A Ledley King Story

KING TEMPTED BY MANAGEMENT

images

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Ledley King has set his sights on becoming a top manager, as he begins working towards his UEFA 'B' licence at the clubs brand new state of the art training centre.

After more than 300 appearances at the top level and 21 senior England caps, a serious knee problem forced King to retire from playing last summer, but he remains closely involved with Tottenham as an ambassador, and is occasionally working alongside Tim Sherwood, the club's head of development, as he finalises his latest coaching qualification.

" I have spoken to some former players, and they mentioned they'd found it difficult to get the opportunities they thought their CV's and talent deserved, " said King, who despite his playing potential knows, like most newly retired players he is likely to have to start his managerial career lower down the leagues and possibly in another country too.

King has enjoyed working with the younger players at Spurs enough, that a career in coaching might lie ahead. But the 32-year-old stresses that he remains at the bottom of the ladder and hopes to get more experience working alongside the array of top quality coaches at the club where he grew up.

Asked whether he had a job for life at Tottenham, the former centre-back joked: " Until I get the manager's job and I get sacked! "

He continued: " It's a long process, but these are the steps I have to take if I have aspirations of becoming a top manager. At the moment I'm lucky that I'm at a massive club, who have just moved into this fantastic training centre and if I can continue working with the youngsters here and help with their football education, it will give me a great foundation to help me with my first non-playing role. "

It remains to be seen if their is a chairman out there in England or in one of Europe's many leagues willing to take a risk and offer Ledley the role he is working towards. But if his management skills are like his playing talent and commitment, then we could maybe see the start of a very promising new coach, testing his abilities against some of the worlds great managers in the near future.

Hi Guys, it's me again!! Due to some Steam and old laptop issues, I had to stop my Teddy Sheringham save/story, as I couldn't transfer the save onto my new laptop(I'm very poor with computers, lol). But after some careful planning and thought, I've decided to do another story and one that I'm confident of becoming a long term save/story. I have again gone down the road of using an ex-player to base my story on(again, thanks to Ze Carlos and AldoKemp-1, who's original story ideas gave me the thinking behind this, so thanks to both of them). I know Hume 7, had started a Ledley King story, but after chatting with him, he has saved over his game and due to time restrictions, won't be carrying his story on, so thanks to Hume 7 also.
Right, I chose Ledley King because being a Spurs season ticket holder(sorry, blame my dad) I had the pleasure of seeing Ledley in his prime and was gutted when he had to retire, so as I know he is currently coaching around the youth teams there and has potential thoughts of getting into management, I thought I'd use him as my character for my new story.
I have loaded up the English, French, German, Dutch and Spanish leagues, so Ledley could manage anywhere in those countries during his career and hopefully have a successful and enjoyabale journey. I'm using the latest official update database(13.3.3) and have set Ledley's experience as professional footballer and he will start unemployed.
Finally, I'm not one for cheating, as I want this to be a very memorable and near realistic story as I can make it. So I hope you all enjoy my new story and will follow, comment and like as much as possible.
Thanks for taking the time out to read the opening chapter, next update will be later. :D

KING GAINS UEFA PRO LICENCE

images

Ledley King today passed his final coaching qualification, when he was awarded the UEFA Pro Licence, after successfully completing the Level 5 course at St George's Park.

King, who only recently passed his UEFA 'B' award, has been fast tracked through the remaining levels, to allow him to begin his search for his first managerial job. The 32-year-old Ex-Tottenham Hotspur captain was given special dispensations to allow him to complete the course, as English coaching attempts to catch up with the rest of Europe.

" I'm very priviledged that the FA allowed me to fast track my way through my coaching badges. And with
the start of the new football season approaching, it will allow me to compete on an even level with the other
managers looking for work.
I'm open to offers and am willing to talk to any interested club that can match my ambitions. "

Now that the former centre back has the required coaching badges to begin his managerial career, his name is starting to be linked with various clubs such as NPower League 1 side Swindon, who currently have a managerial vacancy or King may decide to bide his time and wait for a suitable offer after the season begins.

