Hello all,

I was not into FM for a time, but maybe I'm buying it this year. But then I saw this review, it is cleary from
a person who dislikes it so its biased. But I would like what you think of it, has it valid points?

Its just one negative review, all others are positive, but find it interesting.

Edit: Cant post html it seems? Well if you search in google for: fm 2014 review arsenal, it will show up as first link.

Greetings

I've read it and completely disagree with pretty much everything this guy has said.
Btw, it isn't "biased" if he has a negative opinion about the game - although it is certainly a very opinionated review that doesn't give a substantial strengths/weaknesses listing...

"I’m no longer involved in beta so I don’t know, but apparently the match engine for FM14 is the new one that customers have been promised for years. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still the same ME that we had in FM11."

This quote was interesting - has this guy even played FM14?
He's written a review without even playing the BETA (which by the way, isn't even the full game)???
How can you possibly judge a game on the BETA anyways, and seemingly he hasn't even played that.

Complete rubbish and a bit of a joke to be honest. It's a great series and I've bought the latest version every year since 05. It's had bug issues even a couple of months beyond initial release occasionally for sure, but that really doesn't detract from a fantastic, fun game series in the long run.

EDIT: Maybe he's just bad at the game and thrown a hissy fit? The part describing Valve as being "industry hacks" was funny. Shows a lack of knowledge about one of the leading PC gaming companies, if not "the" leading PC game company. Do I need to list the amazing Valve games which shaped gaming in the last decade?

"Yet another instalment of Football Manager, aiming to frustrate users in a quest to exploit their unchallenged market dominance for as long as people still accept their shoddy work as a finished product."

He lost me at the first paragraph! :P

If you like FM then you should get this one - a very good improvement on past editions.

The review is complete BS, the last para is him saying he doesn't know if the match engine is new or not as he does not play anymore. He is also upset that 'he can't experiment with a LB as a striker' not sure what game he played as you can do that - but just like IRL playing a player in a position they are not familiar with will very likely end badly.

I for one am loving the new game, still some bugs but great fun.

Yeah, Thierry Henry would never work as a striker would he! :P

"He's" a she.
That's Mantralux who made an oustanding Arsenal tactic/guide for Fm12.
Each to their own;her biggest bug-bear seems to be the recent 3d match engines. Have they fixed it this year?
Just downloading the demo...

Steam ? an embarrassingly poor platform

This person is obviously not sober.

I have to start Steam, which, on Mac at least, is not a pleasant experience.

Well, that's Apple's fault more than anything. Steam was released in 2003, and it became available for Mac in 2010 - which by fanboys was regarded as a "revolution". Truth is, Steam is the best gaming platform there is. And that's not because it lacks competition, it just destroys all competition with its user-friendly interface, accessibility and allround great solutions.

I'm a UI/UX architect by trade and in my profession one click is always better than two clicks. There is simply no reason at all for there to be two clicks. Pre-Steam I had FM in my dock and I clicked once to load the game. With Steam I now have to click Steam, wait for it to load, select FM2014, click play: now it loads. That's three clicks, two if FM2014 is already selected.

Really. A "UI/UX architect" that doesn't know you only have to click the shortcut you can easily add to your desktop? Which, upon clicking, automatically launches Steam and subsequently the game?

Sorry, this review just reeks of frustration and subjectivism based on nothing other than incompetence.

I love what they have done with the user interface, I love all the interaction stuff and everything. However IMO all SI have done since FM10 is ruin the match engine to the point where I find the game almost unplayable, its not just this beta but the whole of FM11,12 and 13 and so far this the worst of the lot. I still love FM of course and still try and play the game but I'm seriously losing the plot with this beta, I just pray they fix the BS in it for full release.

Only 3 Ray Parlours out of 10? im sure even the Romford Pele would disagree with that.

Reading it the reviewer seems extremely bitter about something, seems to have a personal hatred of SI or someone at SI. Either a sacked ex employee or he caught Miles in bed with his mum. Sad and pathetic really.

Some valid points are raised, but it's hard to take it seriously when it's so cynical and moany.

Some valid points sure, but all the invalid ones makes it all seem a lot more like a rant than a review.

Abomination of a review. Petty, pathetic, petulant. Clearly hate's Steam, and as JP pointed out has a grudge against SI. And once I saw the "blind fanboy" phrase because someone was critical without going OTT it just made me want to roll my face on the keyboard. It wasn't a review-it was a bitchfest. Nothing more, nothing less. And the fact it's "awful" yet she still plays it? /facepalm.

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

I'm not wild on this year's game so far, with the sliders making for a less obvious sense of control. Aside from that, the finances seem a bit bloated and limited in terms of what can be achieved and controlled, the player personalities seem to be too quick to develop a chip on their shoulder, and team morale seems to be ever dangling off the edge of a cliff. Those three things are fixable, though. That review was just petty, and deserves the ridicule it's receiving.
