will get tired of complaining and then he would be happy again.
I once did something...i don't no if it was a bug or not but i sold my player that was unhappy, and in the time to confirm the transfer i cancel it and i was saying that he was going to prove his loyalty to the club and he aws happy...you could try but no certains.

Cheers m8

Well if he only has 12 months on his contract and you cant find a way to make him happy and get him a new contract my advice would be to sell him to man city,as you said he pays way to much for players, so if you sell him now you get the money and you dont ahve to see him leave for free.

Sell him for a small sum . Keep a Buy Back option in place . Add a huge 'After 10 League games' fee ... Buy him back next season ...

whatever he`s worth double it and offer him to clubs city will probley match it! bite the bullet and make some $!

Hey thanks for all the tips , the guys a regen actually i got him from Derry city would you believe. I got him to re - sign , i offered him to clubs to see what would happen and i got a few big offers. After i did this he suddenly decided to 'prove his worth to the team ' which was sweet, ill sell him when hes 30- 31 tho like i always do :P.
Ill try what you said rajeev on another player lol , sounds like a good idea. One more thing though , never sell your best young players to man city ( regardless of the fee)its football suicide.

See man! Then it wasn't a bug after all XD

I made Marquinos unhappy because i offered him to clubs , after that he scored 5 goals in 2 games so i decided to keep him a big longer :).

You should sell him unless you want him to leave on a free. You should offer him to some clubs, but higher that his official price. Make sure though that you change his status straight after offering him to other clubs.

Oh yeah there's a very simple solution to stop your star players leaving. WIN TROPHYS! :)

I dont think that this is the issue. I have a game in 2032 with Spurs. My right back has been at Spurs since 2025. Thats 8 years. I took over Spurs 3 years ago and it took me 3 years to win my first title. I won 2 FA Cups and a League Cup along the way.

In the season where I won the title the player (Van Vingh) said he "wanted a new challenge". I led him to his FIRST premiership and its not enough. The guy is 31 years old and I gave him 2 FA Cups, a League Cup and a Premiership in 3 seasons when he had achieved nothing with Spurs beforehand.

I released him free transfer in the end. Squad harmony and resolving issues is one of my strenghts in FM but I also am unsure how to deal with a vague "wants new challenge" issue. I think either have him moping about it or let him go.

Yea i hate that one , i think people actually get carried away thinking that these players have real feelings though. Its a random generated by the program, if i have any unhappy players now i offer them to clubs. Alot of the time the player changes his mind and wishes to stay , then its just a case of offering them new contracts etc.
