This is the tactic I've been using with Napoli and thus far it's been relatively successful for me. I call it Zona Mista Calibrata because it resembles the Zona Mista offshoot of Catenaccio football, but has been calibrated and symmetrized. The reason for this is that I suspect the traditional lop-sided Zona Mista (such as in this tactic) would be slaughtered by better opponents on FM.
Goalkeeper
Set role as 'Goalkeeper' with 'Defend' duty. There is no need for a sweeper keeper when you have in your team a...
Libero (sweeper)
Set role as 'Libero' with 'Support' duty. This player is one of the distinctive features of Catenaccio football and his role is to act as a super-CB, sweeping up the balls from defence and feeding them to the midfield, whilst being there to make goal-saving interceptions.
Centre-Backs
Set as 'Central Defender' with 'Defend' duty. Not really much need to explain the role of these players.
Wing-Backs
Traditional Zona Mista would only include one Wing-Back on the left side, however Calibrata includes one on either side and these players have the task of covering their entire respective flank, which means tracking back to defend and pushing forwards to support the attack from a wide position. Therefore I set these players as 'Wing Back' with 'Automatic' duty.
Defensive Midfielder
Set as 'Anchor Man' with 'Defend' duty. Destructive player who will win the ball in the air, confront opposition attacks and seek to play the ball short to the more creative midfielders in front of him.
Central Midfielders
Set one as 'Box-to-Box Midfielder' with 'Support' duty and one as 'Attacking Playmaker' with 'Attack' duty. Again, two players who featured in old-style Catenaccio and they constitute the cliched 'engine room' of the team. The box-to-box midfielder has a similar role to the wing-backs (both pushing forward and tracking back), albeit in a central position. The attacking playmaker does what it says on the tin.
Forwards
Traditional Zona Mista would have one second forward and one striker, however I would say the role of forwards is something that should be adjusted based on whom you want to play there. When I'm playing Quagliarella and Pavlyuchenko, I play Pav as deep-lying and Quag as advanced, but when Lavezzi is playing, I set him as a poacher. Calibrata does make use of the counter-attack so I'd advise quick, powerful forwards if you want to use this tactic.
The strategy is fairly rigid and this is ultimately quite a defensive tactic, however there is flexibility with the passing style (I prefer 'Default' so that boring short passing football is avoided and likewise pointless hoofing from defence). 'Default' as well with tackling so as to avoid constant bookings. The rest are self-explanatory.
You can download this tactic here. Feedback/questions would be appreciated.
