Keep going dude. When you pick a team and see their players, try and work around them. Like Arsenal Fast Possession Football with Short Passes, Stoke Slow Tempo , Hard tackling. Also messing are with instructions is better. Also with transfers just dont buy anyone but buy just for the required position for e.g. MAN UTD are missing another playmaker and Scholes is old so will only make sense if they buy a playemaker.
I find it better to work in classic mode when creating tactics as with Tactic Creator you have to give them roles. Keep going you will get there.

Keep going mate, i found reading about other people tactic's help me, I couldn't make a tactic to save my life then i made the Barcelona and Xavi passing tactic and people love it. just keep tweaking it will come.....

Play with the creative freedom and Mentality settings, Dont just assume that because a player plays in an attacking role that he should have an attacking mentality and vice versa

I'd also try to stick to a tactic and make slight improvements,work on it instead trying to get loads of tactics.Sometimes little tweaking makes all the diference.

Good advice, Try to limit creative freedom so players adhere to the tactics your setting out. Leave only one or two at the most with a decent level of creative freedom. Also try watching a full game or if you cant be bothered at least extended highlights to get a greater idea of why its not working

The way I have learned to make tactics for myself is to tailor make every individual players setting based on their attributes. So if a Winger has high attributes in dribbling, acceleration and off the ball but low crossing I would give him an Inside Forward role and reduce his crossing. Then work on what mentality you wish to have. Mentality relates to position on the pitch and how attacking the player is on the ball. High mentality will keep the player higher up the pitch and he will more than likely make more attack minded decisions. You have to understand your players and your team. It's not easy but taking the time to understand how each player plays and working that to the benefit of your team is key. I myself am still not consistently getting good tactics made for myself but watching matches in full will help so much in learning about how your team plays. I could talk all night about this but I am a lazy sod so that's all I have for now.
i have the exact same problem. For the past couple of months ive been on just about every football manager forum looking in the tactics sections for any kind of useful information. I think the main problem is that i just over-complicate things. its a difficult thing to get right, therefore im starting with a basic 4-4-2 using the TC without changing anything and i'll tweak when i see fit, this seems to be the best way to deal with the problem IMO

it just seems to be the sensible thing to do, starting with a better team is good at first because you have more depth in the squad so you can choose from a wider range of possible formations that will suit your players. or your favourite team because you already know their strengths and weaknesses?
