Classic 4-4-2 tactics based on creative wingers and deadly effective strikers

  • Home & Away classic 4-4-2 based on wingers formations
  • tweaked for 14.2.1 update
  • New Team Instructions
  • Attacking & Counter mentality
  • Rigid fluidity

1. Training
- Pre-season
View attachment 436458
- Once tactics are fluid
View attachment 436455/View attachment 436453
- On second half of the season you should also train Set Pieces. Do that when you expect easy win.

2. Individual training
Individual training always same as roles they are playing.
WB train WB or FB - depends of player type you'v got (just check his report in player profile and which role is best for him)
Wingers - if you got for example Shaqiri or Pastore which are natural Attacking Midfielders train them New Position - Midfielder Left all the time. After a season they should become natural Left Midfielders. Same with right wingers.
The rest as usual - CF train CF, F9 train F9 etc...

3. Corners tweak
Put your best CD header on Attack Near Post pos.
Check your team for best Heading / Jumping midfielder or striker and put him for Stand On Far Post
like Fellaini on my screenshot:
View attachment 435319
His role is to take over missed cross and score from Far Post position. You should notice often header shoots from that player.
* go to Tactics / Set Pieces / Edit Corner Instructions

4. Example of players for Big Clubs
GK - Thibaut Courtois (!), De Gea
LB - Alex Sandro, David Alaba, Leighton Baines, Jordi Alba
CD - Raphael Varane (!), Doria, Marquinhos, Kurt Zouma
RB - Gino Peruzzi, Sebastien Corchia, Nathaniel Clyne, Danilo
LW - Xherdan Shaqiri (!), Javier Pastore, Andre Ayew, Bernard, Oxlade Chamberlain
BWM - Arturo Vidal (!), Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, Lucas Romero,
AP - Paul Pogba, Joao Moutinho, Marco Verratti, Alessandro Florenzi, Clement Grenier
RW - Antonio Valencia, Antonio Candreva (!), Lucas Ocampos, Oxlade Chamberlain
CF - Van Persie (!), Christian Benteke, Romelu Lukaku, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Facundo Ferreyra
F9 - Rooney (!), Lewandowski, Suarez, Welbeck

5. Player Filters

6. Players Preferred Moves
FB/WB right: Runs With Ball Down Right, Gets Forward Whenever Possible, Possesses Long Flat Throw (if Long Throws attribute 14 and above)
FB/WB left: Runs With Ball Down Left, Gets Forward Whenever Possible, Possesses Long Flat Throw (if Long Throws attribute 14 and above)
CB: Marks Opponent Tightly, Does Not Dive Into Tackles, Tries To Play Way Out Of Trouble
BWM: Comes Deep To Get Ball, Marks Opponent Tightly, Plays One-Twos
AP: Dictates Tempo, Comes Deep To Get Ball, Plays One-Twos
W right: Runs With Ball Down Right, Runs With Ball Often
W left: Runs With Ball Down Left, Runs With Ball Often
CF: Likes To Try To Beat Offside Trap, Plays With Back To Goal, Runs With Ball Through Centre, Shoots With Power
F9: Comes Deep To Get Ball, Likes To Try To Beat Offside Trap, Moves Into Channels
AF: Moves Into Channels, Tries First Time Shots, Shoots With Power, Places Shots

7. Tips
- at the start of season contract the best Assistant Manager you can get (Mauro Tassotti for example) and use him on team talks
- use pre-match instructions on opposition players (OI) only against equal or bigger clubs and use for that your Assistant Manager
- buy good coaches (check my), remember more coaches you have your tactics will be fluid quickly and your players will develop better
- first 3 months of the season train only Def. Positioning, then train it before Away and hard home matches and Att. Movement before home easy matches, on second half of the season you can train also Def. Set Pieces before easy home matches
- do the motivation talks with your team every month and try to not upset them :P
- praise your players when they perform well and warn when they are lazy
- play Home tactic only on home matches and Away tactic on away games
- important matches like Cup Finals play with Home tactic
- if you play at home and want to keep the score just change to away tac
- if you play away match and loosing change to home tac
- start a season with minimum 9 friendly games to get the tactics fully fluid
- play Left foot winger on Left side and Right foot winger on Right side, your wingers should be quick and have a good crossing
- if you get red card take off CF and play with single False 9 on attack (v3)
- if you note effective AI long passes behind your defense line or you loose a goal after long pass using home tac you can change Team Instructions to Drop Deeper but when you do that dont forget to untick Use Offside Trap (v3)
- remember Match Engine on FM14 is unstable and bugged, be prepared for stupid own goals and other stupid situations, you will loose goals and sometimes matches because of that ... just go for a smoke and chill

Good luck and have fun !

special thanks to:
jassar
for his great work at Modern Warfare tactic
pn91 for his great corners and free kicks settings

Looks very impressive. Congrats.
How strict do you do this? With Man U away against C. Palace - you use the away tactic?

bluegunner - it will work great :)

rjp666 - I always play Home tac at home and Away tac away

Mate individual training?

Individual training always same as roles they are playing.
