What sort of tactics to use if you are heavy underdogs?

Well i am sry if this is anywhere on the forum but i just wan t to know from you guys that what sort of instructions and tactics would use if you are to defend a small lead (for example an 1-0 lead at 2nd leg of continental competition) desperately or if you are the heavy underdogs in a given match (somewhere a draw would satisfy you)??
Thanks in advance and i really want your opinions as i am not very great tactically.

It's pretty obvious that you would play defensively, on the Counter. Two fast wingers and one up front, a good target man with good composure and first touch. I'd also set up two DM's and a CM just in front of them who can play Box to Box. Slow down your tempo and play a shorter passing game.

in my catania team i use control mentality and it works pretty good.. they can control the game in spite of aware of defensive line and keep the ball in possession to keep the chance patiently,, but in one condition please use default in passing team instructions.. i hope it will helpfully

I have been underdog for 3 seasons now, gaining 2 promotions. I have always played with possession, and it is actually very easy to have possession about 60% even against much bigger teams. Use at least 3 midfielders, even 4 (4-1-2-1-2 has been very succesful for some to gain high possession) reduce their space in the middle, do not use forward runs for midfielders and put many players on defensive or low mixed mentality, that way they make lots of passes backwards and not taking any risks. Tick the counter attack box, so if they push too many players forward, you can exploit their defence with quick counter attack.
