I'd prefer not to spend (much) more than 20-25mil since I pretty much need a whole new defence line. I want an attacking player in the mould of Alves or Marcelo. Complete wing back attack or wing back attack role. Mendy is too expensive(67mil :o), Grimaldo doesn't want to join.
I bought Gago for less than 4M first season IIRC but that was in 16.1 patch. I guess it's different now.

1. You have both of your CBs on cover, this is bad. There's probably a huge gap between the defense and midfield which might well be the reason you're getting hammered.
2. Do your DWs have high workrate and determination ?
Xabi Alonso is a DLP - def at Madrid. Is he being wasted ?
No matter what formation or type of football you want to play you absolutely need a holding midfielder if you don't want to concede a lot. And DLP - def is possibly the most ambitious of the holding roles. What's more it also should...
But... What about using the "WB's" in MC positions ? Bielsa likes to mix the roles, usually he used one direct runner (Isla) and an all-rounder(Vidal) so one of the MCs would be "central midfielder-attack" and the other Box to box. In defence they would man mark the opposition wide mids/wingers...
What did you change ? The BWM to defend duty ? That still isn't a holding mid. Central midfielder - defend or deep lying playmaker - defend is the way to go. That should help defensively
