Being an Arsenal fan, the only team I really want to be is Arsenal. At the beginning of FM13 I couldn't do anything right, but after the January window I went on to win every trophy in just two seasons (I was shocked also).

However this year I've struggled with Arsenal and I am yet to even finish one season on FM14, I don't even think I've made it to January yet. Yet I do have 64 hours play time according to Steam. I don't know how lol

I know the game is still in a buggy position and stuff just happens that shouldn't, and this is not a thread complaining, I'm trying to find out Arsenal success stories. But I can't seem to get Arsenal to perform at all.

I've tried 4231, 4141, 41221, 42121 and 42211. I just can't get them playing constantly well. I've varied from fluid to rigid, control to counter and adapted the instructions when required.

What I've noticed is that Giroud can't finish anything for me. As a AF, TM, CF or a P. My wingers get most of my goals, Walcott and Chamberlain on the right. Cazorla, while doesn't score many, cuts inside and plays the balls to the right wingers to score. Ozil, I don't know what Ozil does on this game honestly. I've tried AP, T, E, SS and AM and he's lucky if he gets a 7.0 rating.

Wilshere, Ramsey and Arteta constantly get low ratings. Flamini on the other hand usually puts in a good shift. Rosicky is an unsung hero and played Ozil out of the team for me on my previous save. The defenders usually good quite well, Gibbs gets forward around Cazorla and gets into good positions. Sagna does alright. Mertesacker, while slow is a constant 7.50 rating as is Koscielny. However randomly both will just play like ****. Szczesny is a weird one, one moment nothing can beat him, next minute he's falling over out of his box letting goals in.

I know I am rambling on a little now, but I just cannot seem to get anywhere with this Arsenal team. The 60+ hours I've spent playing this game has been trying to work it out.

So yeah, has anyone had any luck with Arsenal and what did you do/ how did you setup?

I've started and restarted my Arsenal save probably 7 times? (Another Gooner). Furthest I've got is 4 seasons in and I've never won anything in the first season even when using downloaded tactics. In my current and longest save I won the treble in the second season (Capital One, Champs League and Prem League) and in the 3rd and 4th season I've come second in the prem and got to the semi or finals of the champs league but haven't won anything.

I feel like with Arsenal the squad simply isn't good enough to win anything in the first season without some luck regarding fixtures, your injuries and opponents injuries. Szczeny, Gibbs, Flamini, Rosicky, Bendter, Giroud are all 2.5*. Doesn't seem to me like we have enough strength or depth to mount a real challenge in the first season. I think you should be aiming to win/significantly challenge for the EPL or Champs League assuming some successful transfers in the windows.

EDIT: Don't rule out Bendter straight away, in my latest save he has put some decent performances for me in the first season. Also you can ask for extra trasnfer budget in January of season 1 and get an extra 25 mil

Even as a Chelsea fan, I gave arsenal a shot because of the players they have, I could only manage to play half a season, since they're a rival. But I was top of the league, albeit by only 2 points. Creating a proper tactic with arsenal is quite easy IMO as they have very well rounded squad with no glaring holes like some top teams do.

To^^ the GK (can't write his name, lol) is very good, at arsenal. The squad is good IMO. Carlos Vela is only purchase I made. Giroud is good, has high teamwork and "plays with back to goal" PPM, pacey Walcott, play makers on Cazorla, Ozil, Wilshere. Direct players in Podolski, CM / DM is solid too with the likes of Flamini as Bwm / anchor, Arteta as DLP, Ramsey as DLP / BTB.

