Much like the Bundesliga, Liga BBVA and Football League threads, there is a Ligue 1 thread for the 2011-12 season that will commence in France on 6th August 2011 and end on the 20th May the following year.

Lille OSC are the defending Ligue 1 champions, while Evian TGFC, Dijon FCO and AC Ajaccio start the season as the newly-promoted teams. AS Monaco, RC Lens and Arles-Avignon were relegated last year and they will start the Ligue 2 season with intentions of making a bounce-back into the French top-flight.

As Ligue is, at times, very under-rated due to the much bigger leagues in Serie A, the Premier League and La Liga taking all of the plaudits because of the teams that they behold, this thread should hopefully mute that and advertise the talent, drama and excitement that is overseen in French football.

What Calum said.

I expect PSG domination right from the start. Too bad they didn't qualify for the CL, partly because I would have liked to see Nenê there before he loses his touch (he's getting a bit on the older side) and partly because they could have mounted a good challenge.

PSG seem to be the only team improving their squad. Lyon are rebuilding and need a few years. Lille could lose Hazard who was one of the major factors behind their triumph last year.
Could be a one horse race this year :(

PSG won't "walk it". They'll struggle for a bit and then turn on the style, with Nene and Co.

I want them to win the league and start making themselves heard with OL and OM.

post a poll asking who will win the league like i did in the seria a thread !

Parlez-Vous Français?

That's all my french right there. Well, back on topic. I have a feeling PSG will not win this season, with OM snatching it and OL coming third, behind PSG.

i know Lyon will prove themseleves champions again, but i expect challenges from Marseilles, defending champs Lille and money rich PSG.

Go Les Gones.

PSG are not good enough, in my opinion anyway, to win the league. They have just signed around 4-5 players and may sign another in Javier Pastore. An exciting prospect, but it will take a while for the club to reach the heights of Lyon and Marseille. They may surpass Lille with the exit of Gervinho and the possible departure of Eden Hazard but it will take a year or three.

I am, on the contrary, very excited by the signings of Jeremy Menez, Mohamed Sissoko and Salvatore Sirigu. Wish it was more domestically biased albeit.

Marseille have always been my preferred team, so would like them to win the league.

PSG has the best team in the league...

dude they might win the french cup or something and maybe runners up in the Table, but OL and OM have always been contenders to the Title.

might be like man city lats season, first major trophy is the Fa Cup.

Except Man City aren't a clearly better team than their competitors on paper. PSG might not dominate, but they're definitely favourites.

They don't. Lyon and Marseille's squads are far more talented. PSG's defence and midfield are far off those in OL and OM.

Of course they are favourites. They are favourites for the reason that they have strengthened their squad and their performances last year. They will not win the league, but what I am saying is that it will take time to knock OL and OM off the top spots and make a real claim. Something they have not done for a very long time. So much for the last decade or so I believe when the likes of Pauleta and Ronaldinho graced the team.

Oh, what Lille just do then?

You're missing the point; Lille are doing the same, granted, but this is about Paris Saint-Germain and their chances of successes within the presence and future.

We're not talking about Lille and their future, but PSG's and how they are building for success.

Neither am I talking about Lille. I gave them as an example of why your point just simply isn't true. They can very well beat them without spending years at the top. If Lille could, they can too.
