Okay, I know, this is my third attempt at a story in the past 3 days. However, I promise I can make this one work, and I would like one final chance on an FM10 story before I begin my quest in FM11, when released.

What Can We Do? - A West Ham Story

Short Introduction: West Ham United have hired rookie manager Ben Davis, for an unknown reason. Avram Grant has had a fall out with the West Ham staff, and regretably got the sack. Ben Davis, the new boss, has promised his board a mid-table finish. Following this statement, the manager asked his players, "So lads, what can we do?" This is how the story begins. Ben Davis takes charge at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season, and has the whole of Pre-Season to prove himself before the proper games begin. I will be posting monthly updates, which will include manager views, screenshots, and everything else you may need to know. You can expect the first 2 updates rather promptly, as I am in September already.

The story picks up at the beginning of July, and the Pre-Season campaign has just got underway...

Enjoy!

Last chance....

The fact that you've started with West Ham again is just a joke, how many times do you want to fail with them?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I haven't started again with West Ham, I am still on my first save as them. It was the failure of my previous stories which was the reason I abbandoned them. However, I have devised a simple, yet effective layout which I hope will draw lot's of followers in! Thanks 'gain for the opportunity to create this story!

July 2009

This Month's Results

(Di Canio Cup Semi-Final)
West Ham 7-0 Cisco Roma

View attachment 100721

Managers View - A fantastic start to a long and succesful era at West Ham. The win that everybody at the team was hoping for, and I couldn't have wished for a better scoreline! The Di Canio Cup has been set up by me as a tribute to West Ham legend Paulo Di Canio. I asked him to attend the event, and competing each year would be teams he has previously played for. This year we have us, West Ham, Celtic, Cisco Roma, and Napoli. Celtic beat Napoli in their Semi-Final, meaning we have the scottish giants in the Final! Bring it on!

(Di Canio Cup Final)
West Ham 2-1 Celtic

View attachment 100722

Managers View - Brilliant! We beat the Scottish giants! The best team in Scotland, and we managed to beat them. I can't get over it. If we can beat Celtic, surely we can beat most of the other teams in the Premier League? I am very confident ahead of the new season, and I just can't wait for the lads to show me more throughout the rest of Pre-Season.

(Friendly)
Boca Juniors 1-3 West Ham

View attachment 100723

Managers View - Another good result in my opinion. Boca Juniors, the greatest team in Argentina, and we beat them. They have players like Roman Riquelme and Matin Palermo; but my boys showed they are no pushovers. I honestly feel we can achieve that mid-table finished that I promised the board a couple of weeks ago.

(Friendly)
West Ham 1-2 Hearts

View attachment 100724

Managers View - Well, what can I say? No excuses today; Hearts fully deserved their win. I wasn't too pleased with the turnout today... just over 12,000 is not good enough really. I guess the miserable weather could have been a problem for fans, but still, the croud weren't there to egg the croud on today. Oh yeah, no excuses... Well, a poor result, but I am sure the next match will be better.

This Month's Transfers

-> Mikael Silvestre - Free Agent

View attachment 100725

Managers View - The experience of Silvestre is invaluable. I was looking for a new central defender, and to get somebody of Mikael's quality on a free transfer is just fantastic. I hope he can make a big impact in the forthcoming season for my team.

-> Darius Vassel - Free Agent

View attachment 100726

Managers View - Another great free transfer. Darius is an experienced forward, who has had a good career in Premiership football, playing for Manchester City and Aston Villa. I welcome Darius into our club with open arms, and a vacant striker position. If Vassel impresses enough in training before the season, he may well just make that position his.

-> Carl Dickinson - £2,000,000 from Stoke City

View attachment 100727

Managers View - Carl will act as backup for the left-back position this season. Although he is of sufficient quality for the first team, I think that his aggression could become an issue, and therefore I keep full faith in Ilunga for the left-back area.

<- Kieron Dyer - £2,500,000 to FC Koln

View attachment 100728

Managers View - Kieron's high demanding wages were too much for our club. I think £70,000 per week is a little too much for a player of his standards. To sell him was the best option, however he is still demanding £30,000 per week from us until his contract ends in 2011... Unbelievable!

<- Holmar Eyjolfsson - £1,000,000 to Fiorentina

View attachment 100729

Managers View - Holmar is a player with a bright future ahead of him. However when an offer of £1,000,000 was made, how could I refuse. I wish Holmar all the best in his future career.

This Month's Overview

Managers View - A good month I would say. Some very good signings made, and some good money coming in from the transfers of Dyer, and Eyjolfsson. Our results in Pre-Season so far have been fantastic, and despite the loss to Hearts, I am still very proud of my team. I look forward to the next month in charge of The Hammers.

August 2009

This Month's Results

(Friendly)
West Ham 2-1 Pumas

Managers View - Another good Pre-Season result. All of these results are making me very confident ahead of the season. I feel that a few more signings should be made before our first Premier League game, but we can do it!

