What's in a name?

On my 3D match screen I have a player whose name is different to the one in the editor. It is only by one letter but leads me to believe that the text on this screen isn't taken from the editor. Does anyone know where it comes from so that I can edit it to the correct name.

Check the player's shirt name (found on the personal attributes page of editor), and that the names on the personal details page match (as some players have a nickname as well as their original/full name)

Already done so. There is no nickname or shirt name and if I put the correct name on the shirt it is still wrong in play.
