Hello guys,

I am enjoying the FM 2011 Demo so far and think it has been a good improvement from FM 2010. Anyway i am a pretty noobie at this game especially when it comes to searching for young players/wonderkids. How do you guys search for them, is it a matter of looking round the big teams youth teams (bare in mind I am Man United). Or is it more of a filter/searching type thing?

My second question is I have never really understoof what your chairman means when he suggests concentrating on the youth as we have a great set up, does he mean try and get wonder kids/ good young talents in? Or something else?

Probably the easiest way to search for young talent is to go through national u21 teams. Otherwise, you can use a filtered search - but it will take time and effort to find the good ones. Make sure when you find a possible target, you send your best scout to check him out. You could always download someone elses shortlist - but where is the fun in that? Finding good youngsters is part of the fun in FM IMO.

agreed i was just wondering the ways to find the good ones especially. thanks for the help mate.
 
What i do is have a scout with whose only assignment is to scout for youths. So set his filter to under 18s only. But his attributes must be good when it comes to judging potential
 
I noticed at each club it says youth recruitment, wonder what this might be.

Does he ever pick up the likes of anyone really good though, like a wonderkid?

For e.g. Romelu Lukaku or Neymar etc?

I believe that is to do with when your club takes in new youth players each year. AFAIK, it affects the quality of the youth players you take in.

It is highly unlikely. You are better off scouting yourself and telling your scouts to gather reports on players that look good.
 
Scouts will also filter out players who wouldn't be interested in joining your club. However, keep them shortlisted if they initially don't want to join, you can try again in a season.

I use a few techniques -

1 - Look through u21 national teams. Sort the lists by value, and look at the ones with the highest value.

2 - Search - use the search filter, and put the max age as 18/19/20, and the value at 500k minimum. Pretty much all of the players that come up will be hot talents/wonderkids.

Failing that, you could download FMRTE and search for players with a PA of a 150/160 minimum.

Yeah I noticed that but will have to wait until the full game as the results of this aren't available until the end of the season.
Criticism of previous games was that you hardly ever generate your own wonderkids. Hopefully this will overcome this.

Regarding searching filter above for age and value but click on the status and scroll to wanted and bring up all the wanted players especially at the start of each new year.
That way you can see who other clubs have targeted and they throw up a few gems.
You have to be quick though or the big clubs snap them up.
 
I always go through the Youth Teams of Major Clubs in various countries and National U-21 Teams by myself and I have atleast 3 scouts whose jobs are to find only youth

That would create a list of talented young players, not wonderkids....
 
once i have a short list. I scout the potential wonderkids manually with a scout
 
when the chairman says concentrate on youth it means you have good youth players so use them instead of spending alot of money on other players