(Friendly)
AFC Sudbury 0-4 West Ham

Managers View - Our final friendly before the season begins, and this victory gives us the utmost confidence ahead of our first Premiership match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. The singings are still coming in, and players are still going out, but we should be finishing the deals before the Blackburn game hopefully.

(Barclays Premier League)
Blackburn Rovers 0-1 West Ham

Managers View - The season has finally got underway, and we got the result we were hoping for. Maybe another goal or 2 would have been better, but a win is a win, and i'll take that every time. A big well done to my boys!

(Barclays Premier League)
Sunderland 0-1 West Ham

Managers View - Second game of the season, and another win! How happy am I! I am so pleased, and now we sit 5th in the table. I won't be posting an image of the league table this month because I feel we haven't played enough games yet. Anyway, another good win, and that mid-table finish is defintely do-able!

(League Cup Round 2)
Brentford 1-5 West Ham

Managers View - Aha! Sorry Brentford fans, but that performance was appalling! I admit, there is a 2 division gap between us, but still, there was no effort from Brentford being put in. A magnificent display from our lads, and it could have so easily been 6, if Mark Noble didn't miss his penalty. Mark isn't too upset about it, because the rest of the boys netted 5 anyway. Very good result!

(Barclays Premier League)
West Ham 2-0 Everton

Managers View - 3 out of 3 in the league so far. I can't ask for anymore than that can I? I am so happy with my squad, I have promised them a curry tonight. Must dash, I am late already!

This Month's Transfers

-> Greg Halford - £2,100,000 from Wolverhampton Wanderers

Managers View - The right-back which I was in need of, we now own. Greg was not getting any football at Wolves, and so I decided that West Ham should be his next challenge. For a sum of £2,100,000, I do feel that Halford may be put under some pressure to perform well every game. Obviously I want this, but the pressure may cause mistakes, which could potentially lead to goals to the opposition. Well, we'll soon find out!

-> Paul Codrea - £1,000,000 from Siena

Managers View - The formation that I have employed at West Ham this season is a 4-1-1-2-2, featuring a defensive midfielder. The only DM we currently posses is Scott Parker. And although there is nothing wrong with Scott, we do need backup for his position. Paul Codrea was placed on the transfer list for £1,000,000, and it was a must buy for me. His set-piece taking is a major reason for the purchase.

-> Frank Fielding - £275,000 from Blackburn Rovers

Managers View - Frank is the backup keeper I was looking for. The only top class keeper we owned before the purchase of Frank was Rob Green. Rob is in my first team plans for the whole season, however if he suddenly get's injured, or sent-off, then we need a backup. We had 2 under 18 keepers as backup before, but I feel Frank has enough quality to be our backup for the season.

-> Ivelin Popov - £1,000,000 from Litex

Managers View - Popov certainly has the class and skill that our team was in need of. There was no positioning reason behind this purchase; I just saw the talent and snapped it up! Good buy in my opinion.

-> Emad Meteeb - £3,000,000 from Al-Ahly

Managers View - All of our strikers were somewhere around 30 years of age, and I felt that we needed a younger forward to help us on our way this year. I am hoping that Emad can be a big hit at West Ham, and although a fee of £3,000,000 was a bit steep, I am confident that he will be worth every penny come the end of the season.

<- Jonathan Spector - £1,500,000 to Benfica

Managers View - Spector was surpluss to requirments here at West Ham, and so I feel that selling was the right choice. £1,500,000 is a very good amount of money for the player.

<- Zavon Hines - £2,500,000 to Sampdoria

Managers View - Zavon is still very young, and he is a very good player! However, he did express a desire to leave the club, and therefore I felt that I should listen to what he wants, and sell. We got £2,500,000 for him, which is a very good deal for us, and Sampdoria.

<- Mark Noble - £4,000,000 to Sevilla

Managers View - Mark is a quality player, but we have better central midfielders at our squad now. For a fee of £4,000,000, both clubs have come out with a good deal. This had nothing to do with his penalty miss at Brentford by the way!

<- Andrea Zola - £90,000 to Reginna

<- Frank Nouble - £90,000 Loan to Blackpool

<- Manuel da Costa - Loan to Celtic

<- Fred Sears - Loan to Colchester

<- Daniel Kearns - Loan to Lincoln

<- Fabio Daprela - Loan to MK Dons

<- Winston Reid - £250,000 Loan to Hannover

<- Matthew Fry - Loan to Eastbourne Boro

<- Anthony Ashman - Loan to MK Dons

<- Benni McCarthy - £300,000 Loan to Hamburger SV

<- Daniel Gabbidon - £675,000 Loan to Osasuna

This Month's Overview

Fantastic month for West Ham. We have won every game this month, and made some very good signings too. I am looking forward to September very much, and I have every confidence in my team for next month. I hope to be winning much more often in my time in charge at West Ham!

