Wanna join a network game

Hey,

as you can see I wanna join a network game, but I´ve got a question. It is possible to play via Steam, isn´t it? As I read some threads, it seems your all playing via hamachi, and I thought "why"?
This question may seem dumb, but I´m a newcomer ;-)
