Manchester United Football Club is based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, and plays in the Premier League. Founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, the club changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to Old Trafford in 1910.

In 1968, under the management of Matt Busby, Manchester United was the first English football club to win the European Cup, ten years after the Munich air disaster that claimed the lives of eight players. The current manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, is the most successful manager in English football history, having won 27 major honours since he took over in November 1986.

Manchester United is the most successful club in English football, having won a record 19 league titles, a record 11 FA Cups and four League Cups. The club has also won three European Cups and has twice been club world champions, in 1999 and 2008.

Manchester United is one of the wealthiest and most widely supported football teams in the world. The club is said to be worth £1.13 billion, making it the world's most valuable football club. After being floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1991, the club was purchased by Malcolm Glazer in May 2005 in a deal valuing the club at almost £800 million.

RIVALRIES.jpg

Manchester United has rivalries with three clubs: Leeds United, Liverpool, and Manchester City, against whom they contest the Manchester derby.

The rivalry with Liverpool is rooted in competition between the cities during the Industrial Revolution when Manchester was famous for its textile industry while Liverpool was a major port.

The "Roses Rivalry" with Leeds stems from the Wars of the Roses, fought between the House of Lancaster and the House of York, with Manchester United representing Lancashire and Leeds representing Yorkshire.

More recently, United have established smaller rivalries with Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona, after the constant competition between these clubs for titles.

Honours.jpg

Manchester United's first trophy was the Manchester Cup, which it won as Newton Heath LYR in 1886. In 1908, the club won its first league title, and won the FA Cup for the first time the following year. Manchester United won the most trophies in the 1990s; five league titles, four FA Cups, one League Cup, five Charity Shields (one shared), one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and one Intercontinental Cup.

The club currently holds the record for most top-division titles (20), the most FA Cups (11), and the most FA Cup Final appearances (Manchester United holds the record for the most Premier League titles (13), and was the first English team to win the European Cup in 1968. The club's most recent trophy came in April 2013 with the 2012–13 Premier League title.

The only major honour that Manchester United has never won is the UEFA Europa League,[195] although the team reached the quarter-finals in 1984–85 and the semi-finals of the competition's precursor tournament, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, in 1964–65.

OFFICIAL: UNITED SIGN VLAAR

Manchester United is delighted to announce that Ron has signed a deal with Manchester United. Ron joins on a three-year contract after becoming a free-agent during since the expiration of his previous Aston Villa contract.

Vlaar, 29, had been linked with a host of large clubs last season after his outstanding performance at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil; however the Dutch international stayed on with Aston Villa to produce yet another astonishing season. Hailed as one of the toughest defenders in the Premier League over the past three seasons, it is no surprise that a move to a major club has come to fruition.

United have lacked defensive solidarity over the past two seasons, and will no doubt be delighted that a proven performer and leader has joined on a free deal.

"He's a fantastic addition to the squad", Manchester United manager Scott Bateson told SkySports, before adding, "He is a true leader and has such vast experience in the game. Ron has always been a player I have admired and his no-nonsense attitude and defensive toughness is exactly in-line with my
philosophy that I want to convey at the club.

Vlaar will join up with his new team mates tomorrow when they set off on their Middle-East training camp.

DUO JOIN RED DEVILS

Manchester United have wasted no time in the newly opened transfer window with a further two additions to their already improved squad from last season. The Red Devils have officially announced that Christian Benteke and Bryan Oviedo are now United players.

With the departure of Robin Van Persie to Fenerbahce last week, United have decided to not take their time in the search for a new deadly front man; and the Dutchmans replacement is that in the form of Christian Benteke; a 23 million pound signing from fellow Premier League side Aston Villa. It is thought that Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj both played their parts in convincing their national team compatriot to come to Old Trafford - much to the delight of the United fans.

Meanwhile United have also snapped up Everton's Bryan Oviedo for just 5 million pounds. The Costa Rican left-back, who is equally adept at playing as a left-sided midfielder, is thought to have been signed to provide stiff competition to Luke Shaw after the 19 year old had a less than ideal debut season with Manchester United.

Was planning to start a story with Manchester United a few days ago once some of the new signing were confirmed. I'm glad I didn't because there is know way I could have gone into as much detail as you. Keep it up!

Loving the detail. Looking forward to the journey to success. Best of luck.
Didn't see Depay in the squad list.

If you 've waited I little more longer maybe Lewandofski would be on your squad (fingers crossed ) !!!

NEW GAFFER "DELIGHTED" WITH PERFORMANCE

Manchester United manager Scott Bateson was "absolutely delighted" by new signing Christian Benteke's debut; with the Belgian firing home a brace in the 11-0 rout over Chester Nomads.

"It was a fantastic all-round performance from the boys. They did exactly what we spoke about - quality passing, possession and ultimately putting a lot of goals in the net," the manager stated to the media.

Bateson was most complimentary to new striker Benteke as well as Angel Di Maria, who had an outstanding match playing in the centre of midfield. Evans to Force Old Trafford Exit

Latest reports have surface tonight that Manchester United defender Johnny Evans is forcing an early exit from the club after the signing of Ron Vlaar. The Irish centre back, who has had a mixed time during his Old Trafford stay, is reportedly not prepared to stay on after being told his game time will be reduced this season.

Manchester United have lacked a world class central defence pairing since the days of Vidic and Ferdinand, and new manager Scott Bateson is believed to be wanting to add to his acquisition of Ron Vlaar with the further signature of Valencia centre back Nicolas Otamendi.

If reports are to be believed, Evans will furthermore find game time limited in United's push for a 21st title; therefore the 26 year old is wanting to force and transfer to a fellow Premier League club and it is believed Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and West Ham are all after his signature.
