Martinez sacked as Wigan Unveil New Manager

Just hours after Wigan Athletic had sacked Roberto Martinez as Manager, The club announced former Scotland midfielder Bradley Wallace as their new man in charge. In Wallace's first press conference, he stated that he hopes the club can achieve higher things, and not just a relegation battle each season.

Wallace also revealed that there will be changes in some staff, and that the money is there to buy new players, who can freshen up the current squad.

Two Players In, Two Players Out

After just days in charge, Bradley Wallace has already been involved in the transfer market.

The first of the new signings was South African winger Siphiwe Tshabalala for a small fee of £1m from Kaizer Chiefs. The Club then spent a fee of £6.5m on Wolves striker Kevin Doyle. Doyle said that he is relishing the prospect of being in a team full of new ideas.

The first of the outgoings was Spanish attacking midfielder Jordi Gomez. He signed for £2m to Italian side Sampdoria. The Wigan supporters were then sad to see Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega move to Sporting Lisbon, for £4.5m.

Elsewhere, Wallace announced former Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia as new assistant manager.

Wigan Athletic 3-0 Bristol City

A great start to Wigan's Pre Season, as goals from Caldwell, Watson and Doyle helped them see off Bristol City, at the DW Stadium. Bristol City's Jon Stead also had a penalty saved from Ali Al-Habsi.

In Transfer news, Steve Gohouri, Franco Di Santo, Hendry Thomas and Mike Pollitt all left the club, for a total of £5.25m.

Cardiff City 0-1 Wigan Athletic

Kevin Doyle scored the only goal as the Latics beat Cardiff in Wales.

Wigan Athletic 3-2 Bayer Leverkusen

A very entertaining match at the DW Stadium. Sidney Sam put Leverkusen ahead, but Victor Moses put it back to level terms. Simon Rolfes then scored a close range header, before Moses scored another two goals to complete his hat-trick, and win Wigan the game.

Shamrock Rovers 1-1 Wigan Athletic

A fairly quiet game in Ireland saw Stephen Rice put the home side ahead. That goal was cancelled out by a screamer of a goal by James McArthur to see Wigan ****** a draw.

In other transfer news, Wigan brought in three new faces. Wolves duo Christophe Berra and George Elokobi signed for a combined fee of £6.2m. Manchester City's Gunner Nielsen was brought in as backup to Al-Habsi, for a very small fee of £275k.

Callum McManaman signed for Leicester for £500k, whilst Chris Kirkland was released. Adam Buxton and Jordan Robinson left on loan, to Hereford and Forest Green respectively.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Wigan Athletic

Emmanuel Adebayor scored the only goal at White Hart Lane, however Wigan were praised for their hard work and good counter attacking play. Victor Moses had equalised for The Latics, however the goal was ruled offside. The fans were also impressed with Christophe Berra's performance, and manager Bradley Wallace said he hopes Christophe can build on that.
