Hi everyone,

So I've won every game at home, winning every game with relative ease, yet away from home I can't buy a win? Playing exactly the same tactics, same team talks, etc. I've tried changing from a 442 to a 4411, and from attacking to control, but that doesn't do any good. I've played every FM game and never had this problem. Any help?

Thanks

That's the beauty of this edition of FM! You've got to change things up for away games. Play more disciplined football, play on the counter, etc. You can't (or shouldn't) stick to one tactic/formation for home and away games.

Cheers and have fun mate!

What the guy above me said.

I have only just started my first game today as a Australian club, Newcastle.

Played 3 away friendlies, winning 2-0, 4-0 and 1-0 respectively. But this is where FM14 is brilliant. These friendlies were against local state league clubs who arent that crash on at all, so i could risk playing attacking football away from home.

But, as soon as i play some league games away, i know ill have to put my tactic on counter, higher tempo for quick counter attacks and obviously be alot more disciplined.

As in real life, tactics should never stay the same way.

You should take into accout your opposition's pitch dimensions for every away match...Compare its dimensions to your own pitch...On a long pitch you should play a with a higher line...This will reduce the gap between your defence and your midfield that could be otherwise be exploited by the opposition and your defence will not be required to make passes over such long distances...Your defence will have more time to catch any opposition attackers that break down your defensive line.On a short pitch you should play with a deeper line, thus reducing the chances of your defence conceding possession to pressing opposition attackers or being caught out by attackers breaking behind the line...Remember that each home team has the best tactic suited for their field...You need to make the extra effort asjusting your tactics accordingly...

You also want to hire a scout with greater tactical knowledge and assign him to opposition report...He will give better reports how to exploit their weaknesses...

Max length of pitch is :115 meters...many professional team' stadium is 105 meters....Now max width is 72 meters...Many professional team' stadium is 68 meters...Now you have max and standard...You should now figure out what is a narrow, wide, short or long pitch...

Is a game really realistic if you're a top team and have to go to counter on away games at teams near the bottom though?

I get that you have to change somethings when playing away and not at home, but it's more just changing things depending on the opposition home or away.

It's not very often that a top team will change their shape drastically away from home in real life unless they are playing another top team, even then it's not very often. So I don't see how having to go counter and change your shape in away games is all the realistic.

If you usually win at home and usually loose away then you must work harder...And find the solution before you are sacked...But if you manage to dictate your tactic on other teams even away than you are the best manager in the world...Now you can retire happily achieved everything...

Some top teams do employ counter attacking tactics. Ancelotti stated the other week that Real Madrid suited playing counter attacking football.

And Jose Mourinho pretty much only counter-attacks (Or atleast he did at Madrid, Porto and his first spell at Chelsea.)

He's still doing that in second spell at Chelsea not realizing how great a team he possesses for direct attacking and worse it is for Counter attacking as none of the Attacking Mids is physically dominating :/

Must admit I haven't watched alot of Chelsea so far this season, the little I have seen of them they are extremely boring (I usually enjoy watching Chelsea tbh)...

And I agree with you, Mourinho's teams are normally quick and powerful, and full of box to box players. With the exception of Lukaku, who's you've sent out on loan, you don't really have any of those players anymore.

I know, right, and the ones who're physically imposing are benched (Mikel, Essien). We played a pivot consisting of both of them against Arsenal and that was the only match I enjoyed during the whole season. Chelsea have been extremely boring (And i'm saying that as a Chelsea fan) and disappointing, we just get goals and scrape wins, scorelines have been over-whelming. Even Cardiff City caused us trouble at Stamford Bridge. He's made Hazard and Mata track back, so their offensive contribution seems half of what I saw last year, maybe even less, but I don't get the track back thing when Fullbacks don't overlap and remain on their position.
