What is happening?

Earlier today I went to start and new game and I get an 'XML Sparsing error' or something along those lines,it cripples my game and I have to close it using task manager.Im a noob with computers so could I have some help from the base community please.

Defragmenting may help, but xml errors have no root cause, they can be down to any number of reasons, so try the tips i have suggested first, then perhaps try defragmenting. Google will help to give you instructions as the location of the defragmentation program is slightly different for each version of windows.

Does this happen randomly or have I done something to cause it?

Seems to have helped Worried me a tad, especially as the update is near ... hopefully

It can happen randomly. But the most common causes are:

Custom graphics that are not suitable for the game
Loading a custom database or editing a save file with FMRTE
Loading too many leagues or a database size thats too much for your processor to handle
CPU/computer as a whole overheating
