I take the Arsene Wenger approach and play my reserve/youth players in the L/FA cups. I tend to add a little exp to the team if I end up playing Chelsea or Arsenal etc but nothing major. I have managed to win 2 League cups and one FA cup using this method over 6 seasons. (man utd)

Depends who i am playing honestly.

But i tend to give my youth players and reserves a shot to proove themselves :)

I usually use a mixture of first squad players that don't play so much, reserve players, youngsters,...
But if the rivals are so strong or in the final stages I sometimes include top players.

It depends.

Thats how it is for me too.

i rotate my team... but everything depends about quality of your players

I try not to play anybody in my starting XI by using my subs and any other players available in the positions that haven't been filled yet.

i tend to use the youngsters and fringe plays from my 25 man first team

Depends what the board expectations are. If they don't regard it as important - reserves+u18's, if it's important depends on opposition. But I usually only play 1 senior striker, 1or2 senior midfielders and 1 or 2 senior defenders and my backup keeper (so he stops whining about playing time) mixed in with reserves an u18's for weaker opposition. For the finals, semi finals/quarter finals then it full strength. Might as well try to win it if we get that far. Every trophy is good for reputation and gives you a chance if you;re a small team to lure signings in and keep getting better. And winning gets me more games to play youngsters (development) and reserves(stops them whining). Mind you I do have a lot of games that I'm up 3-0 by at the half and I sub players off immediately

Won League cup 3 times in a row, lost the fa trophy twice in a row to Arsenal (see my post in the help thread about Alphonse Areola :( ) in 5 seasons in the premiership. Euro Cup x1 and Euro Champions Cup x1. My first 11 play about 50 games a season, reserves about 20-30(mostly sub appearances but occasional starts), youngsters 10-15. I had a problem last season with my striker getting jaded in the final weeks and having played 63 games that season but I didn't expect to reach FA cup, Champions Cup and the premiership going down to the last day

League Cup: Youngsters and reserves only.
FA Cup: Youngsters and reserves only for League One and below teams. Reserves and 'fringe' players (subs) for Premier League and Championship, with the exception of United, Chelsea etc.

Honestly, I always go all out and place my best squad on in any sort of cup match. I treat it as a champions league final all the time and, if a player gets injured then I usually have sufficient back up :)
