Hello all,

I'm here today to begin posting about my FM15 Pentagon Challenge attempt, I'm currently in my 2nd season but I'll be sure to post updates to show you what's happened so far.

If you have Facebook be sure to follow my save more closely here: https://www.facebook.com/WerrettFM
What is the Pentagon Challenge?

The Pentagon Challenge is a save designed to separate the best from the rest, the idea is to start as a manager with no experience and no coaching qualifications and go on to win the Champions Leagues across 5 continents: North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Can I take part?

You sure can! if you wish to attempt this challenge simply set-up a save that follows the respective rules and you're away! While this is a post about my attempt, feel free to post yours as well!

Other Rules:

In contrast to some other Pentagon Challenges, you can move teams if a job offer comes along that you consider a step-up, I still consider it to be a challenge raising your reputation up from the bottom and in doing so you deserve to increase your chances of completing the challenge.

For example, I'm managing in Hong Kong where it's almost impossible for me to win the Asian CL, it would take at least 10-15 years in which time I'd probably quit the save, thus if an offer comes in from Korea or China, I will take the job in order to better my chances at succeeding. (Like you would in real management).

I created my manager as myself (Alex Werrett) with English nationality. 20 years old with German as a second language, here are the managerial styles I set as proof that I respected the rules:

After simulating almost a year of the save, I finally got approached by a team.
Eastern AA, a small side from the premier division of Hong Kong who were currently sitting in 3rd.

I decided to take the job in order to try and raise my reputation before I move onto a bigger team in either Korea or China.

As you can see, Eastern AA are a team with a bit of history but no top tier league victories, they have very basic facilities which meant managing here would be a tough task.

I see this as a great chance to possibly further my reputation in Asia.

Moving on though, here is a look at the squad we had when we first took over at Eastern AA.

As you can see, we have a very bare-bones squad with a lack of quality besides a couple of positions. This was something that was required to be worked on, but at the same time remained a challenge due to the financial restrictions.

Despite this small squad we battled it out and before I knew it we were down to our last game, neck and neck with Kitchee after beating them 4-1 the game before, I was a nervous wreck!

However, we managed to win our first title following a win on the last day of the season against the team who were at the bottom, a very good performance and my first title handed to me on a silver plate!
(Funnily enough I took over when we were 2nd)

This means we qualify for the Asian CL! It'll be difficult but we'll give it a proper go!

That concludes my Season One summary.

Sorry for the lack of information on players, staff etc. As I only had 5-6 games to play to finish the first season I didn't keep tabs on the squad as I knew I would be making changes.

Season Two

Season Two!

With season one concluding we quickly headed into our second, the board setting our initial budgets (A very low amount) which meant we had no room to maneuver the market, were we going to be stuck with the same team again?

However, June hit and a lot of our existing squad were released following a mass overhaul of the league winning squad, I tried my best to keep hold of my best players but also decided to get rid of anyone I could replace, these are the results:

As you can see, a lot of deadwood was released.

Which ultimately left us with a much fresher, rounded squad.

Tactics

After developing my squad I decided to create a new tactic for our second season, below are the results!

The formation:

The instructions:

The idea behind this tactic was to create a possession based style of Football while remaining a threat on the attack, defending isn't at a very high standard in Hong Kong and I felt that trying to outscore opponents is the best way to approach the league.

However we battled our way through pre-season winning every match, very impressive from the new squad, but how would it carry over into the competitive scene?

First of all we had our FA Cup 1st round draw where we were handed a tough tie against South China, the richest club in Hong Kong by far! (Estimated value of £3.7m)

Very well as it goes! We won our season opener 5-0, a thumping effort with two of our new players bagging all 5 of the goals.

Xu Deshuai picked up a brace, our new left-winger who we signed on a free transfer after he was released by Kitchee and Chan Siu Ki picked up a hat-trick on his debut! The biggest signing (Wage wise) and our most highly reputed player who has 43 caps for Hong Kong, not a bad way to start!

Jumping forwards a bit, here is how things are looking after 5 games, a very impressive start!

Two of our new recruits have certainly lead the way from the front, Xu Deshuai has racked up 5 goals and 3 assists in 4 starts while Chan Siu Ki has scored 7 and set-up 3 in 5 games. They've really hit the ground running!

View attachment 329052

Siu Ki is certainly our most respected player with 33 goals in 44 appearances for Hong Kong, a valuable asset to any squad in this league!

And while Deshuai only has 15 apps for his Country he has certainly given the national manager something to think about.

We've been knocked out of the Senior Shield by Kitchee following a 2-1 defeat at home, shame we can't win the silverware but not too fussed overall as the board do not consider the tournament important.
