Inspired by Vålerenga's 4-1 win over city rivals Lyn FC, the first time we've beaten them since 1981, I decided to have a go as Vålerenga. Vålerenga goals here (third one's glorious): http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/f20/v-lerenga-4-lyn-fc-1-t20946.html
Vålerenga had their most recent glory in the years from 2004-2006, where they came 2nd, 1st, and 3rd respectively, under the leadership of Kjetil Rekdal and later under Martin Andresen. They dislodged RBK, the Tippeliga's reigned champions for the past 13 years to do so. Their most famous players these days are probably Egil "Drillo" Olsen, who has led Norway to beat teams such as Brazil, taken Norway to the World Cup in '94 by beating England and Holland at home. He also saved Vålerenga from relegation just before this. He is currently managing Norway's national side again, after the two previous managers cocked-up. Erik "Panzer" Hagen is probably the most loved player currently playing for Vålerenga. He's famous for creating things such as his 2004 "hate-list," a list of players he was out to get, causing Klanen (Vålerenga's supporter club) to chant "your on Panzer's list" to truely terrify opposition players. He's also famous for saying that it was a relief when he finally got a yellow card following a period of not getting any bookings at all. He's also played for Zenit and Wigan. Other notable former players are Ronny Johnsen and Henning Berg (of Manchester United fame), Steffen Iversen (of Tottenham fame) and fostering John Carew. Other notable fans are Morten Gamst Pedersen who currently plays for Blackburn.
My first signings were basically to ensure I had a decent defense, as it severely aging with Hagen, dos Santos, Jepsen and most of them getting on. My attack was pretty solid, so i decided not to buy anyone for that purpose, but my midfield could definitely do with some reinforcements. I do have some somewhat promising youngsters, so it's not all bad news.
I optimistically told the board I'd win the league to get a bit more cash to splash on transfers, though it was tough to get anyone to Vålerenga, so even if I had the money, I wouldn't necessarily have the reputation, but not to worry, that'll be remedied shortly. I decided to use Tylerbode's tactics, as my recent ones have been a touch off... My pre-season friendlies were somewhat uplifting, even though the defeat to Nybergsund did sting, but the only real test was Brann, which ended with Enga winning 2-0. I did use one helluva lot of youngsters during the friendlies, as I might need to phase them in shortly in case of injuries, which also reflected on the scores.
Moussa Guindo was signed to fix my soon-to-be left back problem. Jepsen is 31 and will need replacing soon, and Joakim Eyde isn't good enough yet. Forren will do the job for now, as he can play both centre back and full back and is already a fan favourite. I signed Kevin Barré, a somewhat promising Frenchman, to provide some additional coverage at the back. Sandro's normally a defensive midfielder, but his centre back attributes are excellent, so currently training him to play there as well. Kristian Thune and Jaroslaw Tomczyk (Polish regen) are my two new youngsters (they're both 15!), and in a few years I think they'll be excellent players, with the fans embracing Jaroslaw immediately alongside Forren! Marvin Angulo Bourbon is the solution to my right back problem, as he's able to play both there and as a right midfielder!
My staff was a huge problem. My assistant manager is awful, I don't really have enough coaches (allowed 6) and not enough money to really make any major changes. I fired my assistant manager, got Al Stewart from Manchester City to basically do team talks and handle the press with his 19 in both motivation and man management. To handle my training I gave a few of my youth coaches full coach deals, even though my coaching quality isn't exactly good, the workload's at least light on the coaches. Scouts were also a problem, with my best coach now having 11/12 in the relevant stats. Now I'm hoping some extra renown will allow me to attract somewhat better players and staff in not too long.
For databases I basically loaded anything from Romania to Brazil, so anyone you suggest I'll have a look at, but please be realistic, and don't suggest Skjelbred or Reginiussen, as they're not interested=)
A quick update on Vålerenga

Rivals
Brann
Brann
The team from Bergen isn't too hated by the majority of Vålerenga's supporters. They are likely to be the toughest team to play of the rivals, and are therefore an obstacle each year.
Lillestrøm (LSK)
"Har du traktor og ljå, heier du på LSK" is the slogan used to describe Lillestrøm supporters. It translates to "If you've got a tractor and scythe, you support LSK." Disliked by the urban folk of Vålerenga, these peasants and farmers from just outside Oslo turned up to the last game with a banner running for the entire width of the pitch saying "VIF BURN IN ****."
Lyn
If crooked lawyers and corrupt bankers supported a football team, it'd be Lyn. Known as the only team that can have 50 supporters in suits turn up to games, they're the Oslo rivals. Having been recently promoted to the premier league they have only recently built up a fierce rivalry with VIF, though until last weekend VIF hadn't beaten them since 81.
Enter the Drunk
Charles Webb was once a burgeoning Norwegian left back of part Scots heritage, but after a few too many nights out in "Glesga," and an unfortunate gardening accident that people still speak of in hushed tones to this day, he dropped out of sight for a few years, but recently came back to take over Vålerenga! Klanen is happy about the new manager, as he's taken up residence in Vålerenga Gata (Vålerenga Street), drinks in Vertshuset and Bohemen (Vertshuset is the local Vålerenga pub, and Bohemen is the official supporter pub), but how long will their happiness last if his management doesn't yield results?
His background is as a Celtic player alongside Alasdair Munroe, also known as McMurder. McMurder once picked up the ball with his teeth and ran into goal with it during an international game. The duo was also known for their nights out in Glasgow, where they'd commit all the 7 deadly sins and break 6 of the Commandments in one night. Both being Catholics they decided to go to confession, eventually travelling to the Vatican. Arriving in Vatican City they both got hammered and Charles proceeded to rub his belly against several nuns, proclaiming his tummy was Jesus and Jesus loved everyone. Their somewhat rough style of playing is said to have inspired Vinnie Jones to new heights (or lows).
