🔄 Match Management & The Golden Rules​

hey buddy,

Since I primarily test and play with lower league underdogs (like taking AFC Telford through the ranks), my approach to player attributes is tailored around finding hidden gems, free transfers, and players with expired contracts who don't require a work permit.

For a high-intensity tactic like this to work in lower divisions, I filter my player search using a baseline requirement for all positions before diving into role-specific attributes:

💡 Progression Tip: Keep in mind that 11 is the perfect magic number to aim for when you are grinding through the lowest tiers. As you win promotions and move up to higher leagues, you should gradually raise these minimum attribute thresholds (e.g., aiming for 13+ in the tier above, and 15+ when you reach the top flight) to match the quality of better opposition.


Once a player checks those four baseline boxes, here are the primary role-specific attributes I look for by position:

Goalkeeper (SK)​

Because we use a high line and intense press, your keeper acts as a safety net.

  • Key Attributes: Agility, Reflexes, One on Ones, and Rushing Out.

Central Defenders (OCB / BCB)​

With no striker ahead of them, our center-backs need to clean up long-ball counters and hold the line.

  • Key Attributes: Positioning, Tackling, Concentration, and Jumping Reach/Heading (essential to survive lower league route-one football).

Wing Backs / Full Backs (AWB / WB)​

These guys run the entire length of the pitch, acting as both secondary wingers and defensive covers.

  • Key Attributes: Acceleration, Stamina, Positioning, and Crossing.

Defensive Midfielders (DM / CHM / AP)​

The engine room. They need to protect the backline and instantly transition the ball to the attacking trio.

  • Key Attributes: Passing, Composure, Decisions, and Anticipation.

Shadow Striker & Wingers (SS / IF / W)​

The main goal scoring and chance creation threat in a strikerless system. They need to exploit the spaces created by lack of a traditional forward.

  • Key Attributes: Acceleration, Dribbling, Off the Ball (vital for a strikerless tactic), and Finishing.

I don't get it.
 
The tactic works well. It seems the only successful tactics at this state, are based on ugly football like this. 5 months and we can finally leave this POS behind.
