I'm playing FM10 with United and have these two in defence but I've been conceding far too many goals. So I was wondering how best should I partner these? Who should be the stopper? Cover? Should they zonal amrk or man mark?

Basically does ANYONE out there know how to turn these two into immovable, impenetrable, solid, rock-like b*astards?

Any help will be appreciated :) Thanks in advance.

Vidic: Central defender - Stopper
Ferdinand: Ball playing defender - Cover

Ferdinand - Ball Playing Defender (Cover)
Vidic - Central Defender (Stopper)

Man-Marking.

Ensure they pick up goal threats during set pieces.

1. why don't you post on your thread HERE
2. I think this wrong section

1. He's asking a specific, detailed question relating to two players, not the team as a whole.
2. This section is fine. If you're going to play the mini-moderator, at least get things right, not to mention you didn't actually contribute anything with your post.

As Billy and Joel have said, Vidic as a CB - Stopper and Ferdinand as a BPCB - Cover seems to work best. If this doesn't work, look at other areas of your team, it may be unbalanced and lightweight defensively. If not, look at how you have been conceding in order to give you a clue.

It's mostly through balls, missed interceptions, short backpasses, indecision due to lack of communication and shots from outside the box. No one seems to know how to close down. I'vve set ''stand-off more'' to keep team shape and zonal marking. Still conceding.

Do you have Vidic as a stopper? He generally mops up interceptions for me. Short back passes are mistakes, you have bigger issues than tactics if you're regularly conceding by them. Perhaps you should press more if you want to prevent long shots?

If he's playing Fm10 surely Stopper and Cover roles are useless because they're not in Fm10? Or are they... I'm sure player roles was an FM11 feature though?

No mate I don't use the cover/stopper combination. Its set on ''defend''. The fact that I conceded 5 to Real got me worried. They had so many clear cut chances, the amount of one on ones Benzema had was unbelievable. And Ronaldo ran riot

Interesting... sounds like you might need to press more, if you're conceding from through balls and shots outside the box. If you play a higher tempo pressing game, that will give the opposition midfielders less time to play the pass.

No, they were in FM10.

If you're playing attacking football, you have to push up your defensive line and let your centre backs close down higher on the pitch. Don't be affraid, with Vidic and Ferdinand most of the times they will win the ball back.
