I've been experimenting with tactics designed to make my team (Zakynthos in the Greek second tier) difficult to mark. The challenge I set myself was to find a way to accommodate:
  • a libero
  • a roaming playmaker
  • a wide target man
  • a raumdeuter
  • a false 9 or trequartista
The formation I've used in the end is:

GK
Libero
FB + CB + FB
Half back
CM attack + roaming playmaker
WTM (on same side as centre mid attack) + raumdeuter
F9

My initial experiences are:
1. it's too attacking for some situations
2. having only one CB introduces a vulnerability
3. but the formation is great fun and produces some fantastic fluid football with great passing moves.
Overall I've found it quite captivating. One idea I'm toying with is to use it for special occasions e.g. cup matches so the opposition isn't expecting it.

A difficulty is obviously finding the players. I often play with a libero, so that was covered. For many of the other roles I didn't have any obvious candidates, so I simply tried to work out the best fits between players' attributes and the demands of the various roles. I disregarded players' usual positions. This led to many surprises - for example, my LB becoming a roaming playmaker, a RB and a DLP becoming raumdeuters - and some surprising successes.

I've been trying myself to make a tactic with a libero and only one CB. Its pretty difficult, but not imposibble to create fine results. It wont be a killer plug and play tactic, but it will be a fun tactic to watch, like you wrote yourself.

Would love to try your tactic at some point :)