What exactly is a "proper tactic"? I've tried multiple, all just seem to fail. My main one I try is 4231 or 41221 like so:

Szczesny
GK D

Sagna -- Mertesacker -- Koscielny -- Gibbs
FB Auto -- CB D ----------- CB D -- FB Auto

Ramsey/Wilshere -- Artea/Flamini
BTB/DLP S -- CM D/BWM

Walcott -- Ozil -- Cazorla
W A -- T/AP A -- IF S

Giroud
TM S

And for the instructions it's usually the standard for this formation. One game they'll play amazing, the next they won't. I know the game has become more about changing tactics ect, but how are you meant to get familiar tactics if you have to change them every game? I understand if I played that formation without a DM ever, then teams would start to know my tactic, which is fair enough. But not after 2/3 games of the season I shouldn't have to completely change it again.

I was doing so good that i quit after 1 3/4 seasons out of boredom and started Liverpool save witch is real challenge (considering how underrated their best players are). Used 3 formations standard 4-2-3-1 attacking/balanced , 4-5-1 counter/rigid and 4-2DM-3AM-1 control/balanced.

B.Rodgers just got sacked on my save in April shows it's a challenge! Anyway this is my first save as Arsenal and I've been sacked in April and rightly so! Languishing between 7th and 10th not quite stepping up losing some silly games.

I'm an arsenal fan and I resisted starting over as arsenal so opted to carry in, funny thing is the game I got sacked from was a defeat to Swansea just when I thought my luck was going to change with a 0-0 with man utd the game before... Oh well!
Here's the funny thing, Swansea lost laudrup to Arsenal and I went to Swansea to hopefully steer them clear of relegation in the last 6 weeks.

Wenger has just been appointed Liverpool boss which hurts to see tbh..

Well I think we must be playing the same save! Ozil sadly looked lame at times for me and Giroud was woeful apart from the odd crucial goal. This was why I brought in Llana and Rodriguez, shame that Llalana got injured just as he got going and Rodriguez just wasn't quite doing it. I got good games out of Schezney and Kocielne (excuse the spelling) bad for an arsenal fan eh?! Was so tempted to start over and try a different approach, I started to get some success in champs league with a DM protecting the back 4 and an AM supporting the striker but typical as I thought I saw potential turn around they sacked me leading me to Swansea as you may read in my previous post...

Ozil is a monster as IF on the right, he scores more than assists, though. Giroud does a decent job on Target Man (support). Scored 19 in 27 games. Most Fullbacks and defenders are unable to cope with Walcott's place, although I usually sell him since Ozil keeps him out and get Bernard for Left wing. Wilshere as CAM does a good job, too. I used a 4-1-1-3-1 with Arsenal (Asymmetrical 4-2-3-1 with 1 DM and 1CM) since defending is a joke on this patch, you need an Anchor Man in front of defense.

Being an Arsenal fan I find it hard to have the commitment and desire to manage anyone else. I like to keep going with Arsenal until I've conquered football and Arsenal are the most succesful club EVER. I also like to find a striker to overtake Thierry Henry's goalscoring record. Easier said than done. I'm curently starting my 7th season with Arsenal. I have a 29 Year Old Jack Wilshere who is the only player to have survivedIt's quite hard to start as Arsenal and mount a serious title challenge, as the players just aren't available 1st season. Being as all the summer transfers are done.
You would need to make 2-3 world class signings for Arsenal to challenge. Man Utd are ridiculously overrated on there may I had and Liverpool are very underated too.
I know its 'sort of' cheating, but I go on holiday for the 1st season and add myself as Arsenal Manager at the end of May 2014. This gives me a chance to have a good clear out of dead wood at Arsenal and also many players are available that can make a real difference.

I sold:
-Mertesacker
-Monreal
-Cazorla
-Gibbs
-Flamini
-Podolski
-Walcott
and Fabianski to name a few.

More importantly I managed to bring in:

-Verrati
-Nkoulou
-Andre Schurrle
-Asier Illaramendi
-Julian Draxler
-Balanta
-Belfodil
-De Bruyne
-Sakai
-Insigne
-Luke Shaw

These players bled me dry of funds but they gave me the chance to be up there with the best.

With a mixture of alot of friendlies and 'Team Cohesion' training they blended into the squad well.
