Hi, this is my first post to the forum. I'm from Turkey. So, hi :)

I was reading about FM 2014 while playing it, and found out that people are fond of the youth intake dates. Why?

At first, I thought that it is important because you can get the youth on a contract before the club. So, scouting the country at that time is a good idea.

I tried that for Turkey. When my team announced the new youth players, I assigned a scout (20/20) to Turkey. I set some conditions: 3 stars at least and under 20 years old. Not only it took him a while (maybe a week, don't remember now) to report back, the good ones were already taken. Or let's say, I couldn't offer a contract before making a transfer offer to the clubs. And the teams were asking ridiculous prices for the players.

What did I do wrong? Sent the man too late? (The day my club announced it)

A few but important reasons.

The main one is getting your interest in before other clubs have a chance to sign him. The more clubs interested, the less likely you are to sign him.

The second one is that if you know the date when a nations youth comes through, then your entire scouting for that county can be on that date. I go through the youth teams of all the clubs in the nation, only takes a few minutes to click through a league worth of players and add those I deem worthy to the scouting pool.

That's the way I use them anyway....

So, do you go through the youth teams yourself instead of sending scouts to the nation?

The MOST important thing about regen dates is that all regens are all generated WITHOUT a protected contract. That means, you can approach a wonderkid regen about signing a contract, without having to deal with his club.

This means you can snap up amazing regens for very very cheap (about 1-2 million pounds for a top class regen). However, if you're not quick enough, the regens will often (about 99.90% of the time) sign a contract with their club after a few days.

So if you know when regens are generated, you can go to that nation and look through all their regens, and sign all the regens you want for very cheap because their contracts are "unprotected" (this means you can approach this directly without having to deal with their club). If you don't know their dates, you might be late and the regen you really like might have already signed a contract with the club. Which means you might have to pay 10 million to his club rather than the 1 million you could have gotten him for.

Yep, scouts aren't the fastest bunch if you just assign them to a nation.

Best bet is to quickly scan through the players looking for those with half decent stats, and adding to the scouting pool manually. Use the arrows near the player name at the top to quickly spam through a team's players.

That way, you get a much faster return on those report cards as multiple scouts will be working down the list you have made.

What I usually do because I'm lazy is that I get my scout that has fantastic "scouting potential" stat to scout the nation on the day the regens come out.
Also importantly, the scout has to have 100% knowledge of that nation. This will allow him to return a report within 1 day. If he doesn't have 100% in that country, it'll take him too long to scout the nation, and by then the regens will already have signed contracts with their club.

Use a scout with 100% knowledge of the country. That usually means using a Spanish scout to scout Spain, an English scout to scout England. Often times, the Scandivian scouts will have 100% knowledge of several countries which is always a bonus.

Easiest way once you have a decent amount of scouts is just go the youth intake screen and get a scout report on 2-300 of them. Get about 70 back at a time, might miss out on one or two but it's the easiest way of doing it once you have a big enough scouting team.

Where is the youth intake screen exactly? Cant find it..

All the regens from the year and month you choose, yes.

So, im in Germany, and in the day i receive mine, i can do that and see all the regns in that came out in the month prior to the date?

Germany is March 8th if I remember correctly? On that day, just go to the transfers - youth intake, choose Germany, and you'll see all the regens generated in Germany that year:

Playing Fm for so many years and i didn't knew this....

I will slap myself many times for this...

Btw, do you know more dates? I forgot where i've putted the notepad with them....

The easiest way used to be having a scout with maximum knowledge of a country and assign them to scout players aged 16 max when that regen date arrives. So for instance assign your German scout with full knowledge of Germany to scout the country on 8th March using age as the filter.

The thing about this FM is that instead of taking a day or a few days to report back, scouts with full knowledge now take atleast a week.

Why are Scandinavian countries in the same dates of Brazil and alike?

Not sure, but it may have something to do with the Scandinavian leagues running from March to November (at least the Norwegian one does). The regen dates seem to be close to the end of the season, which is why March is the big month for the big European leagues.

Realized this too! A bit more annoying / realistic!
