I can't, for the life of me, get a team to win a steady amount of games. I like to start as unemployed and work my way up (starting with a big team with good players and loads of money seems cheap and pointless if you haven't earned it!).
I put down tactics that, to my not necessarily limited but not extensive knowledge, seem pretty straightforward and logical. But I just get defeat, after defeat, after defeat with a couple of wins in between. Currently I have a job at Derby and the team is decent - I haven't signed great players (though I have Taddei coming in in a few months) but they aren't terrible, except they are playing terribly.

What am I doing wrong? My training regimens seem fine and specific to player positions, I don't see anything wrong with my tactics. What can it be?

Any help with creating good tactics (like what to look for in players that will benefit formations and vice versa) and even decent, generic and universal training regimens. I want to like this game but I'm losing my wits trying to figure it out. (ps i've never had any luck in any previous version either, and I refuse to play big teams without earning it)

thanks to all that have taken the time to read and reply,

I am a very amateur tactician as well and mostly use other people's tactics from on here. I have however had realistic success with many teams by using the stock standard TC settings i.e. Choosing a formation, letting the TC assign duties and roles. Only change I would make is to the mentality based on each match, leaving the philosophy on Balanced. Maybe try this?
