August 2009
This Month's Results
(Friendly)
West Ham 2-1 Pumas
Managers View - Another good Pre-Season result. All of these results are making me very confident ahead of the season. I feel that a few more signings should be made before our first Premier League game, but we can do it!
(Friendly)
AFC Sudbury 0-4 West Ham
Managers View - Our final friendly before the season begins, and this victory gives us the utmost confidence ahead of our first Premiership match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. The singings are still coming in, and players are still going out, but we should be finishing the deals before the Blackburn game hopefully.
(Barclays Premier League)
Blackburn Rovers 0-1 West Ham
Managers View - The season has finally got underway, and we got the result we were hoping for. Maybe another goal or 2 would have been better, but a win is a win, and i'll take that every time. A big well done to my boys!
(Barclays Premier League)
Sunderland 0-1 West Ham
Managers View - Second game of the season, and another win! How happy am I! I am so pleased, and now we sit 5th in the table. I won't be posting an image of the league table this month because I feel we haven't played enough games yet. Anyway, another good win, and that mid-table finish is defintely do-able!
(League Cup Round 2)
Brentford 1-5 West Ham
Managers View - Aha! Sorry Brentford fans, but that performance was appalling! I admit, there is a 2 division gap between us, but still, there was no effort from Brentford being put in. A magnificent display from our lads, and it could have so easily been 6, if Mark Noble didn't miss his penalty. Mark isn't too upset about it, because the rest of the boys netted 5 anyway. Very good result!
(Barclays Premier League)
West Ham 2-0 Everton
Managers View - 3 out of 3 in the league so far. I can't ask for anymore than that can I? I am so happy with my squad, I have promised them a curry tonight. Must dash, I am late already!
This Month's Transfers
-> Greg Halford - £2,100,000 from Wolverhampton Wanderers
Managers View - The right-back which I was in need of, we now own. Greg was not getting any football at Wolves, and so I decided that West Ham should be his next challenge. For a sum of £2,100,000, I do feel that Halford may be put under some pressure to perform well every game. Obviously I want this, but the pressure may cause mistakes, which could potentially lead to goals to the opposition. Well, we'll soon find out!
-> Paul Codrea - £1,000,000 from Siena
Managers View - The formation that I have employed at West Ham this season is a 4-1-1-2-2, featuring a defensive midfielder. The only DM we currently posses is Scott Parker. And although there is nothing wrong with Scott, we do need backup for his position. Paul Codrea was placed on the transfer list for £1,000,000, and it was a must buy for me. His set-piece taking is a major reason for the purchase.
-> Frank Fielding - £275,000 from Blackburn Rovers
Managers View - Frank is the backup keeper I was looking for. The only top class keeper we owned before the purchase of Frank was Rob Green. Rob is in my first team plans for the whole season, however if he suddenly get's injured, or sent-off, then we need a backup. We had 2 under 18 keepers as backup before, but I feel Frank has enough quality to be our backup for the season.
-> Ivelin Popov - £1,000,000 from Litex
Managers View - Popov certainly has the class and skill that our team was in need of. There was no positioning reason behind this purchase; I just saw the talent and snapped it up! Good buy in my opinion.
-> Emad Meteeb - £3,000,000 from Al-Ahly
Managers View - All of our strikers were somewhere around 30 years of age, and I felt that we needed a younger forward to help us on our way this year. I am hoping that Emad can be a big hit at West Ham, and although a fee of £3,000,000 was a bit steep, I am confident that he will be worth every penny come the end of the season.
<- Jonathan Spector - £1,500,000 to Benfica
Managers View - Spector was surpluss to requirments here at West Ham, and so I feel that selling was the right choice. £1,500,000 is a very good amount of money for the player.
<- Zavon Hines - £2,500,000 to Sampdoria
Managers View - Zavon is still very young, and he is a very good player! However, he did express a desire to leave the club, and therefore I felt that I should listen to what he wants, and sell. We got £2,500,000 for him, which is a very good deal for us, and Sampdoria.
<- Mark Noble - £4,000,000 to Sevilla
Managers View - Mark is a quality player, but we have better central midfielders at our squad now. For a fee of £4,000,000, both clubs have come out with a good deal. This had nothing to do with his penalty miss at Brentford by the way!
<- Andrea Zola - £90,000 to Reginna
<- Frank Nouble - £90,000 Loan to Blackpool
<- Manuel da Costa - Loan to Celtic
<- Fred Sears - Loan to Colchester
<- Daniel Kearns - Loan to Lincoln
<- Fabio Daprela - Loan to MK Dons
<- Winston Reid - £250,000 Loan to Hannover
<- Matthew Fry - Loan to Eastbourne Boro
<- Anthony Ashman - Loan to MK Dons
<- Benni McCarthy - £300,000 Loan to Hamburger SV
<- Daniel Gabbidon - £675,000 Loan to Osasuna
This Month's Overview
Fantastic month for West Ham. We have won every game this month, and made some very good signings too. I am looking forward to September very much, and I have every confidence in my team for next month. I hope to be winning much more often in my time in charge at West Ham!
