Hey,

I've noticed that the way FM sets an "Advanced Playmaker" doesn't tick "Roam from position" or more affectionately known as "free role". In all my days of playing FM free role was seen to be a must tick for all smart and creative players i.e playmakers. Have they changed this for this version?

So the question is, do you allow your Playmaker to roam? Or do you keep it on the new FM default?

Thanks in advance.

Well you dont have to give playmakers free roles. All a free role means, is that the player can roam more from his position to find space to receive a pass, it doesnt mean he neglects all your tactics.

Sometimes if youre trying to add flair into your attack, you will want him to roam, however his position and stats can affect this.

Example, if I play arshavin as a playmaker in AMC, i always give him free role, but usually my playmaker is cesc fabregas and I never let him roam because his position in the middle of the field adds stability. Also in games where youre hanging desperately for a lead, you wouldnt want to give too many players a free role, so that your players dont leave holes for the opposition to exploit.

Anyway this is how i see it, hope it helps.

Yeah I hear that, thanks.

i never use Playmakers in Fm10, they never work for me at all, my playmaker always ends up with low 6's ratings.
as mentioned above, not all Playmakers need to have free roles, i have had one of my DMC to be my playmaker but anchors in the Midfield too...

i use the playmake role, but never set anyone as a specific playmaker. and i dont give them free roles

oh no, my two Cm are both Advanced Playmakers one attack and one support, however i do not use the Team instrcution set playmaker and choose a specific person ;) just thought i would clear that up and as well as using Rosina as Advanced playmaker attack as my Amr too

i play gourcuff as adv pm in mc. 20 goals, 23 assists

What annoys me about this, is when you view roaming on tactics, it shows you the creativity stat of all the players, which kind of means that creativity is the main attribute to look at when choosing whether to give a player a free role. Now the way I see it, your playmaker would be probably the most creative player on your team, so I don't see the game maker's logic here.
