VILNIAUS ŽALGIRIS

History : Vilniaus Žalgiris is a Lithuanian football clupm playing in the capital, Vilnius. They have won Lithuanian Championship 5 times, Lithuanian Cup 8 times, Baltic League 2 times and Supercup 4 times. Founded in 1947, they are playing in LFF stadium, who has a capacity of 5000 sits.

Tactics : In Lithuanian league we will try to dominate each game. We are the strongest team in the competition, I think we could have best possesion of the ball in every game. When Europe games will come, against strongest team we will play patience, and try to counter-attack.

Friendly games : I think it will be a verry good preparation for the season. We will play against 3 better teams then us : Sparta Prague, Victoria Plzen and Partizan.

Transfers :

During the January transfers window, Žalgiris was verry active. 1rst coming is a young Italian player, invested for the future M.Pintus. He played last year in Lithuanian A lyga, in 9 games he scored 1 goal. The second signing is M.Kovacevic. He played last year in Lithuanian A lyga also, where he did 24 appearences. Also he has 2 national selection appearences. It's a good player for the short future. Then we have a verry good N.Valskis,who scored 27 goals in 30 appearences with Lithuanian team - Sudūva. L.Madera comes from Argentina's All Boys team. A good talented young player for the future. N.Riley comes from Scottish League 1, we have lot of hopes on this player. The last but not the worst M.Stanaitis comes to Žalgiris from Poland 2nd division.

Žalgiris is happy to anounce that they have found an senior affiliate team from Ukraine, Dynamo Kyiv. These two teams has good relationships since 1947, but they have made it official only right now. It's a big step in our long friendship story.

Good luck for A.Jankauskas at Illichivets. The player wanted some new challange. Žalgiris sold the player for 57k. We wish him all the best in his new club, and we thank him for all long years at Žalgiris.

We started Lithuanian league with 4 hard games. First off all, away game with our big concurents for the tittle Sūduva. Things went good in the 1rst half, where we killed the suspense, and we started competition with a good win. Then it was home game against Ekranas. The game was more difficult than we thought. But in the 2nd half we were much better, and we took an important win at home. Third game away was against over rivals, Atlantas. We took a great win in a difficult game thanks to K.Andreou who made his first appearence. The last game against Kruoja was much easyer than expected. 3-0 win against the preavious leaders of competition, made us a big good, and took us to the head of competition.

T.Meidus : ''I'm verry happy with the start of the season. We had 4 verry difficult games, but players were ready, and we are unbeatten. Players did a great job, and we are confident on the future.''

Our stiker, A.Rocha had a verry good month, and did great performences scoring 3 goals & making 1 assist in 4 league games. He becamed a key player of the team, and confirmed his leader status.

The board are satisfied with my management of the team. Despite the positive's, the club's wage expenditure is still too high and I need to adress this.

3 important players, S.Klevinskas, S.Nyuiadzi and L.Pilibaitis, should not play next month with the team. Big looses when we see all the games we should play. Next to them, P.Janusauskas, will be absent also.

Next month we will see lot of games. 5 league games and 2 cup semi-final's legs against Kruoja. Of course, we expect to go into the final of the cup. In the league games, only 1 could make us some problems, it is the next game against Trakai. The positive thing is that they have confidence problems, because they are only in 7th place. From all the other games, i expect only the win.
