New Liverpool manager Željko Buvač has today told the Echo exclusively his five year plan for the club under his leadership. The role reversal of Buvac and Klopp stunned the footballing world yesterday however it is business as usual at Melwood as the team prepares for the new season.
By 2021, the manager aims to have:
- Won the Premier League twice
- Won the Champions League
- Won at least 2 pieces of domestic silverware
- And established Marko Grujic as one of the biggest names in England.
Speaking of his last, unorthodox target, Buvac said, "Being Serbian myself, I know Marko very well and I was massively involved in bringing him to Liverpool. I know of his talent, his potential and his promise and whilst he may not be ready for one or two years, I will make him ready one day."
On his style of play, the manager was perhaps unsurprisingly reflective of predocessor Klopp. "Of course, working with Klopp for so many years now, we have a lot of the same views. Otherwise I'm not sure we'd still be together! We need only players that are hungry, determined to play for Liverpool. I favour a 4-2-3-1 formation however of course as a manager you have to adapt. But I think it is important that every player works for the formation, and not for the formation to work for one player."
The Serbian was understandably quiet on the transfer front however he did hint at Mario Balotelli's future. "I don't think it is a necessity to buy a striker this summer. In Sturridge, Origi, Ings and Benteke we have a great mixture and spread of talent and ability."
