Hello All,

I am managing a side in the national league north and wanted some advice.

As you will know money at this level is poor, actually non-existent.

I have a player who is a natural AMC but only accomplished AMR, I want a AMR for the tactic I want to play with so can I continuously use him on the right or do I need to buy another or try getting one free who is a natural in that position. He is according to my *** man one of the best players at the club.

Just retrain him, I've retrained a kid who was a natural AMC as an AMR when he had no rating for that position originally. Just set him on training for the position and keep playing him there, he'll get there eventually, depends on his versatility how long it will take. If he's already accomplished it should be easy :)

Thanks

But he is 28, is that not considered too old for re-training a new position?

my assman often recommends that I retrain players for new positions as they get older.
if he is accomplished AMR I see no reason to buy a new player. I often play players out of position, its my tactics and I dont care what they want.
Often they even play better (get higher ratings, more assist/more involved in play etc) when I put them where I want them and not where they wanna play.

I think I may play him there, if like my *** man says he is one of the best players at the club I'd hope he can adapt

If he's your only option there, you may want to get a youngster on loan from league 1 or 2 team as a rotation. You'll find, especially with players getting a bit older, wingers need rested every so often, or you may need to sub him if he's having a bad day on the pitch.

I do have a youth who can fill in that position, but he is absolute rubbish

I always start my careers out in the lower rungs and work my way up. Biggest problems I have is inconsistent players, and bench depth (usually because budgets are so small). I usually get loan players from the U18 - U23 teams in the higher leagues to fill gaps. Plus most times the clubs will let them go on loan for free just to get them first team soccer. I like to win, even if it upsets the dressing room a bit by not playing rubbish players. I've only lost one job through losing the confidence of the dressing room, but that was back in FM15.