NOTTS COUNTY APPOINT KING!

images

Following the sacking of Chris Kiwomya, Notts County chairman Ray Trew has acted swiftly to fill the vacant managerial post by appointing former Tottenham and England centre back Ledley King.

Last night's disappointing 2 - 1 loss to fellow strugglers Preston North End was the final act for Kiwomya, who had only been in charge for 5 months. And with 'The Magpies' sitting in 21st place in the Npower League 1, the Notts County board have decided a fresh new approach is required to stop the club being embroiled in a relegation battle at the end of the season.
Trew, a business man from Lincolnshire, is confident that 32-year-old King is the right man for the job.

" After meeting with Ledley and discussing his ideas and approach to management, it was clear to the board
that he was the stand out candidate for the job. And if he can bring the passion and desire he played with on
the pitch to the current squad, I'm very confident we will avoid a relegation scrap in April next year
. "

With Notts County entering their 150th year since being founded in 1862, the pressure will be on King to continue the proud footballing traditions this great club were once used too.

KING: I'LL BRING BACK GLORY DAYS!

images

Newly appointed Notts County manager Ledley King, was presented to the media this morning after putting pen to paper on a 1 year contract.

Despite this being his first managerial role, King was very upbeat and confident about the clubs future, as he was introduced to the waiting journalists, who had gathered inside Meadow Lane for the unveiling of Notts County's new manager.

REPORTER: " Welcome to Meadow Lane, Ledley.
How are u feeling about your first steps into management? "

LEDLEY: " I'm looking forward to the challenge and with the experience I've gained
at Tottenham, working with some very talented coaches, I hope I can use the knowledge I've
gathered and start to install the winning mentality this club has been used too in the past. "

REPORTER: " It hasn't been a great start to the season for 'The Magpies' so far.
What are the boards expectations for the remainder of the campaign?
"

LEDLEY: " I'm only concerning myself with what we do from the present day. The previous
manager had his own ideas and for whatever reason they didn't work. The board are expecting us
to achieve a respectable mid-table position and with just over half the season left, I'm confident we
can meet the expectations required. "

REPORTER: " What players will be key to the club achieving those aims? "

LEDLEY: " Although I haven't had much chance to see the players yet, I have seen some clips
from their last few games and a couple of players will be very important to the team. Our
star player is midfielder Alan Judge, who will be a player I'll be building the team around and
has the capablities to play at a higher level, so I hope I can show him that he can achieve that here. Jeff
Hughes is another important player and I expect him to play a vital role in centre midfield alongside Judge.
Lastly, is left back Alan Sheehan, another player who could potentially play at a higher level, he is our
set piece specialist, so I hope he can provide us with some important goals.

REPORTER: " What are your thoughts on thebackroom staff currently here? "

LEDLEY: " I will sit down with them and chat through our ideas, before making a final decision. I am
keen on bringing in a couple of ex-players who are interested to get a taste of coaching, but I won't be
giving away any names today, sorry. "

REPORTER: " What is the style of play you are looking to introduce to the team? "

LEDLEY: " I'm looking at using a 433 formation, which I've learnt alot about the roles and responsibilities
of the players in this system, due to speaking with Andre Villas-Boas at Spurs and also I will be looking at
a 4141 formation, when we need to play abit more cautiously. "

RAY TREW: " Okay everyone, that will end the press conference. Ledley will head to the pitch
now for a quick photo shoot with the club shirt and scarf. Thank you for your time. "

Hi Guys, As you will see I've made a change in the team I was going to manage, I just wasn't getting the excitement of managing in Portugal, so I decided to start with Ledley unemployed and got offered the Notts County job and I'm buzzing to start his career with them. I hope you will enjoy his journey and I will start the updates tomorrow, when I get back from coaching.

Thanks, :)

told you you change clubs more than tiger lol

Haha, yeah. Disappointed I rushed into it before, but very happy with how it's worked out now, since starting unemployed and waiting for a job offer. (H)

KING MAKES MAJOR CHANGES TO HIS STAFF!

images

Ledley King has wasted little time in over hauling his backroom staff, having only been in charge at Notts County for two days, King has released three former employees and brought in four new staff as he reshapes his coaching team.

