First post, long timer reader...

Value for money isn't always about finding free/next-to-nothing players; it can also be true that spending 10million is good value for money.

From what I've seen in FM11 there is a lot more potential to acquire quality players at reasonable (ie matching real-life) sums. By this I mean a lot of transfers around the 10-15million mark that are good enough to be first-team standard in the best clubs in the world. Here are a couple of examples of players that are a lot better than their price tag indicates.

Alejandro Gomez - Catania
Age: 22
Available for: Probably around £10million, although has only recently joined Catania so may need to wait a season.

An excellent Argentinian AMC prospect, excels at running directly at the enemy back line and threading passes through. Ideal with a quick poacher in front of him and running with him. Think of him as a poor man's Messi.

Arturo Vidal - Leverkusen
Age: 23
Available for: 10million

Small Chilean DMC who possesses great technical and mental attributes. Ratings of 14, 15 and 16 in marking, passing and tackling at the start of the game indicate what he is capable of. Useful for his passing ability to win balls in midfield and carry on the play; unusual for a DM!

Douglas Costa - Shaktar
Age: 19
Available for: 12million

First brought to my attention when Sunderland bought him, I was immediately struck by his excellent free kick, long shot, dribbling and technique stats, as well possessing flair and pace aplenty. This Brazilian AMC R/L seems to be a younger version of Diego, and a real bargain for his talent! Definitely able to be a star player for years to come.

Miralem Pjanic - Olympique Lyonnaise
Age: 20
Available for: 15million

A little on the pricey side, but still a fantastic bargain when you think of the many years he will fill the club's playmaker role. This Bosnian marvel walked into my Liverpool side and over 50 games had 25 assists and 12 goals; not bad for a debut season at his tender age! Simply marvelous.

What other players would you class as correctly priced but absolutely amazing? The few above are the match of players 2 or 3 times their asking price and young enough to make up the money spent on them.

Thanks for a decent first post :)

I would say having seen Costa play, he is more of a winger than a playmaker like Diego, but i guess in time we will see what type of player he turns into.

Marek Hamsik can be bought for around £20 million and is worth every penny, the best all round centre mid in the world after a while.

Rodwell is a very good long term investment for £15 million. A capable long term replacement for Rio, and can easily be United's answer to Hargreaves crocked knees straight away and for many seasons to come.

I don't play that much FM outside of LLM, but having a Man Utd file on the go to get used to the new game has taught me that much about those two.

Eden Hazard and Javier Pastore.
£14m for Hazard (inc. sell on clause)
£17.5m for Pastore.
Both had incredible seasons for me in 2011/12.

Hamsik, rodwell, hazard are the three outstanding buys in this game in my opinion

Steven Defour - Standard Leige (£8m) - DMC/MC
Age: 22
A target of R.Madrid and Man United in real life, £8m isn't a bad buy. He can play at both DMC and, when retrained, AMC, but he's best played at MC. Not really the best defensive player, but look at his mental attributes!

Victor Moses - Wigan (£6m) - AMRLC/ST
Age: 19
A future buy, this one. Can play on either wing or up front, but I've tended to play him on the right. Not a bad finisher and pacy, but other parts of his game still need to be worked on.

Vaclav Kadlec - Sparta Prague (£4m) - ST
Age: 18
This guy has a release clause of £8m, so I'm happy for buying at half of that. Can't speak english, which could cause a few problems, but can finsh quite well. Has quite a good head for movement and can finish, but his composure is lower than I'd expected. Another future buy.

Jack Rodwell - Everton (£17.75m) - DC/DMC/MC
Age: 19
I'm sure everyone already knows about this guy. Good DC, even better DMC/MC.

Fabio Coentrao - Benfica (£9m) - D/WB/M/AML
Age: 22
This guy is a natural at either DL or AML, but he can also play at the other two positions on the flank. He has great stats and was quite cheap. As a full back, he's very attacking, with great attributes for crossing, pace, acceleration and dribbling. Not a bad defender too.

Coentrao is brilliant, similar type player to Gareth Bale.

Thanks for the suggestions; the point about Coentrao vs Bale is a good one. What's better value for money, £9m or £30m? Hazard vs Ozil... Pjanic/Hamsik/Pastore vs Fabregas/Montolivio... the list goes on.

In addition, if you factor in how much you could gain from selling the player in 3-5 years and how much their contribution to you as a club has been worth the gap opens wider. I'm currently looking for information to enable me to try and keep a team competitive at the highest level with decent but value for money players than can be sold on in fairly short fashion to recoup their costs and generate money. As such any further information/views as above is very welcome.

Cheers.

lukaklu can be brought £6.5m
Kadlec for £1.8m
after brought these 2 for my arsenal save and as they are 17 & 18 I can hope to sell them (if i want to ) at a very good profit.