Good update and good transfers there. Good luck with the season pal, and keep the story going.

Thanks bud. Glad to see there are no hard feelings between Southampton and Portsmouth here :D Haha.

September 2009

This Month's Results:

(Barclays Premier League)
West Ham 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

View attachment 101004

Managers View - Not the start I was hoping for in September, but I can understand a loss to Tottenham. Harry Redknapp is doing a quality job at Spurs so far this season, and it looks as if they will be big title contenders come next May. I am confident that the month will get better for us.

(Barclays Premier League)
Manchester United 2-0 West Ham

View attachment 101002

Managers View - I am a bit dissapointed, but to be fair, I was expecting to lose by around 4 goals. I feel that my West Ham players put in their best efforts, but unfortunately, Manchester United are too strong of a team for us to be beating at the moment. We have some easier fixtures toward the end of the month, so hopefully we can pick up a win or two there.

(Barclays Premier League)
West Ham 0-1 West Bromwich Albion

View attachment 101005

Managers View - So close! We were so close to gaining a point from this game, and yet we had to give away a penalty in the final minute of the game! I am very dissapointed in my boys so far this month, and things better start improving, or I am going to have to think about January transfers already!

(League Cup Round 3)
Arsenal 3-0 West Ham

View attachment 100997

Managers View - It just looks as if this month isn't going our way. I mean, fair play to Arsenal, but we always knew they were the stronger team in this fixture. I was somewhat pleased to see our transfer target, Charles N'Zogbia get on the scoresheet for Arsenal, although it would have been better if it were for us. Ah well, no point dwelling on the past, we have 1 game left this month, so let's make it a good one!

(Barclays Premier League)
Blackpool 0-0 West Ham

View attachment 100999

Managers View - Aaarrrggghhh! How could that happen? Hitting the woodwork 4 times in a single match, and still managing to finish the game without scoring! Well, it looks as if September was a bummer for us, but I have told the lads that October will be the complete opposite. That seemed to have boosted their spirits a bit, for now.

This Month's Transfers

-> Morten Gamst Pedersen - Free Transfer from Blackburn Rovers

View attachment 101003

Managers View - Wow! How lucky were we to secure the signature of somebody like Morten. His contract expired at the end of August, but we had the deal done by the middle of August anyway. It was a struggle to not say anything incase it fell through, but I am now so pleased to say that Pedersen is a Hammer! I think he'll have a good season for us.

-> Robbie Fowler - £200,000 from Perth Glory FC (Joining 1st January 2009)

View attachment 101001

Managers View - Robbie is a striker of the highest quality, and although he maybe isn't at the top of his game right now, I still feel he has that class about him. I just it was January now!

-> Craig Bellamy - £7,000,000 from Manchester City (Joining 1st January 2009)

View attachment 100998

Managers View - Craig was one of my transfer targets in August, but after rejecting the contract offer from us, the deal fell through. After recently expressing a desire to leave Man City, I knew it was my chance to try again. We have successfully negotiated a contract, even if it does mean paying him £88,000 per week! I am very happy that Craig is returning to his former favourite, West Ham United.

This Month's Overview

View attachment 101000

Managers View - I am not very pleased at all with this month. 5 poor results, and I just hope that October is an improvement! One a plus note, the signing of Morten Gamst Pedersen has been a lift to everybody, and after hearing about the captures of Fowler and Bellamy, the team seems to be ready for next month.

Another West Ham story.
This site aint' big enough for the two of us. :L No i'm ko.
I'll be following.
Good luck

Thanks very much. Shame I had a poor month for September, but I think October will be better. I'll take a look at your story in a second.

Also, how is everybody else finding my story? Good layout? Good content? Is it interesting? And finally, what do you think of the actual story.. As in, are my transfers good and so on... Would be good to hear some more feedback from you guys. Other than that, keep on the look out for the next update some time soon! :D

Another good update there mate, lovely deal for Pedersen and nice to see Bellamy back at Upton Park again (or due to come back). Hopefully you'll find the form you had in the first 3 games again.

Thanks again guys. I am glad I have some followers :)

As I said, the next update will be sometime in the next 2 or 3 days... so look out for it!

The layout is nice mate and the signings are very good.
Should be a good season

Very bad news i'm afraid... My game has somehow corrupted, leaving me with nothing but memories of my West Ham save :( Please though, be on the lookout for my FM11 story, which will follow the same layout as this one, only with Southampton instead. Thanks for the comments I have recieved, but I guess all I can do now is wait 'till FM11.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hello again,
I have returned, and was wondering, if a mod would possibly allow it, if I could make another story. I know this was my last chance, supposedly, however I feel it is a little unfair how my game corrupted, meaning I can't carry on with this story. Thanks in advance if this would be possible...

On second thoughts, I'll wait 'till FM11 :)