After releasing Lee Broster as his Assistant Manager, King immediately brought in former Blackburn Rovers number two Ashley Westwood(pictured above), as the man to fill the vacant position.
With Brett Adams and Chris Lyons also shown the door, the new Manager has replaced them with Nigel Winterburn, who will be joining as defensive coach, ex Sheffield United Assistant Alan Cork has been brought in to work with the attackers and probably the shrewdest move Ledley King has made is the appointment of Graham Barrow, who has been released by Premier League side Wigan and will bring a wealth of experience to the rookie Manager's new look backroom team.

All eyes will be on King this week, when he makes his managerial debut at Meadow Lane against Crewe, before another home game just three days later, again at home versus fellow strugglers MK Dons.

KING UP AND RUNNING!

images

Ledley King got his managerial career off to the best start this afternoon with a fine 2 - 1 comeback win over Crewe at Meadow Lane, courtesy of goals by Enoch Showunmi and Francois Zoko.

The new manager was presented to the home support just before kick off and received a positive welcome from the crowd of just under 5000.
Despite the warm reception and buzz around the ground, Crewe were determined to ruin the script and after 11 minutes, defender Harry Davis tapped home his first goal of the season. The visitors won a corner on the left, which was swung into the six yard box, Bartosz Bialkowski, the County keeper, failed to hold the cross and Davis was on hand to open the scoring.
With the hosts losing, King kept his calm, as he continued to cover every inch of grass inside the technical area and with 42 minutes on the clock, the home side equalised, when forward Enoch Showunmi bundled home a close range effort, after good work on the left by inside forward Francois Zoko.
As the first half entered the one minute of injury time shown by the fourth official, Notts County deservedly took the lead and it was Ivory Coast forward Zoko, who showed a glimpse of his potential. He picked the ball up out wide on the left touchline and drove forward beating two men, before shifting the ball onto to his right foot and drilled his shot passed the outstretched Crewe goalkeeper, to send King and his backroom staff delirious as the bench erupted with delight.
Despite an exciting end to the first half, the second half failed to live upto the excitement, as Notts County saw the game out, by keeping possession and limiting their opponents to very few shots on goal, to ensure King made a winning start to his career as manager.

COUNTY ON THE RISE

images

Notts County made it back to back wins this evening, as they beat fellow strugglers MK Dons 1 - 0 at Meadow Lane in front of 4,692 spectators.

Notts were boosted by the return of midfielders Gary Liddle and Neal Bishop, who both missed the weekend victory over Crewe, due to suspension. Liddle was drafted into the starting eleven, replacing on-loan Chelsea youngster George Saville, while Bishop has to settle for a place on the bench, as Ledley King kept faith with the other ten players.

'The Magpies' started the brighter of the two sides and were fully rewarded in the 16th minute with a cheeky finish from striker Enoch Showunmi, who grabbed his second in as many matches. Jamal Campbell-Ryce beat the Mk Dons full back and crossed from the byline, and as the opposition keeper was coming to collect the cross, Showunmi beat him to it and headed the ball into the empty net to send the home crowd wild.

Into the second half and the hosts started the brightly, as they seem to be growing in more confidence under the new management team. Five minutes in and Francois Zoko went close to doubling the lead, but his fierce right footed effort flashed past the post. MK Dons were more interested in committing fouls, rather than play the passing football they have been recognised for in recent seasons, which suited Notts County, as the game was continuously being stopped for numerous fouls.
With time running out, King brought on young prospect Tyrell Waite for his league debut, much to the delight of his family and friends watching on from the stands.

Ledley: " I couldn't ask for a better start from the lads. They have been excellent in training over the past few days and have responded to the new ideas and styles we are slowly introducing. We can't allow ourselves to get too carried away, as we have an important and busy month coming up, but if we can put a good run together we will pull ourselves further away from the drop zone. "
