I've been using this tactic for the last 2 seasons on my Swindon Town save, they have no wingers in the squad and 3 fantastic Central Midfielders (Luongo, Kasim & Reeves) so this tactic was perfect. They also have no money to spend so buying wingers and using another tactic wasn't really an option!
1st Season - Board Expectation was mid-table finish, I won the league on the last day - although i was about 8 points clear with 3 or 4 games to go but the pressure got to players so morale was low and lost all the games except for the last one!
I also managed to reach the 6th round of FA Cup knocking out Everton in the 5th round along with some championship teams in the earlier rounds.

Because of the lack of funding Swindon have i spent the 2nd half of the 1st season scouting players who's contracts were due to end that summer so i could snap them up on a free. But also at the same time try and increase the number of players who naturally fit the relevant roles (False 9, Limited Defender etc).
2nd Season so far - Board Expectations were to battle relegation, currently sitting top of the table 8 points clear. I think i've been offered a new contract twice this season already and each time i've increased the board expectation, 1st time round to a mid table finish and most recently to win promotion.

Overall I've found this tactic to be really good and helped me massively over achieve, i think the core players Swindon already have in there squad (GK - Foderingham, CB - Stephens (Loan), WB's - Jones (loan) & Thompson, DM/CM - Reeves, Luongo, Kasim and SC - Obika) who are all stars for that league in real life and in the game have probably helped.
Potential room for improvement:
Away Form - Of my 7 loses this season, 6 of these have been away from home. I don't tend to change team mentality until during the game if i'm winning a tight match and its 60 mins+ gone. Should i be looking to change this pre-game when playing away?
Lack of draws - I've only had 1 draw this season so far! Possibly linked to the above, it's not as if i'm snatching wins late in the game either (i think i had 1 maybe 2 late goals which have won me games)
Shots to Shots on Target ratio - This is incredibly poor, I'm probably averaging 15-25 shots a game, but only getting 5-9 of these on target. It's very rare if i get as much as 50% of my shots on target. I believe someone else has already mentioned this in this thread but apparently its a bug/quirk with the game!?
Being overrun in midfield - Every game my Assistant Manager will advise that we're being overrun in midfield - is this to be expected?
Defending free kicks - The 2 defenders on the same post seems to be an absolute waste as i think i'm conceding 80-90% of all the free kicks i've had against me. They seem to be getting scored in the center of the goal or the wall side.
